Lots of delays, but I finished Turn Coat. Helping with prep and running a garage/plant sale for sisters for the next day or two, so don't know if I will be able to start Changes until the weekend.

I know the new one is out next week, but I'd say don't hurry. I envy readers who have just found the Dresden books.
For those of yall in the Feedback group: the GR team recently released a new (and again unasked for) feature: Q&A with authors. The feature is limited to Feedback members and the number of authors are limited. But Jim Butcher is one of the authors participating, just as an FYI.

Direct to the Butcher section. But you have to be a Feedback group member at this moment.
Ala wrote: "Is there a list of the Q&As?"Not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean of questions asked? I am not sure. But the (very short) list of participating authors is here: https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/4...
Ala wrote: "Meant a list of the questions asked and answered. Was hoping Butcher had answered some by now."Well, the feature just got released today. And the questions do not show up until the author answers them...
So - for now - I would say just ask away!
Oh, yes! Only 5 more sleeps ;)
I think the biggest compliment a writer could receive is that his or her readers envy the new fans as they get to experience a series for the first time. We all wish we could go back and savour those first reads just a bit more. That's true love, I think.

I feel this way about Kate. :)
Im wondering if someone can clue me in if the writing itself changes through out the series. Im currently reading the first book. My personal opinion is that the narrative and style leaves much to be desired. It might just be that im looking for something different. I have heard that the later novels are improvements. Do they get better in regards to plot selection or the way Butcher actually writes?
Id appreciate a heads up on that. It would dictate whether I continue the series or move on to something that suits my personal tastes better.
It's a subjective judgement of course as how each person likes a writer's voice can be different, that said, I like the Dresden books. I think Mr. Butcher hits his stride about book 4. But, I like the ones before that to.
For me it happened right away in book 3. The opening chapter of that one took the series to a new level. Before that it was a decent-good read, and then it became a must-read.I don't know if it's his actual style or the plot itself, but I suspect it's a combination of the two. He manages to get in your head and make these characters matter, at any rate.
Zen wrote: "Im wondering if someone can clue me in if the writing itself changes through out the series. Im currently reading the first book. They become a bit more serious - which, imo, is more a detriment than a plus, but I'm obviously in the minority.

I have read about many plot aspects opening up in later books, including his world building. That's a reason I may read on.
Im currently reading The Malazan Empire. Its wide usage of vocabulary must be making me be picky with novels that hold different scope and are free flowing. lol

So maybe I may give a few novels a chance, before giving up on the series.

Thanks for the info. I may just get to that book 3 to see if it does the same for me. lol
I have to say, over so many books, this author really maintains interest. Most authors, by now, have dropped down into some sort of formulae. If he has one other than presenting a new (or several new) problems each book, I haven't noticed it.I'm a little more than halfway on Changes. I've a big cleaning project today, so it is possible I may even finish the book today!

Having just finished Skin Game I can confidently say that he is still managing to make each book feel different and fresh, while still maintaining all the stuff we love about Dresden.
Finished Changes today. VERY exciting, lots of changes, treachery and humor. Great book! I might try starting Ghost Story today. I have a big one room project (moving 2 bookshelves full of stuff to the other side of a room), so I probably could get a lot of it done today.
I recent read "Storm Front" and thoroughly enjoyed. It reminds of what Philip Marlowe would be like if he were a wizard with a sense of humor. I just noticed this discussion today. I'm definitely on the Dresden/Jim Butcher bandwagon.
Finally finished Ghost Story. Not my favorite story. Had some great elements and action, but was overall depressing. Maybe if I hadn't listened to this while recovering from surgery, I might have liked it better. Oh well. On to the next book.

And it was a lot more humorous than I expected. I've been in the mood for some non romance urban fantasy - I might give Dresden another go.
Finished Skin Game btw. =) Very much enjoyed. Next Dresden is... *starts watching the corn grow* ...when?

My daughter is a big fan of Charles de Lint. He's been dubbed the Father of Urban Fantasy--if not the first, he's one of the first writers of urban fantasy. I've read a few of his books and enjoyed them all. He uses a lot of American and European folklore mixed into his stories. The ones I've read haven't been romances.Charles de Lint Here's the best of list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

You asked, I *try* to deliver!I've set up a listopia for Urban Fantasy with a side of UF. ;-)

PLEASE go look and add what you can!
I finished Cold Days last week. Very exciting. caught up with some of the short stories. I'm about 4 hours in to Skin Game. So far so good. Also have 3 more shorts to find.
There was a great fan-made trailer for Skin Game and a discussion panel at Denver ComiCon. I was one of three Harry Dresdens I saw. (I mean, I'm tall, wear a black hat, and use a staff to walk. It wasn't hard :) ) I need a better amulet, though.
I'm nearly caught up! Finished Skin Games today! Great story. I still have a couple of short stories to finish my catch up. I know I have them. Just have to figure out where they are.
Stephanie wrote: "I'm nearly caught up! Finished Skin Games today! Great story. I still have a couple of short stories to finish my catch up. I know I have them. Just have to figure out where they are."Hurrah! I loved Skin Game. Can't wait for Peace Talks now.
I realised the other day that there are a couple of Dresden short stories I haven't read. I know there's "Bombshells" in Dangerous Women and I think there's a Marcone one in another anthology somewhere but I can't remember where, which is slightly irritating :)
Paul wrote: "Just found it in the Dresden Files series list topic. Love this book group!!"Matt wrote: "Paul, have you read Side Jobs? Lots of fun."
Careful, Side Jobs has some spoilers in it all the way to book #12, Changes.
Check out this thread on Mobilread: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/show...
I have read Side Jobs and loved it. I just need to pick up the stories that have been done for other anthologies.
Look what I just got on NetGalley: Jim Butcher's Dresden Files: War CryIt's a "Read it Now", so there's no approval needed.
FYI: Storm Front & Fool Moon audiobooks read by the amazetastic James Marsters are each on sale for $5.95 until 10/19 via Audible: http://www.audible.com/mt/DNS14-Sale-FanIf you haven't read Dresden and are looking to jump in, I recommend the audio highly. Marsters' reading is fan-freaking-tastic, and $6 for the audio is a great deal. :D
