HA! I'm amused that Frodo's dad is called Drogo. Now I'm just imagining him as the Game of Thrones character, and he seems very out of place in Hobbiton. :)

I've not started yet but I'm already half way through the first book so when I get up to date with my other books I'll start this one. Never know when that'll be haha.

I once read (forgot where was I read it) that George RR Martin is Tolkien fan, maybe that's why he named one of his character from The Hobbit :)

Have you read The Horse and His Boy from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis? If you pay attention reading LOTR, especially The Fellowship of the Ring, you'll find the same case in it :D But it's because C.S Lewis was Tolkien's lifetime friend.

I heard from my friend that C.S Lewis and Tolkien both challenged each other to write a story about a ring. I hope that's true because that's pretty cool. :)

Anyway I'm going to try and read another chapter tonight. Has anyone else started?

Your friend was right Martha. C.S Lewis and Tolkien have a book club called Inkling, if I'm not wrong, along with other friends they wrote stories and gave feed back to each other. I think it's like beta friend now :D

I haven't started it yet, I'll try to read it tomorrow. How far are you now?

I've already started, but I've only read a little bit. I'm reading it in french though so Drogo is actually called Drogon because of the traduction and now I just picture him as Dany's dragon hahaha

I haven't read anymore yet. Just finished chapter one. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it, but I really liked the set-up of that first chapter. :)

I've read Narnia! (I love it) I knew that Tolkien and C.S Lewis were friends, but I didn't know that the books had something in common.

Why you wasn't sure if you'd enjoy it? Might it be because of the description? when I first read it, I was so overwhelm by the description, it's so detail I was sometimes bored and had a headache because I have to read all about things in the story, including the simple thing like a mushroom and its story :D But just like you, I love the world building and all and in the end I love with all of it :D
