I thought this was pretty good. I guess now we know how Molly got her apartment. We also learn a bit more about the Fomor, which look to be the new bad guys on the block even if Harry hasn't dealt with them much.

I like getting a different POV than Harry too. Like the Murphy story from Side Jobs or Thomas in Backup

Now I have to wait until May for more Dresden. I wonder how much the Fomar will factor into Skin Game.

Sky Corbelli | 288 comments I enjoyed this one. It's certainly my favorite story in the compilation so far, but I am a Jim Butcher fan boy, so that probably isn't saying much. We'll see what Sanderson can bring to the table tomorrow, most likely, and maybe a dark horse will run away with it.

That said, I feel like Butcher's voices for Murphy, Thomas, and Marcone (from Dark and Stormy Knights) were significantly stronger than his voice for Molly. She came off as a kind of less confident Dresden, which was sad because I expected her to have a more unique personality.

Ah well, it didn't take too much away from my enjoyment of the story, and I always like getting that look at things going on outside of Harry's immediate vicinity.

Andreas I haven't read any Dresden novels. I know that there are spoilers but I don't mind because I currently don't plan to go that far into the series.
My question is: Do I need background information or is this story fine for a Dresden newbie?

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't read the series IMHO.

I'm not sure how much would make sense to you. You should probably just skip it.

Linette | 135 comments Enjoyed this one - seeing what was happening with Molly while Harry was MIA, and how it was changing her, and more about the way her talents work - lip tingles, really?
Looking forward to more Harry soon but this was a nice visit to his world.

Andreas I had a blast with this story, I really liked it! It's like popcorn kino, you don't have to think much but enjoy the firework. Butcher managed to build up tension and speed, and I liked the characters. The zoo of Edda's alba (the swartelves), Irish mythology with Fomorians and Sidhe and the usual werewolves etc. was nice. And in contrast to Abercrombie's story, this novella felt more closed in itself instead of a cutout from a larger novel. In fact, I was able to read it as a standalone and didn't need anything to know about the Dresden series.

Lee I've only read Storm Front but because I'm on the fence on if I want to continue the series or not I decided to go ahead and read this short spoilers or not. Even though I didn't know who the characters were I never once felt confused or lost by what was going on. And I enjoyed it as a stand alone story. Coming off of Storm Front Molly had a different 'voice' than Harry, though, sometimes I felt she was too "feminine" but not knowing Molly that could just be me. I usually don't read girly-girl stories. I liked it alright and I'm sure it has more meaning for someone who has followed the series.

All of you people spoiling the Dresden series by reading this makes me very sad.

The series gets much much better after Storm Front too.

This. 100% true. I appreciated Storm Front after reading White Night, but not until then. My wife started with Fool Moon and didn't regret it.

Lee I'll probably continue. But I don't read much urban fantasy and even less mystery. Though, I did like Storm Front.

I've read a bunch of Urban Fantasy in the past. Just Dresden now though. Nothing else compares for me.

*cough*read Zero Sight*cough*

I even sang a song about it, what more do you want?!

Nah, without having read the story I probably wouldn't read Stormfront at all. That should make you happy :)

Heidi (bikki) | 37 comments I am also very bias when it comes to the Dresden Files. I am a huge fan! I liked this story, it was nice to see what Mollys relationship with magic was. Though, I didn't see the scary wizard that Harry talks about. Though considering how she got around, I guess that is pretty scary.

Being a Dresden Files fan, I will say I liked Storm Front but almost didn't continue. Much like the Sookie Stackhouse books, the first book was meh. I was entertained, it was alright. The series really builds. It wasn't until the third book Grave Peril that I was truly hooked.
