A H I'm so glad something like this exists! It'll be so awesome to keep track, post and update about the books I'll be reading in 2014!!

So, my aim is quite low this time due to pressure of studies. I'm gonna aim for 40 books (only!) this year but let's see, if I complete 40 books before December 2014, I may add to the goal.

Here's how my thread works:

A list of all books which I'll read will be posted in the next post itself. I'll keep on adding books to the list as and when I finish reading a book. Separate descriptions and my views about each book will be posted in the following posts.

I'll start updating from January, 1st week:)

A H Here's my first book for 2014:The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

A H Completed The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger by Lauren Weisberger.

Okay, so to be honest, I was trying to read this book from a few months but I could never seem to complete it. Every time I started with the book, I would complete the first twenty pages and then give it up for it's too boring. Then finally, I decided that I have to complete it this year and so, here I am!

I'll have to say that I am disappointed with the book. I had expected a lot since this book (and movie) is quite famous but the worst part is that book doens't even have a proper story! It's all about a girl (Andrea) who goes on ranting and raving about her boss (Miranda "the devil") and how pathetic her life and job is.....and the ending, it was bad. So, all in all, don't waste your time on this one.

Recommendation : NO
Stars : 1 and 1/2

A H I've started with The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks by Nicholas Sparks! So far so good:):)

message 10: by A (new)

A H Finished with my second book of the year : The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

And what do I say!!! Such a spectacular read!!! It was beautiful....simply beautiful. Creative narration, which appealed to me a lot, heart-touching characters and a wonderful story. A must-read for everyone!

However, I must add, that I feel this book is slightly over-rated. It was excellent, no doubt, but all the fuss people create about this book, that's it's THE best, and they cried so hard and the ending was SO good and all....just found all of it a little over-the-top.

But do read it if you haven't guys....:)

message 11: by A (new)

A H Also finished : The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

This was a little disappointing.....being a huge fan of N. Sparks (he's one of my favorite authors...) I expected a lot....but this book was boring. Boring storyline, boring characters, boring writing....you'll have difficulty even completing it...

A H 4th book of the year : Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell by Rainbow Rowell.

And......I loved it!!! Frankly speaking, I wan't expecting much from it but I was pleasantly surprised:) Loved the book, enjoyed the writing and the characters were lovely. The ending made me want more of the story and I hope the book has a sequel....

Hi Ruchi

You just summed up exactly how I felt about this book. I wanted a more definite HEA for these two so badly! In the absence of a sequel I found other books by the author :)

Good luck with your challenge! You seem to be doing well

A H Finished with The Indigo Spell (Bloodlines, #3) by Richelle Mead by Richelle Mead. I have to say....am heavily disappointed. I'm a HUGE fan of the Vampire Academy series and liked the first two books of Bloodlines series too but this book was somehow....so bad. Couldn't even complete it..:( Maybe it's because I'm reading this book after a long time, I read Golden Lily long back so maybe I just couldn;t connect to the story....but anyway, this was really disappinting.

A H Started with The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and still on The Help by Kathryn Stockett

message 19: by A (new)

A H Finished with The Help by Kathryn Stockett ! last night...

Nice book...I liked it, wouldn't pretend and say I loved it or anything. I mean, the writing was good, the story was really nice and the characters managed to, at times, pull at your heart strings. But that's just about it. Even though the story was sad, I didn't cry or anything. So I guess what I'm saying is that this book was pretty normal, there was nothing special about it or anything...there was nothing different either. I was expecting something more, something different. I was wrong. But do give it a shot! You might just like it more than me;)

message 20: by A (new)

A H Have started with The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand) and I just can't seem to finish The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger :(

A H I completed The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

Ugh....I gave up on this book. I know, you must have heard all praises for the and maybe a little surprised to see the low rating but I just couldn't go on. From the start, I hated it....Romance is my favorite genre and I've never ever had such a reaction towards any romance book other than two of N. Sparks' worst books. Never. So it goes without saying that I shouldn't have had such a reaction to this book. It was with so much expectations that I sat for the book and was heavily disappointed. I mean, after reading the book, I'm like this:

I had already seen the movie and was expecting a lot from the book since I loved the movie - especially the story. It was so different and unusual. But maybe that's where it all went wrong. It was like, I already knew everything about the story and there was nothing new, or nothing to expect. All in all - heavily disappointed.

So, since I didn't like the book, I'd say don't go ahead with the book. But do go ahead with some other reviews and see if it changes your mind:)

A H Lorah wrote: "I gave up on The Time Travellers Wife too! I found it confusing and I just couldn't get into it."

Yes, it was definitely confusing but since I had seen the movie, I understood most parts....It was the 'boring' stuff which made me mad:P

Really nice to hear you say this. I remember feeling inspired by this book, but afterwords I couldn't describe that to anyone without the conversation becoming about the author.

A H I finished Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

2.5 stars by my side. This book was just so-so for me. Nothing special, in fact, I loved Elenor and Park much more. This book is the kind of light-reading you do when you want breaks from reading those heavy, intense, serious type of stories - it's like a refreshment, a light, frivolous read. Emphasizes fanfiction as a form of literature, and how important it is to people, especially teenagers. First love, bonds of family and college life is the base of the story. Read only if you'd like to do some light, fun reading, otherwise - the book's not worth it.

A H Started with A Clash of Kings

message 34: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments It's interesting that you say you loved Eleanor & Park more because I feel like most people like Fangirl more. It's one that I've been toying with reading for awhile.

I definitely liked Eleanor and Park more. The story was better and I liked the characters more. Fangirl didn't have anything to....like, stand out. It was pretty normal. I loved Eleanor and Park because of its witty humor and the mismatched love. It was better than the normal books we read nowadays. Though something which both the books share - a disappointing ending.

Among these two, I would choose Legend. But If I Stay's sequel, Where She Went was better than Legend.
