Jay Howard (jay_howard) If (and ONLY if) you've read a book by one of our members and really liked it, don't forget to click that Like button when you post the review on Amazon. This will count in the way Amazon ranks books and its algorithm decides which ones should be listed ahead of others. You could also agree with the tags if you think them appropriate as that will help readers find books when they search on those groupings, since Amazon will list first those with most agreed tags.

Here on GR there's Listopia, which you can use to vote for each other's books. The same applies, though - honesty is valued here, so only vote if you have read the book and you think it worthy of that vote.

Peni Renner (penijo_renner) What exactly is the Amazon countdown program?

Hi Peni,

The amazon count down program is a new kindle select promotional tool where authors can discount their books for a certain amount of time. You can set to discount it by a certain percentage then increase the price back up to normal slowly within a certain time frame.

You can also just discounted to a set price for the time limit then it will reverse to its original price--hence the countdown. Hope this cleared things up a bit.

Best regards,

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments I've been hearing there are some weird things going on with the Countdown royalties not adding up - did you have this experience? I've seen a couple screen-shots where the math just doesn't add up.

Eisah Eisah | 31 comments I haven't tried using that option yet so I don't know about the math (I've only used the free days, which I'm using up right now), but I agree with Jaq. We should find a way for a bunch of authors to get together to make a promotion that attracts a lot more attention.

Jay Howard (jay_howard) I'm certainly not prepared to tie myself in to Amazon with Select, but I'd be interested in other ideas we can use for mutual benefit. Can't think of any, though...

I'm not comfortable with some aspects of Select either. I think networking with friends, as we do here, leads to longer lasting and mutually positive benefits for all involved.

Gary Williams | 25 comments Type 'boxed set' into a search at the Kindle store, and you'll find lots of boxed sets (some are called bundles) by mixed authors. I don't know how they do this, but it would be a good way of using that 'also bought' synergy to cross-fertilise authors readership. All items I saw seemed to be linked by genre, or a theme of some sort.

Goodreads seems to be the perfect place for authors with this similar theme, to come together... if only someone knew how to do this??!! Is it something only available to select authors? (I know I have reservations about exclusivity of the select program). In fact, I'll ask the kindle people - I've found them pretty responsive to questions I've had so far.

Lana Bradstream | 7 comments I will definitely do that with books I enjoyed!

Sue Perry A collection of kindred titles by varied authors is a great idea, possibly with devils in the details when it comes to selecting the books to bundle together.

message 13: by Spring (new)

Spring Horton (springhorton) | 8 comments I think this is really a great idea too! There's so much authors can do to help each other. Some of us feel completely lost sometimes.

Oh, also remember the reviews. Perhaps some kind of advanced reading for people to review.

message 14: by Spring (new)

Spring Horton (springhorton) | 8 comments On that note, I am wondering if anyone interested in this idea does romance? It's not horribly advanced planning, but I have a M/M romance novella that's coming out on Valentine's Day. If anyone wanted to try and get something done by then, I'd be happy to work with you all. Or if you wanted to wait until later, I have a few other books to choose from.

Spring Horton (springhorton) | 8 comments OK, that's what I thought. I am still up for doing it sometime though.

Arthur Goodiwll | 1 comments Try reading Arthur Goodwill's debt book A Tortured Soul: A Memoir of Psychosis and Survival, it is available at:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tortured-Soul...

This book is the true story of an individuals experiences of psychosis (Hearing Voices) and recovery. It is essentially an autobiography or memoir of a sufferer of psychosis.
If you have ever wondered what it is like to be a schizophrenic or to suffer from mental health problems such as psychosis then look no further than this book.
It has been described as "sobering" but also "funny in places" as it demonstrates the life of Arthur Goodwill and the imagined torture that he suffers.

Allie Cresswell | 120 comments I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I have just come across and joined a site called Bookvetter, which is a site aimed at improving books by allowing anonymous reviews between members for both published and draft work. It's a new site and as it is all about the numbers the pool at the moment is a small one. I'm on the cusp of publishing my next book but I'm going to run it by 5 of their reviewers first who will apprise me of flaws, strengths, editorial issues etc. In return I'll read and respond to 5 other writers' works. Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://bookvetter.com/index.html

I read through the whole site. It is an interesting idea. However, I couldn't find any reviews. Where are they posted?

Ok, I'm clueless here. Where/how do I 'like' a book on amazon?
