So as we're a little light on BotM this month and well for no other reason than I want to read something with this theme (and looking for ideas from other people too) ......

Read a book that has something to do with Winter or Christmas

Examples:

Winter Town by Stephen Emond <-- Has Winter in title and snow on cover

The Christmas List by Richard Paul Evans <-- About Christmas

The above are only examples you can choose whatever book you like within the theme. Just post what you have read, with your thoughts once you're done.

Great idea, Lynn! I've been looking for a holiday themed read this year. I just started A Christmas Carol and I'm hoping to have time later in the month to read All I Want for Christmas is You. I'll update with my thoughts once I've had time to read them. :)

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens All I Want for Christmas is You (Fate with a Helping Hand, #1) by Lisa Mondello

Thanks Kristie :)

I love Christmas and have already watched a silly amount of cheesy Christmas films, so thought I'd join in with the books too!

The two examples above are the two I'm hoping to read.

I'm the same way. Lots of cheesy Christmas movies and excess Christmas music. I've just decided to add the books in this year too. I have The Christmas List and a couple others on my TBR as well.

Jan Christmas Bliss by Mary Kay Andrews

I'm going to read Christmas Bliss by Mary Kay Andrews.

Aw I like the sound of that but it seems we should read the previous ones first, which I don't have time for :)

Sandy from Alaska Colón (sandycfromak) | 56 comments I have The Last Noel by Michael Malone that I received as free ebook from B&N. This a great idea!

A few others that I have recently added to my TBR, if anyone is looking for ideas:

Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright The Christmas Box (The Christmas Box Trilogy #1) by Richard Paul Evans The Christmas Shoes (Christmas Hope #1) by Donna VanLiere

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I love this idea of theme read, I've started listening to Christmas in the City and Michael Buble's Christmas songs, and having a book or two to read will add to the flavour!

I haven't decided on the title yet, I will update my entry as soon as I choose something :)

Colleen | 139 comments I think I have Skipping Christmas: Christmas with The Kranks somewhere around here. I read 'Tis The Season last year. I can usually handle one Christmas book a year.

Visions of Sugar Plums (Stephanie Plum, #8.5) by Janet Evanovich
This is a short and funny read! I recommend it for a quick Christmas Theme read!

@ Colleen - I can't wait to see what you think of Christmas with the Kranks. I was considering adding it to my TBR and noticed that it has very mixed reviews. I think I'd like to read it for Christmas next year.

@ Linda - That book is #8.5. Can her books be read out of order or is there that thread that blends them together so that they should be read in order? I haven't read anything from that series yet. (I keep meaning to, they just keep falling through the cracks!)

I've read up to #8 and I would say you could read them on their own. Pretty much the only storyline that continues through her books is the will-she, won't-she love interests with Morelli and Ranger.

Thanks, Lynn! I've just added a bunch of holiday books to my TBR. Went a little nutty. lol

So I started The Christmas List by Richard Paul Evans today .... and finished it!

It was a little cheesy (but that's to be expected from a Christmas book I think?) but so lovely and I had tears streaming down my face by the end. 5 stars!

Amanda Jones (amandasjones) | 8 comments I LOVE the idea of curling up with a good Christmas story over the holidays. I usually watch the classics - would love to read a magical story - do any of those above listed fit the bill :)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I have this book on my tbr list, Lynn, thanks for sharing your opinion, as I'm going to read it next week to get to the mood :)

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer My holiday reads this year are going to be Let it Snow by John Green and You Better Not Cry Stories for Christmas by Augusten Burroughs

message 20: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'll be reading The Dogs of Christmas

message 21: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I finished The Dogs of Christmas by W. Bruce Cameron this morning. It's a wonderful read. Not too saccharine. But I advise you to have a Kleenex box handy at the end.

I've just read Winter Town by Stephen Emond

It centers around the friendship of two teenagers named Evan and Lucy. They grew up together and are best friends, but when Lucy's parent's split and she moves away with her Mother they only get to see each other during winter break.

This year when when Lucy arrives back in town, she doesn't look — nor act — anything like Evan remembers.

The book has a nice balance for YA realistic fiction; not too sickingly sweet chick-lit but also not too over dramatic teenage angst.

A cute, little story that didn't wow but definitely made me smile. 3 Stars.

Kirsten (kmcripn) As I'm listening to the BBC Singers performing Bach's Christmas Cantatas, I just read a short e-book by Martin Walker as part of his Bruno series set in the French countryside.

Bruno and the Carol Singers: A Christmas Mystery of the French Countryside

It's a lovely short read and very seasonal. It's about the spirit of the season and also shows the wonderful traditions of Christmas in the French countryside!

Alycia (bookhound18) I love this thread, Lynn! Thanks for thinking it up! :) I, also, am a great fan of the cheesy Hallmarky Christmas movies and usually read a Christmas themed book right before the big day. I'll have to look at the two you read!

I plan to read Angels at the Table A Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy Christmas Story by Debbie Macomber this year. I read Call Me Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber last year and thought it was cute. I found the angels one at a library book sale this year and figured it could be my Christmas book for this year. :)
Also may read: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson since I've never read it...

The Christmas Shoes will make you cry! It's great though.... :)

Love Skipping Christmas! The movie (Christmas with the Kranks) follows the book pretty closely which is unusual.

Did you ever read Hercule Poirot's Christmas (Hercule Poirot, #20) by Agatha Christie ? I read it last year and loved it! Gave it 5 stars! :)

message 28: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (bookhound18) I haven't! I also have it on hold at the library and am hoping it comes in on time! lol

Deb Bartram | 115 comments Last year I read The Twelve Clues of Christmas (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #6) by Rhys Bowen and absolutely loved it (and didn't realize it was the middle of a series until after).

This year I read Holly (Taggert, #6) by Jude Deveraux , which was an easy read but not a very satisfying book. I'm now reading I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas (Half-Moon Hollow, #2.6) by Molly Harper just for fun!

I forgot to update here, but I read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens . It is exactly what I expected after seeing so many movie and theater versions. It was really great to finally read it.

I did not have time to read the other Christmas themed stories that I wanted to this year. I'm hoping that next season I will have more time to do so (as I will be done with school!) and have added a bunch to my TBR. :)

Great idea for an additional read Lynn! Hope to do it again next year.

Yeah, a bunch has been added to my list too so I'm sure I'll be doing it again :)
