Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien - Restarting August 15th 2019
crap i have a buddy read at this time. I really wanna read these though. I will try to squeeze it in!
@Tayla I am flexible. Not much going on in March yet for me. As long as the other girls are okay with it. What dates suit you better. :))
I'll be reading a chapter a day haha. I'm already on Chapter 3 of Book 2, which is still in The Fellowship of the Ring. It's just confusing haha. I'm on page 273 of 1031, so I think I'll just go with 1 chapter a day until I finish the series.
This is my one of favorite books of all time :D and it's been a while since I read it. I might join you guys.
@Rachmi Please do. Its one of those books that i have been meaning to read for like ever and never have.
I think The Lord of The Rings is darker and more complicated that The Hobbit but I love them both. I also want to read The Silmarillion (the prequel of The Hobbit) this year. I really want to read it for forever but never have a gut to do it because it hasn't translated yet into my own language. I'm afraid it will be hard for me to understand it because of the complexity of its worldbuilding (as some of my friends who have already read it said) but then, I can never read it if I keep waiting for the translation version :D
Rachel wrote: "Have you started already?? Okay. That's fine. I won't be reading on a schedule this time. :))"
I started reading like a year ago but know the story well so I'm not going to restart. It's too complicated XD
I've read the Hobbit once. Thought it was good.

@Tris Should you read The Hobbit first?? I haven't read it before and, truthfully, haven't the slightest idea what the books are even about.@Rachmi There is a prequel to the prequel?? That's confusing!! Oh, that's not fair. What language do you speak?? Maybe there might be an online translation??
@Maddie That's a good idea. I still haven't read the Hobbit yet.
@Rachel: The Hobbit was good. Funny how I was gonna bring up the movie but I just can't be bothered.
Yes, The Silmarillion is the prequel of the prequel. Some said it's more, like, much more complicated than both LOTR and The Hobbit. It mostly tells about the elves and how Eru (the God) created middle-earth. JRR Tolkien spent his whole life created this book but it published posthumously by his son, Christopher Tolkien. I think you can read LOTR even when you haven't read The Hobbit yet. I read LOTR first and then The Hobbit and can still enjoyed it and loved it.
Have you watched both LOTR and The Hobbit movie? It can give you the idea what those are about, though there were many different things from the books.
@Rachmi: Wow I wouldn't be able to get through that. I can hardly get through LoTR! Yeah so did I with the Hobbit. I read LoTR first.
Yeah I've seen the LoTR movies, but need to watch the latest Hobbit movie.
Yeah I've seen the LoTR movies, but need to watch the latest Hobbit movie.
@Maddie I really need to read it. I haven't seen the movie either though the 2nd one is coming out soon.@Rachmi Gosh, that does sound complicated! His whole life dedicated to one long series! And writing a prequel to your prequel?? That's dedication right there!
Okay. Thanks. Having a little panic that I was going to be in the dark! Since we are going to read this in March, I might see if I can get someone to buddy read The Hobbit with me first! Nah, I haven't seen either. I am one of those people that refuse to see a movie if I haven't read the book because then I'll be picturing the actors as the characters and what if the mucked up the casting?? Stuff like that so I was waiting to read the books. :))
I speak Indonesian (Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia countries). There is google translation but I can't do that, otherwise it will be more confusing because it translates word by word and it won't end well. I will end up have a headache if I use it :DActually one of major publisher here has already had the right to translate it but they haven't published it yet. I asked them about it since before Harry Potter #5 released. Can you imagine it? It was what...10 years ago?
@Rachmi Nice. That's pretty cool. Ahaha, yeah I know about Indonesia! I have friends that have moved here from there. Always wanted to speak another language. At the moment I am learning German at school so I speak a little. Yeah, Google translator is pretty rubbish isn't it. So in accurate but it kind of funny to see how off it is. :))Wow, that's a long time! So not fair! Maybe you should contact the original publishers or something!
I know right? I think I made them bored with my email and stuff because I kept asking them. The latest news they gave me was they will publish it after The Hobbit movie. I don't know which The Hobbit movies they meant because I don't see the book anywhere, not even at their website. Gosh...how irritating, isn't it? @ Rachel, Yes, the result from Google translator is kind of funny. I often laugh at their translation instead of understand what they mean :D My sister learning German too and when she speaks there is no one at home who understands her. I think she can curse us without we realize it, hehehe. Don't get me wrong but I'm kind of surprised you know about Indonesia. Most of my friends here in GR don't know where it is :)
@Rachmi That is really bad! Maybe the mean after the last Hobbit movie?? I don't know why that would matter though. Ahaha, you should keep pestering them. Is there any online shops like Amazon or Book Depository that stocks a translation??I know its kind of hilarious when it gets it really, really wrong. Like if you were type in "watch" it would put the word in for like an actual wristwatch and not the verb like seeing something! Ahaha, that's always an advantage of speaking a language no one else understand: you can say whatever you want and they wont even know!
What!? That is so weird. How can you not know! That's is terribly ignorant of them!
@Hannelore Awesome! We are reading The Fellowship of the Ring The Two Towers and The Return of the King, in that order. If you want to read The Hobbit though, I am looking for a buddy! :))
@Rachel, I don't know how come they don't know about Indonesia. I was wondering does Indonesia come from nowhere? my friend once said to me that she really wants to go to Bali and I was like "you don't know where Indonesia is but you want to go to Bali?" and she only said "yeah...what Indonesia have anything to do with Bali?" I was speechless! and when I told her that Bali is one of Indonesian province she asked me whether I'm serious!That's exactly what I meant with Google translator, we can't rely on them. I prefer my dictionary and translate it by myself :D
I think you're right, maybe I should keep asking the publisher. I wonder why they need more than 10 years to translate it?
@Maddison, so sorry I didn't realize your message about The Silmarillion. I was at office so kind of juggling between works and GR, hahaha.If you want to read The Silmarillion, I would love to buddy read it with you. But I'm sure I will need more time to finish it than when I read another books :)
What do you think of the movies, though?
@Rachel, I admired you can refuse watch the movie when you haven't read the book yet. I can't never do that :)
I would love to join! I've started the book like a year ago and I just can finish it, I haven't even reached the middle...Maybe this time I'll finally finish it! :)
@Rachmi Are you series?? Wow, like how can you not know that! I'm speechless! Maybe because I live close to Indonesia I know a little more about it but seriously, that so bad that they don't know that!Yeah. Same!
You definitely should. Maybe you should like make a petition or something and send it in! I'll sign it for you. Ten years is definitely long enough!
Ahaha, I am a pretty stubborn person when I want to be. I just don't like to get the book spoiled because I know that I next to always enjoy the book more.
@Ines + Shavony Yayy!
I may be able to join you guys! I have a buddy read on this date already, but I may join, because this book has been sitting on my shelf for FOREVER!!

