AlexaDEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS (!! LAST LECTURE !!) Homework due: Dec. 19, Thursday, 11:59 PM Highest possible score: 10 points
Disclaimer: None of the material here is mine. The world of HP belongs to JK Rowling (the Queen) and this lesson, based on that world, belongs to whoever wrote parts of this (view spoiler)[Professor Terin, whoever he is. I just picked these out from The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble, and HEX (hide spoiler)].
Lesson : (view spoiler)[Professor Forren sat at his desk, patiently waiting for his second year students to arrive. He was feeling excited about his first term teaching at Hogwarts, and had spent most of the summer devising a fun syllabus for the first half of term. The students began trickling into the classroom, and when everyone was seated, he stood and moved in front of the desk, addressing the class.
“Welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts, first years. My name is Professor Forren and this is my first year as a teacher here. I’m looking forward to a great term, and have a very exciting schedule for us this year."
Basic Dueling Techniques
“For today's lesson, we will be discussing and practicing basic dueling techniques. To start, let's clear up some room. Everyone stand please.” As the students stood from their desks, Professor Forren raised his wand and, with a flick of his wrist, the desks flew to the sides of the room. “Now for a little sprucing up,” he said. As he waved his wand in large circles over his head, the floor of the classroom went from hard stone to padded cloth, the walls and ceiling shifted to the padded cloth as well.
“There we are, that should keep the hospital wing happy. To begin, the rules of dueling are quite simple; your goal is to incapacitate, disarm, or otherwise stop your opponent from continuing the duel. This goal should be understood by everyone dueling. Next bow to your opponent, draw your wand, raise it to your face, like you are saluting your opponent, and make a slashing motion across your body, bringing your wand to your side.”
“Like bowing before a karate match!” said a short boy from Gryffindor.
“Yes, exactly. The idea is similar— you are acknowledging your opponent. Next, you turn around and take 10 paces back before turning into your stance. A proper stance will leave you with your feet spread shoulder-width apart, and your wand at the ready, either held in front of your body or over your head. From there, you begin the duel. Now, who knows one of the basic dueling grips?”
The same Gryffindor boy raised his hand high in the air.
“Yes, Jackson?” inquired Professor Forren.
“I know the casting grip. It's where you hold your wand way back at the end and make a tight fist around the base of the wand,” Jackson said.
“Very good, 10 points to Gryffindor. The casting grip is very common for experienced duelers; it allows the most speed and variety in casting, however, many people new to dueling find it hard to use. Does anyone else know any other grips?” The class was silent. “That's alright. Another common grip is called the Italian grip, named after a similar grip in the Muggle sport of fencing. You hold your wand about an inch above the base and have your index finger extended toward the point of your wand; this gives you the most control over your wand and makes it easier to aim spells. Everyone please take out your wands and see which grip feels more comfortable to you, but no spell casting please.”
Professor Forren looked around the room and saw the majority of the class favoring the Italian grip, but there were a few students favoring the casting grip, and a few even favoring their own style.
“Alright everyone, we are going to cover two basic spells, the Revulsion Jinx and Rictusempra.” As Professor Forren spoke, the names of the spells scrawled themselves across the board. “The Revulsion Jinx is performed by pointing your wand and saying, 'Relashio.' This spell forces someone to release whatever they are holding, such as their wand, or sets them free from whatever is holding them, such as ropes or chains. Rictusempra is also known as...”
Professor Forren paused as he looked across the classroom. A black-haired Ravenclaw boy raised his hand, “Yes, Sean?”
“The tickling charm?”
“Very good, 10 points to Ravenclaw. Would you mind coming to the front of the class please, Sean? Good, now are you ticklish?”
“Very ticklish, Professor,” Sean said squeamishly.
“It's all right,” said Professor Forren. “Here it comes. Rictusempra!” Silver lights streaked from the professor's wand and zoomed straight to Sean, who fell over in a fit of laughter.
When Sean's laughter subsided, Professor Forren said, “Now everyone pair up, and begin practicing the two spells discussed in class, NO OTHERS.” After about half and hour of practicing and an endless stream of laughter and clattering wands, Professor Forren raised her wand above her head and let a shower of orange sparks fly over the students' heads. “Alright everyone, this concludes today's lesson. Your homework is on the board. It is due by 11:59PM, December 19. I hope I may have the pleasure of teaching you again.” (hide spoiler)]

