Kasia So, who's up for this month's Pick-It-For-Me challenge?

What's a Pick-It-For-Me?
It's a group recommend a book thing - works just like a Secret Santa or Xmas Exchange, except the gift is replaced by a book recommendation. The names (givee-giver pairings) are randomly assigned. So whomever you get, you recommend a book for them. Preferably it should be something new and unfamiliar to that person, NOT a book from their to-read list - the point is to introduce new books and new authors. In return, you'll have a book recommended to you (by someone else). After you're done with your recommended, a short post with some feedback/mini-review would be appreciated.

For this challenge, you need either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable) or make the person who'd be doing the recommending to you your friend. On top of that, I strongly advise keeping your bookshelves updated, otherwise you might end up with a recommendation for something that you've already read...

Signing up period will remain open until the 28th.

Who's in?

Kasia Laura!!! Gracie!!!

Please make sure that Sarah and Yz can view your shelves (friending them works). Otherwise the challenge won't work and I would have to take you out of the loop and I don't want to be doing that... Pretty please.

message 31: by Kasia (last edited Jun 28, 2009 04:31AM) (new)

Kasia Michelle, I know you mostly go for PNR, but according to your profile you're not opposed to other stuff from time to time. So I'd like to recommend to you The Hunger Games:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - give it a try!

message 32: by Annvelwis (new)

Annvelwis | 671 comments Karyn,
It was really hard to look at your shelfs and _not_ add books to my TBR ;))
My recommendation goes to:
1. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs
2. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
3. The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson
4. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
Heh, I hope you'll like one of them, but to be sure I leave the final choice to you ;)

message 33: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments Annie,

I saw a lot of young adult books and retold fairy tales on your shelf (me too!) so I'm going to recommend something by Cameron Dokey. She writes fairy tales for a series called Once Upon a Time. I've read a few, but not all. I loved The Storyteller's Daughter and Golden A Retelling of "Rapunzel" the best. I'm going to leave it up to you which book in this series by her you can find/want to read.

If that doesn't work, then I'm going to recommend The Year Of Secret Assignments for lots of laughs.

Let me know what you choose!

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments I've put in a friend request for you, Laura. I look forward to picking for you!

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I did the same thing with Gracie. Just waiting for a response.

message 36: by Maggie (last edited Jun 28, 2009 09:49AM) (new)

Maggie (MidnightWolfe) | 11 comments Yz,

I had tons of fun browsing all your shelves! We share a few books in common! I saw that you have read a variety of different books and authors, and I didn't find this book on your shelf. I'm going to recommend Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson. It's the first in a series. I hope you like it!

message 37: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Sounds like something I would enjoy reading. I've already requested it from the library, and hopes it gets to me soon.

Thanks for the recommendation, Maggie.

message 38: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (MidnightWolfe) | 11 comments Oh, yay! No problem! I had fun doing it! :)

message 39: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey For Mary:

I had a rough time with you because most of your TBR shelf was what I would recommend! So, I did find something that I hope you will like. Need by Carrie Jones reminded me a bit of the Twilight series when I read it, so I thought it would be a good choice for you. :)

Thanks Kasia, sounds good. I shall go shopping this week :)

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 670 comments Valerie,

Had a look round your shelves, I noticed you read fae novels and I would like to recommend Storm Born by Richelle Mead. It is the first in a series however book 2 isn't yet available. I hope you like it. If it doesn't suit let me know :)

message 42: by Lara (last edited Jun 30, 2009 10:51AM) (new)

Lara | 109 comments Sallie,
I have chosen a book for you by one of my favorite authors. I have chosen Still Lake by Anne Stuart. It is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy.
Still Lake by Anne Stuart

message 43: by Kasia (new)

Kasia On a second thought Michelle, if you crave some vampire action, I have 2 more books for you.
Wages of Sin (Cin Craven, #1) by Jenna Maclaine and or COMPANIONS OF THE NIGHT (Laurel-Leaf Books) by Vivian Vande Velde
So whichever you can get your hands on.

message 44: by Karyn (new)

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 43 comments Annvelwis, I think I'm going to try Dead Until Dark, but will probably end up reading your other suggestions too.

Lara, There are three books I'd recommend:
The Host by stephanie Meyer
Wicked By Gregory Maguire
Bitten By Kelley Armstrong

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1102 comments This is for Sarah: I had a hard time deciding what to pick but thought you might enjoy a beach read so for you I have chosen a book by one of my favorites - Sullivan's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank. I hope you enjoy.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1102 comments I would like to send a thank you to Lara for the book that she has chosen for me - I look forward to reading ASAP. Thank you

message 47: by Kainda (new)

Kainda | 6 comments Alright, here are my recommendations for Kristen:

Going Dutch by Katie Fforde
Dreaming the Eagle by Manda Scott
Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell

message 48: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Kainda,
Fun shelves! Lots of fantasy and young adults (like mine, really!)...

Nice to know John Marsden has made it to Europe.

I'm going New Zealand authors for you, so hopefully you'll be able to track down my recommendations.
Margaret Mahy Changeover A Supernatural Romance OR Catalogue of the Universe
OR
Sherryl Jordan Secret Sacrament OR
The Juniper Game

Hi Melissa
Thanks for that! I've been pondering making a 'fairy tales retold' shelf on my shelves... all the more reason!
The perils of being a young adults librarian is that's nearly all I read...

Karyn, Thanks for the great suggestions. I have decided to go with Wicked . I am excited about this read and can't wait to start.
