i think it was a young adult book the boy travels to the future and an evil version of his older self the book end with that he has to travel back to the time of the dinosaurs to return the time egg to undo the changes

just heard it again in danish det mystiske sølvæg forgot how scary it was! the fact that it gets worse everytime he uses the egg. t also just heard house of stairs den hemelige kode the secret code in danish also by william sleator someone should a dockumentary on him thank you for your help nothing beats the past!