"What's wrong?" Monique asked Buddy.
"Vincent, that awful guy from Slytherin, just called me a wizard. But I'm NOT a wizard," Buddy sobbed. "I'm a WITCH!" and plopped down on the cushions beside Monique.
Aggrieved for her friend, Monique went out of the Common Room and looked for Vincent in the castle grounds. He was there with his fellow Slytherins, bullying a poor Hufflepuff.
"Hey you," Monique said. "You hurt my friend Buddy. What say you we duel right here, right now?"
With a malicious grin, Vincent broke away from his posse and fished his wand out of his robe pockets. He seemed to acquiesce to the challenge. They bowed to each other, drew their wands, raised them to their faces, and brought their wands to their sides. And then they began taking 10 paces away from each other, as a crowd of students looked on. Buddy's face suddenly appeared among the throng.
As soon as they have made the 10 paces, they turned back and turned into their stance, as taught in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class: feet spread shoulder-width apart, wands at the ready, held in front of them.
And then:
"Rectusempra!" Monique shouted.
"Relashio!" Vincent yelled.
As Vincent fell to the ground screaming with laughter, Monique's wand also fell to the ground. As soon as Buddy saw what happened to Vincent, he ran towards the latter, got out his own wand and screamed, "I'm not a wizard, I'm a witch! Rectusempra! Rectusempra until you pee in your pants!"
Even when the crowd had dissolved, Vincent was still laughing his pants off.

EC1: 1. Relashio 2. "At least this dueling lesson went better than Lockhart's years ago." Bennard said to the friends from his house. "I heard that Lockhart was really inept when Snape disarmed him. Heh."
"Where did you hear it from?" Said the Head Girl of Bennard's house
"I heard it from the Fat Friar. Despite being a ghost, he's actually a cheery chap with a lot of interesting stories. Anyway, I need to get to the library. I need to borrow some books."
As Bennard was on his way to the library, he saw a bespectacled boy, talking to a girl who looks confused. Paying no mind, Bennard continued walking towards the library when the girl, who he now recognized as Mae, he saw earlier approach him.
"Lord Aaron, wants you to give this loads of erotica to Monique over at one of the study tables in the library." Mae said, still dazed.
"Lord Aar- was that Aaron you were talking to? And did he cast a Confundus charm on you?" Bennard asked as he took the load of books off of Mae's hands and placed them on the floor.
Bennard then walked across the hall to where Aaron was secretly watching the scene.
"Oi! Did you just use the Confundus Charm on Mae?" Bennard said.
"Yes, and?" Aaron answered.
"Well, she's a nice person and what you did was mean!"
"She took my- nevermind, what are you going to do about it?"
Bennard thought for a bit and said: "I challenge you to a duel!"
"Why does this keep happening to me?!" Aaron said, "Okay, fine then."
Aaron and Bennard took their positions. They assumed the proper dueling stance and began.
As they were sizing each other, they both pointed their wands at each other and, at the same time, shouted:
"RICTUSEMPRA!"
Streaks of silver flew all over the place and a bit of havoc was being caused by the two duelers.
Madam Pince, along with a couple of students, came out of her precious library to see a pile of erotic books, her favorites, piled on the floor next to a very confused student. A few feet away were two boys, wands out, writhing on the floor and laughing. (hide spoiler)]
So you see, there's this witch named Chami and another named Buddy. They are from different houses, but I won't tell you where one is from. You can try guessing. Yes, that's it. Just guess what houses they are from. It ain't too bad to do a little participation, eh?
The professor, I forget the name but I reckon the name's got something to do with a color. So you see, this colored professor, not that she's a Negro or something, no, I don't mean to be a racist, I'm just saying that the professor's name is colored, something like blue, that's it! Professor Blue. She paired Chami and Buddy together in a dueling class, you see, for a demo. But here's the thing. These two witches are friends in the Muggle world, the human world, you know what I'm saying? But since they've been put in different houses at Hogwarts, they haven't had much time to hang out, what with all the studying and homework.
You see, they only had one common class this year, and this is the one taught by the blue professor, Professor Blue. They've been paired up, I mentioned, and although they are together in that class, they really haven't talked because they are seated away from each other. And you know how it is in Hogwarts, first years usually stick with members of the same house. So you see, when they faced each other at the dueling class, they realized that they haven't really talked for a long time. The bluish professor asked them to start the demonstration, and the two girls started laughing like the crazy witches they are. No offense there to witches, but it was real crazy laughing that they also dropped their wands on the floor. The other students got confused because they cannot reckon who casted what. Is it possible that they casted the tickling and releasing spells at the same time, they probably asked themselves. It could be, but first years aren't expected to do that, unless one is a super prodigy. But Chami and Buddy aren't prodigies like Angus, you see, the famous witch who is now writing a book on a series of modern charms.
Anyway, the professor, keeping whatever's left of her cool, informed the class that no charm was casted. She added that these two girls were just laughing, no charming or whatever. She gently prodded the two girls to go out of the room and have a chat at the courtyard, and slipped each of them a corridor pass in case other professors ask them why they aren't at class.