I don't actually want to read The Silmarillion, sorry. Too much work. XD

@Rachel, I guess you're from Australia or New Zealand, right? My friend who doesn't know about Bali and Indonesia is from somewhere else. She makes me wondering, though, whether she ever studies about other countries :D Have you ever read Double Clutch by Liz Reinhardt? friends of the female main character there don't know what and where Denmark is. It's just I guess you are right, sometimes there are a lot of people being ignorant.I really want to read Ender's game first but then I can't resist to watch the movie. I don't think I can ever resist to not watch before read the way you do :)
I asked my friend who is a translator for that big publisher that has a right for The Silmarillion about the release. She said the publisher has to buy another right because apparently it has already out of time. So this is the second time they have its right. She's sure they will translate and publish it, but don't know when. I don't think make a petition will make any different because fantasy isn't popular genre here. And most people don't care about it.
@Maddison, yes reading The Silmarillion will be too much work but I'm determine :D I join Indonesian Tolkien Society, most of my friends there have already read it and they make me want to read it, though it will need determination and works to do it :)

@Rachmi: I'm from New Zealand. :D
@Rachmi: I'm from New Zealand. :D
@Rachmi Australia. <3 Wow, nah I haven't read that book but how can you not know this sort of stuff. Its just ignorance really. I mean I get maybe not knowing the tiny little one-km2 countries in Africa or Tajikistan and all the other -stan countries but Denmark? Indoensia?? These are common countries. People are simply ignorant.Ahaha! Well, I won't read that book/see that movie too but then I heard that movie is only 30% like the book so I am making myself read it first too. :))
Oh, yeah I guess that would be expensive too. Really?? Want sort of books do they read then?? And I am sure lots of GR people would sign it for you if it you wanted.
@Tori Pls join us! They have been sitting on my shelf for awhile now too and I really need to read them.
@Maddison, what does it feel to live in New Zealand? :D Peter Jackson made me want, like, really want to go to your country. It's so beautiful! though I have to say that my country is also beautiful and I haven't visited most of them, lol
@Rachmi: Yeah I love New Zealand. I don't want to move when I grow up. It's so beautiful and green and home to great movies. :)

Frodo Baggins knew the Ringwraiths were searching for him - and the Ring of Power he bore that would enable Sauron to destroy all that was good in Middle-earth. Now it was up to Frodo and his faithful servant Sam to carry the Ring to where it could be detroyed - in the very centre of Sauron's dark kingdom.
