I am!! I'm panicking that (based on the title) Varen might forget Isobel or vise versa. Or both! I REALLY don't like the vagueness of the title.... I'm scared, especially after what Varen did to Isobel at the end of Ensahdowed. I mean, Kelly Creagh wouldn't make the ending of the series tragic.... right? She has to know her fans would be pissed if she did.

Bee | 2 comments I don't feel like its going to be tragic persay, Kelly is far too clever for that, however I think we're going to get one heck of a bittersweet ending. One of those ones that hurt, but in a good way. The kind that you leave you feeling sadly happy.

Sarah | 22 comments She's confirmed it on both twitter and facebook. Up until this point, it sounds like the book hadn't even been finished until recently. So pissed right now. Why would she tell us multiple times that it was going to be ready for release this summer when obviously she really should have known that it wasn't? I mean if the book hadn't even been finished, obviously it is not going to be ready for a 2014 release date. What is the point in getting fan hopes up like that?

The book is done. It sounds like it's going through final edits now. Someone posted about the release on her fb wall, and this is what Kelly replied with:

"I have not posted a release date until now because I wanted to wait until the project was finished. The book is written and I just completed copyedits, so the release date is July 2015."

Maybe we'll get lucky and the release date will be moved forward to winter 2015 (sometime from January-March) instead of summer 2015. She said on twitter that Simon and Schuster (the publisher) told her that it would be July 2015 though.

Sarah | 22 comments I'm just so frustrated though because SHE told us that it was going to be ready this August. If she wasn't 100% sure about this, she really shouldn't have said so because she knows how long her fans have been waiting for this book. People were already mad that there was a 2-year gap between Nevermore and Enshadowed's publications. Now, this will make it a 3-year gap between Enshadowed and Oblivion's publication.

I'm wondering how many fans she's going to end up losing because of this, and I don't just mean because of the constant pushing back of the release date but because of the fact that there is an entire 3 years between the second and last book. People that don't keep track of her on FB and twitter are going to completely end up forgetting about this trilogy because the wait between books is so long.

I just hope that this remains a trilogy and doesn't turn into a series because I can't wait another 2-3 years for another book if, for some reason, this doesn't end with Oblivion.

Temperance Foreverhopeful21 wrote: "I'm just so frustrated though because SHE told us that it was going to be ready this August. If she wasn't 100% sure about this, she really shouldn't have said so because she knows how long her fan..."

I hate to be all doom and gloom, but I doubt it. I mean, she pushed it back. Again. I really hope that you're right, but I'm running low on faith.

But how can we trust her? She said that the book would be published by August! It's just....unbelievable. I am having a hard time putting this into words. If she wasn't sure, she should have never set the date; i wish she had done that for the second book. Not to be rude, or anything, but I was kind of disappointe with it. You're right; she has a reputation for doing this and now, it's going to hurt the books. Oh my....that's a really good point; I wouldn't have known anything if it wasn't for GR. I would have to say a ton. People are upset about this, and frankly, I'm with them.

I hope so too, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I hope Oblivion is the last one, but there are a lot of loose ends. I'm wondering if she'll be able to address them all.

Exactly! She is really hurting her relationship with her fandom because of this. I don't mind being told that I'm going to have to wait 2 or 3 years if I'm told this up front. However, I am pissed if I'm told one thing and then another later on. It's one thing to push back a release date once or maybe by a couple months but to push it back a second time and the wait is now an entire year just leaves me feeling betrayed and very disheartened, especially when she had posted things that made it seem like the release date was on schedule as it should be.

There was another post back in April where someone had posted about something, and she had replied with saying that they would be doing some give aways "closer to the release date" to kind of PR for Oblivion.

I went back and looked at her FB wall from April till now and did notice that she DID state a couple times to certain posters that she WASN'T sure of the EXACT DATE of Oblivion's release. However, last winter, I know that SHE DID SAY that it would be released this summer. I'm not going to go hunting for those posts, but I do remember her stating several times last year in 2013 that Oblivion would have a 2014 release date.