(view spoiler)[ 1. Relashio 2. Meliza and Lynai were doing their Defense Against the Dark Arts homework at the library.
"I'll just check for some books in the Muggles Section. I still need to think on how to answer the part two of the homework," said Lynai.
"Okay, can I copy your answers?" Meliza asked, grinning.
"Look after you've finished yours, just to check. How will you learn? Haha." answered Lynai.
After a while, Lynai came back to their desk where Meliza was still doing her homework.
"Meliza! Look at this. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell," Lynai said, waving the book in front of Meliza's face.
"I've read something about that book back home. That won the Best Young Adult Fiction at the Goodreads Choice Awards 2013! Give it to me, I'm going to read it. Haha." Meliza said, grabbing the book.
"But I found it first, I'll just give it to you after I've finished," Lynai said to Meliza as she got the book back and sat beside her.
"But Lynai, I want to complete reading all of her works already! As in soon..." Meliza said.
"I have an idea, let's do a friendly duel. Whoever wins will read the book first. Also, so that we could practice our lessons in Defense Against The Dark Arts," Lynai said still holding the book firmly.
"Okay, let's duel in the other room?" answered Meliza.
They packed their stuff and went to the other empty room. They asked two other students to be their second. They bowed to each other, drew and raised their wands to salute, and made a slashing motion across their body, then brought their wand to their side.
"Let's do this!" Lynai said while turning around and then taking 10 paces back. Both turned into their stance.
"Rictusempra!" shouted Lynai. Meliza jumped to the right so she was barely hit by the spell. Still, she was somehow giggling while struggling to hold her wand.
"Relashio!" countered Meliza. Lynai's wand got out from her grasp and was sent rattling on the floor. "I won!" Meliza said while still giggling.
"I should have used the Italian grip, you know. I could have aimed on you better. You should have been ROTFL. Haha."
"That's okay, you can still read the book when I'm doing something else," Meliza told Lynai as they walked towards the Great Hall for dinner. (hide spoiler)]
2) One fine morning, I was practicing my magic skills. I preferred to perfect the 'Aguamenti' spell. I casted the said spell for the third time, and finally, it was perfect. Pansy Parkinson, however, walked towards me while I just casted the spell. She was wet from head to toe, well, from what I saw. Her ebony eyebrows knitted and her eyes looked sharply at me.
"Why did you do that for?", she asked.
"I'm sorry. I was just-"
"Shut up! You're going to regret this" she said.
She raised her wand and directly pointed at me.
"Rictuse-"
"Relashio", I said.
Pansy let go of her wand. So I grab the opportunity to run.
sorry, I'm not good with this & my mind's not working =.=

EC: 1. Relashio 2. (view spoiler)[ By some stroke of luck, Mae was able to find a way to attend the TFG Christmas party thanks to a kind wizard who was willing to lend her a Nimbus 2000. She was already very late and was willing her broom to go just a little bit faster.
By the time she got there, dinner was over and people were already having dessert. Mae panicked and immediately scanned the table for the one thing she didn't want to miss - Tina's revel bars. To her relief, there was one piece left. She immediately ran over to grab the treat but, alas, someone got to it first. Aaron.
"Stop!" Mae shouted. "That's mine!"
"You;re going to have to fight me for it," Aaron said.
Mae and Aaron both whipped our their wands. They stared at each other for a moment, sizing each other up. A minute passes. And then...
"Relashio!"
Aaron's eyes widen as he drops the prized revel bar. Before it lands on the ground, Mae waves her wand again for a quick and dirty summoning charm. Within moments, the yummy treat is safe in her hand.
"MAEEEEEEE!!!!" Aaron's anguished protest reverberated across the room. "This is not over yet!"
Before Mae can run off with her treat, Aaron raised his wand and yelled, "Rictusempra!"
There was a pause while everyone waited to see what would happen. Mae smiled and said, "I'm not ticklish when I'm hungry." She then took a big bite out of her revel bar and walked away.

