The Dewey Decimal Challenge - 2014
http://classify.oclc.org/classify2/Here's a website I used a lot for last year challenge.
You can find which code is usually assigned to one book. So you can also go through your to be read section and see what Dewey code come out.
I have finished 3/10 now:600-699: Technology:
Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex
100 Diagrams That Changed the World: From the Earliest Cave Paintings to the Innovation of the iPod
700-799: Arts:
Relish: My Life in the Kitchen
900-999: History
Coming Clean
(my library has this as 973... it doesn't seem to fit the category though...?)
That's the most frequent classification for that book (973). But it is sometime put under 921. Either way it's in the 900s.

That looks great! My library has it categorized under biography (921), but I can see how it fits under journalism (070). I may end up playing fast and loose with my library's cataloging :)
I finished my first non-fiction read this year: It was really interesting, it makes you rethink your preconceived ideas of bisexuality, homosexuality, or activism... and it gives you new words to speak about your sexuality. When journalists write history books, they sometimes have a really hard time disassociating themselves from the story they are uncovering, and it just get awkward. A really good example of that is with The Fallen Sky: An Intimate History of Shooting Stars - the details he adds about his own life are just bizarre and have no real bearing on the plot of the actual story. I think Miles Harvey managed to avoid that with this book. He added parts of his own personal journey, but it actually felt like it added to the story instead of being awkwardly juxtaposed to the main plot.
I can recommend this one for sure.

Audrey wrote: "Wow, Daphne, only one more to go. Good Job!!! Which of your books has been your favorite so far?"I read a lot of non fiction. This is my easy challenge lol.
My favorite from this list is probably The Believing Brain: From Ghosts and Gods to Politics and Conspiracies How We Construct Beliefs and Reinforce Them as Truths by Michael Shermer. I'm a loud and proud skeptic, and I have always enjoyed reading articles written by Shermer. It was nice to read a whole book from him.
I also enjoyed The Island of Lost Maps: A True Story of Cartographic Crime by Miles Harvey. Even though it made me angry lots, and I wanted to throw it across the room several times. RESPECT the BOOK!
They both sound good. I love reading Non-fiction as well. I have already read 3 biography/memoir books this year and will likely read several more. I also love anything history and read lots of Christian Non-Fiction. My favorite authors right now are Beth Moore, Elizabeth George, Elisabeth Elliot, and Gary L. Thomas. I am planning on reading 20+ Christian Non-fiction this year as part of the Listopia Challenge. Should be fun for me at least. But I so have trouble with genre challenges. I am not much into sci-fi, fantasy, thriller/horror, contemporary romance, or paranormal books. So its always hard for me to find books for challenges that include those types of books. I try to find Christian fiction to fit them but then that is usually something considered YA. So I just love being able to do a Non-fiction only challenge. Daphne, Good luck on your last book for this challenge.