I wish she would have just been up front and honest with us though back in the spring of this year and said that the release date wasn't a sure thing. I mean, I guess I can understand why she didn't say anything since the publishers are the ones that decide the release date and not her (and it sounds like they just recently confirmed the release date to her hence the last minute announcement of the push back), but I'm just really pissed that her estimate was so off base and that the announcement didn't come until TWO MONTHS before the expected release date. I had gotten to the point where I was literally counting down the days till I had Oblivion in my hands. I have seriously been waiting all year for it, and it was my highest anticipatory read of 2014; to be told that I now have to wait a whole 'nother year for it is just devastating.

She really is. I mean, like you said, if she had been open about this, I wouldn't be as angry. But she wasn't, which seriously makes things worse. I don't see why she couldn't move it back a few months; you're saying that it was almost finished. A few final edits shouldn't take an entire year.

Really? Then that doesn't make any sense; why do all the PR now when she was only going to push the release date back? This doesn't make any sense...

She wasn't sure? Wow...if that's not warning bells, I don't know what is. But then....ugh, the whole thing is just so confusing.

If she had done that, been honest that the release date was tentative, I think it would have gone over a lot better. I don't know if they were communicating well; it sounds like she was behind on something or they messed something up along the way. They should have called things up much, much earlier. I was really excited to; I wanted to see where she was going to go with Oblivion and after the agony of having to wait for the second book, I was looking forward to not having to wait for this one. But, alas, it was all too good to be true. Now, another year of waiting, which is going to be excruciating.

It's going to have to; anything less would be a serious letdown. Fingers crossed here.

Sarah | 22 comments It definitely wasn't Kelly's DECISION to push the release date back; I understand that she doesn't have control over that. However, if the publishing company hadn't yet given her a confirmed date of release, she shouldn't have been telling readers that it was going to be released this summer. That is what I am most disappointed about. I honestly would have rather had her say last year that she didn't know when it would be released because then I wouldn't have had my hopes set for this August.

Maliha | 7 comments It may be a cheap shot but since Kelly updates about her belly dancing world on FB constantly, the least she could have done was update the book's progress! I mean the August 2014 release date didn't come from nowhere and even though she claims she doesn't know where it came from, didn't she ever bother to check it out on GR? I mean it is her book...

I waited over a year for Enshadowed and pissed doesn't cover what I felt when Varen only appeared at the end at 98% of the book, as Lilith's puppet only to push Isobel over to her death. Did he even say a word to her? I mean I was like, WTH?!! Who does that?

And now I'll have to wait ANOTHER year, in addition to the last 2, to read Oblivion! I have a mental countdown to each anticipated sequel and Oblivion was going to be one of the best ones for me this year but nooooooo with just a month left for the anticipated release Kelly announces that we have to wait one more year, not month, for this book! What has she been doing for the last 2 years? I mean I understand she has her own personal life and all, but really, 2 years? I've seen authors publish 2-3 books a year and Kelly will have managed only 3 in 5 years!! And I'm not just mad but very disappointed.

I swear Oblivion better be full of - wait, scratch that - it better be BRIMMING with sweet Varen scenes and make-out make-up scenes and lots of groveling from Nethers! If Varen doesn't show up in the book, and not in dreams, by the first 10% of the book, I'm abandoning the series and vow to never touch the book again!

Temperance Maliha wrote: "It may be a cheap shot but since Kelly updates about her belly dancing world on FB constantly, the least she could have done was update the book's progress! I mean the August 2014 release date didn..."

That's not cheap at all. It would have been the smart thing to document the book's progress. I get tht she has stuff going on, but for us to get the news out of the blue like that is absolutely unacceptable.

Thank you! I was soo pissed tht poor Varen got one piddly scene at the end of the book! And what happened in that scene...I thought my fangirl heart was never going to recover. We've already had to wait for the second one for like, an additional year, but this is freaking torture!

I couldn't agree more! Oblivion better have a freaking ton of Varen, especially after Enshadowed. I mean, Varen is an interesting, complex character. Who wouldn't want to write more of him, especially when they have such a fascinating back history to work with. He and Isobel are an amazing couple and I can't belive she didn't highlight that. Oblivion has to knock it out of the park whem it finally gets released. If it doesn't....well, I don't wven want to imagine what would happened...