"I still have a couple of pages to go and then I'm done. You know what? I think Rainbow Rowell is my new favorite author, and I think Park is my new bookish crush!" she exclaimed.
"Alright, finish it soon! The book's been with you for 2 weeks now!" I quipped. "Anyway, are you done with our Defense Against The Dark Arts homework? I still have to master the Italian grip."
"What say you, we duel again?"
"Sure, why not. Let's go outside to the field."
The field was empty when we got there, which was just as good. I didn't want others to see how clumsy I was with my wand. We started with the preliminaries and practiced the stance. I was still struggling to hold my wand, which seemed to have a mind of its own. And then suddenly I heard Meliza shout:"RICTUSEMPRA!"
I looked at her and grinned. "Have you forgotten, I'm not ticklish? Here's for you: "RICTUSEMPRA!" and pointed my wand at her, which, amazingly, did not fall out from my hands.
"I did it, I did it, I finally knew how to do the Italian grip!" I said happily. But I all I heard was laughter. When I looked at Meliza, she was already lying on the ground with her hands crossed over her body, tears streaming down her face, and laughing, laughing, laughing… (hide spoiler)]

2. After an exhausting day of school work, Tin proceeded to the Great Hall for dinner. When she came in, the place was already bustling with students. She went directly to her table and spotted one last treacle tart left, her favorite treat. “Score!” Tin said. She reached out one grubby, greedy hand after it, only to have another hand shot out from the opposite direction, making a grab for the same treat. “Hey, this is mine!” Tin yelled. “Oh, I don’t think so!” a girl yelled back. “I saw it first!” “No, I saw it first!” It went back and forth like that until both decided to settle things once and for all in a DUEL. They sneaked out of the great hall into a secluded area, did the requisite salute, walked away in opposite directions and positioned themselves into the stance.”Relashio!” A wand clattered to the ground...no, make that, two wands. Tin and the girl looked at each other and then burst out laughing. Evenly matched. “You can have the tart, buddy,” said Tin. “Nah, it’s all yours pal,” said the girl. “I insist my fast friend, you must have it,” said Tin. “How about we split it, my good ol’ chum?” said the girl. “Okay then, I agree to that,” said Tin. And so they ate each of their treacle tart halves together, and nothing in the world ever tasted so good. Then the heavens opened up, angels with harps descended down to the tune of Randy Newman’s You've Got A Friend.
“You've got troubles and I've got 'em too There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you We stick together and see it through

After being beaten by Monique in a duel and Mae stealing his food, Vincent is in a very bad mood. A very bad, storm-clouds-over-his-head kind of mood. He was just brooding in one corner of the Great Hall. He needed to fetch a book from the library to work on in his homework which is due is 6 hours but he had no inclination to go there. Then he spotted Mae about to leave the hall. A plan formed in his mind.
"Oi, Mae!" he called. Mae switch directions and walked towards him.
"What?"
"Can we practice the spell Forren taught us earlier?" he asked.
"Expelliarmus?"
"Yeah, I just want to see how quick I can say it in a duel. Quite a mouthful for a spell that you need to disarm your foe, don't you think?"
Mae agreed to practice and both assumed the dueling stance. They bowed, drew their wand and raised it to their faces. They walked 10 paces away from each other. Mae started to point her wand.
"Expe---"
"Confundo!"
Vincent is a mischievous student, you see, and he likes reading ahead of the class. He learned this spell two days ago and was itching to try it on someone. Mae didn't finish and spell but instead hid her wand in her bag. He beckons her forward.
"Borrow the A Study in Foreign Wizarding Literature by Steven Abrams for me," he commanded. Mae started for the door. He spotted Monique in a nearby table surrounded by her fellow Ravenclaws. "Wait, I also need you to find as many erotic novels in the library as you can find. Loads of them. So many you can't bring it yourself. Check it out using Monique's name and find the nearest gentleman and asked him to deliver it to her. Tell him that to tell Monique that these are the books she reserved from the library. Do this quick while she's still in here."
"Is that all?" she asked.
"Yeah. Snap to!"
"Okay," she said.
"My lord. You call me my lord," he commanded
"Okay, my lord."
Mae hurriedly proceeded to follow his directions.
Vincent smirked. Storm clouds over his head are gone. There is justice in the world.

Unfortunately, other students from other Houses found a loophole in it which caused mass hysteria. Muggles were being seen wandering around Hogwarts, performing said House task. To stop the mass hysteria and prevent Goodreads, I mean Hogwarts, from shutting down, Prof. Blue decided to hold a dueling contest to determine the winner of the House task. This dueling contest has one rule - the only spell allowed was Rictusempra,. Being first year students, a lot were not familiar with said spell. Despite this fact, a lot of students volunteered to join. Gwaxa, having a tendency to go OC, has read about the spell and practiced casting it. The day of the contest came and the contestants were milling about in the Great Hall waiting for Prof. Blue. Gwaxa, aside from being OC also has this naughty streak, started to cast Rictusempra to everybody. Anyone who saw silver lights streaking straight to them eventually fell over in fits of laughter. When Prof. Blue finally came to the Great Hall, everybody, except the very naughty Gwaxa, was rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. Prof. Blue, immediately realizing who the suspect was, cast Rictusempra on the wayward student. (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)](hide spoiler)](hide spoiler)](hide spoiler)]
