How many years ago did you read this series?
It was about 15 years ago I read this series. I think it was written pre-1990's. The cover shows a girl with wind blown hair staring, with a horse behind her and her home way in the background. Rolling green hills of Scotland.

The first of the series takes place in Scotland on Maggie's 17th birthday. She is a restless, horse loving gal who meets Ian, a man of 20-something that her parents disapprove of. Throughout this series her life complicated by misunderstandings and decisions are made on miscommunications. Ultimately Maggie grows up and travels to America in hopes of a new world thinking her beloved Ian is dead and she is with child. I remember one of the last books in this series ends with her and her granddaughter in America.