THANK YOU for getting me! And i thought a cheerleader and a goth would make for an amazing couple! I really wanted to see them adjust in school together, see how Varen treated his friends now and how Isobel's ex-friends treated her now. I mean, sure, writing about such opposites dating wouldn't have been easy and i kinda feel like Kelly took the easy way out. She didn't show us how Varen and Isobel would have braved the stereotypical high school student but tore them apart and had the hero literally dump her without any explanation! And Varen is so spineless! He so easily believed Lilith's word and the few lies Isobel spouted for god-knows-what-reason. And then Reynolds turns out to be Lilith's lover/whatever... maybe Kelly wanted to play it safe but she shouldn't have messed with the plot like that. Poor Isobel chases the boy who doesn't even want to be found, yet will show up in her dreams! AND THEN WHEN SHE DOES APPEAR, HE DOESN'T GIVE HER A CHANCE TO EXPLAIN EVEN. So, um, what was the point in kissing her and saying he didn't want it to end this way??

Okay, I think you're looking at this the wrong way. Lilth didn't just simply mess with Varen's head. Excuse my language, but she completely mindf*cked him by only showing him the moments where Isobel was lying to people about not caring about him. Varen never sees her searching for him. Varen does, to a certain extent, understand that Lilth is playing around with him, and THAT is why he pushes Isobel over the cliff at the end- Varen thinks that Lilth is playing with him again. He doesn't think that it really is Isobel that he's seeing; he thinks that Lilth has conjured a dream form of Isobel, and rather than getting his hopes up only to have Lilth crush them again, he pushes what he believes to be a fake Isobel over the cliffs. That is why he is so devastated when he finds Isobel's butterfly watch in the epilogue and figures out that the girl who he pushed off the cliff was, in fact, actually Isobel in the flesh. If you look at other discussions from Enshadowed, a lot of people are able to see why Varen acted the way he did. They explain it in better words than me, so you may want to check those out.

I get that part. and i did read the other discussion but forgot the part about Varen's thoughts. But did he really have to be so weak? If Lilith's done this before - toyed with him by conjuring up Isobel he shouldn't have stayed with her then. he should have tried to find a way back to the real world instead of sitting around and playing the piano for her.

But if Lilith hasn't done that, then Varen should have at least let Isobel prove that it was the real her. If he knew that Lilith was only toying with him, and if that's the reason Varen pushed her off, then he also should have believed that Isobel would keep her promise and come back for him. He should have had that much faith in her.

He better pull some really suave hero moves in Oblivion to win back my affection, though. The ending of Enshadowed was so open-ended ugh i can't believe that i have to wait a whole year for this.

Sitting around and playing the piano for her?

When did Varen play the piano in the book? That was his mom that used to do that for him when he was little. I'm sure Varen has tried to get out of the Dream world, but he didn't even know how it all worked when he first got involved with it. Reynolds warned Isobel of this in Nevermore; he told her that both she and Varen were in way over their heads and that, for Varen, it was too late to get out because he had become so involved in the world just like Poe. Remember, Poe wanted out of it, too, but the only way he could escape completely from Lilth ended up being with his death. There is still is a lot that we don't know about Lilth and the Dream world; hopefully these questions will be answered in Oblivion, but I think, right now, you're making too many assumptions about what Varen can and can't do when he is in that world. I don't think he even has the power to visit Isobel in her dreams whenever he wants to. If he did have that power, I think we would have seen a lot more scenes like the one in the first chapter when we see him visit Isobel while she is dreaming.

Also, for all we know, Lilth could have already tricked Varen with other dream world Isobel's. We don't know if the moment that Varen sees the real Isobel is the first time he's "seen" a version of her in the dream world. Maybe Lilth has previously tricked him into thinking that Isobel has come to rescue him only to reveal that it was an allusion. I don't think it's fair to be too harsh on Varen because, unfortunately, we know next to nothing of what he is experiencing in the Dream world while Isobel is searching for him (one of the negatives of seeing nearly all the book from Isobel's POV).

However, I agree with you in hoping that we get to see him really work to gain back Isobel's trust. Because the tables have, in a way turned. While it was Isobel that was trying to convince Varen in Enshadowed that she still cared for him, now it is going to be Varen that is going to have convince Isobel that he still cares for her in Oblivion.

