The other day I randomly remembered reading a book where some sort of gem (or some similar object) was directly sewn into the necks/throats of at least one character. The gem may have had some connection to magic, but I'm not sure. I probably read this within the past 5-6 years, so I'm 98% sure it's either a YA or middle grade book. I'm also fairly sure it's fantasy. My guess is that the book was no more than ten years old, at most, when I read it.
