This is an interesting tidbit. Do you have a source? Thanks!

I am by no means an expert on the subject.
The statement and figures quoted in my previous comment are based soley upon personal experience; in my case: 15% royalty for each unit (paperback, e-Book download, audio book on CD, or audio book download) actually sold. The selling price of a unit sold to the commercial vendor on-consignment is established by the publisher.
I always try to limit my input on any subject to what I know; or at least think I do.

Brenda,
I am by no means an expert. My previous statement was based soley upon personal experience.
During the cover design phase, the graphic design artist assigned to my book by the publisher contacted me to request as many ideas as I might have regarding not only the front cover, but the spine and backmatter as well.
A week or two later, he e-mailed me three cover design concepts which he felt best represented my story concept. I must confess that all three were much better than my ideas.
I selected the one I liked best and that became the cover, spine, and backmatter which you now see on my book.
Jim