Temperance Maliha wrote: "Temperance wrote: "Maliha wrote: "It may be a cheap shot but since Kelly updates about her belly dancing world on FB constantly, the least she could have done was update the book's progress! I mean..."

Lol, you're welcome! I agreed with a lot of what you had to say any way. :)
That was one of the things that drew me to the book in the first place; they are polar opposites and on different levels of the high school hierarchy. I agree with you 100%; it would have been really interesting to see how they could deal with the pressures of high school in edition to the nocs and Lilith. I mean, I kind of get why he believed Lilith; he's been abandoned by people his whole life. Maybe he thought his relationship with Isobel was too good to be true? But I agree with you, again; Varen needs to fix this!

@foreverhopeful21; I loved how you described it. She dragged Varen over the coals and broke his grip on reality. The scene you mentioned in the epilogue destroyed me; it's like, wow this is hard to put into words, he thought she wasn't real, but...augh, I can't do it. All I will say is this; Poor Varen!

I agree. I'm as upset as everyone else about the date. Like Ashleigh said, Kelly Creagh might not have made the decision to lengthen the time; the company might have. So, let's not be too harsh on her. She IS a really great writer and has created a pretty cool Edgar Allan Poe themed world for her fans. She created Varen for us fangirls to swoon over and the strong character Isobel. We can't completely take away her props because she's working really hard on what's probably gonna be the last book. It's true that it was unfair for her to play with our emotions like that by telling us Oblivion would be ready in August, but hopefully once the book is finally published it will have been worth the wait. I mean, she must have spent a lot of time trying to make it as perfect as possible for herself as well as her fans, right? I'm not saying anyone should be patient anymore, because we've been waiting for a while and I too would love if it came out earlier, but let's just try to remember how much we all love the series.

I also agree with Maliha and Temperance that there should be more Varen scenes in Oblivion,'cuz that cliff-hanger made a lot of people cry (me included). There SHOULD be some groveling from Varen after all the crap she went through to find him. Everyone was shocked when he pushed her off a goddamn cliff. I love Varen's complex character, but I'm starting to become slightly annoyed with him because he's letting Lilith take control over him. He's been acting a little weak to me.... I realize he doesn't have much control over his actions at the moment, but he can at least make SOME kind of effort to fight Lilith's sway. I mean, there were plenty of times when Isobel's been tried in the book and almost went over to the 'dark side' but she fought it FOR VAREN. Is it too much to ask the same from him??? I feel like what I just ranted about is probably how Isobel's gonna feel in Oblivion.

Oh, wow..... I can see your point. You're bringing a lot of insight about Oblivion. I never thought about it that way (how Varen could be going through a bunch of mental trials himself). I think I would have factored that in if Kelly Creagh had wrote some scenes in Enshadowed from Varen's point of view that show him going crazy from the delusions and being confused about what's real. I could see how that would make him doubt the sincerity of Isobel's actions if Lilith's been feeding him lies. I could see how that would make him turn against Isobel. Doing that just makes him harder to save... Ugh! Why, Varen? Why?? Why did you have to go and get yourself involved with demons and dark magic?? I guess the story wouldn't be as compelling and interesting if he hadn't. I really hope more info about the Dream World and Varen and Lilith's relationship is shared in Oblivion. Also, many shifts from Isobel's POV to Varen's so that his side of things can be shown. I guess, because we've only read from mostly Isobel's POV, we forget that Varen is suffering too. It must be confusing for him, but I still wish it could be shown that he has been trying.

Now you've got me desperate for some Varen POV! That would be awesome!! And it could reveal his emotions while he was with Lilith and convince me/the readers to forgive him!!

Let's attack Kelly and ask for a few Varen POVs from Nevermore/Enshadowed to tide us over till July!! Since she's done writing/rewriting Oblivion it's the least she could do for us, unless another book or personal life gets in the way!

Maliha | 7 comments Also, I love how Varen was vulnerable enough to get sucked into the dark dreamworld I just wish he had the strength to get himself out sooner. if only he had heard isobel out and taken her help...oh well, who can make a count down timer for oblivion? I'm not really tech savvy...
