Katharina | 14 comments I read the books when I was about ten or eleven years old and loved them. They got me seriously interested in history.

The books are loosely connected and tell the story of the women of one German family. I think the first one played during WW1 or the time leading up to it. The second book certainly played during the time of the national-socialists and the third during the fall of the Berlin wall. A painting of one of the women or young girls, she had red hair, made in the first book is passed done through the family even after they forgot the story behind it and its connecting the third book to the first two which are closer intertwined because a lot of the characters of the first book play a role in the second one although they are not centre stage.

Longshot for the third book, Freya on the Wall? I can't tell if it's part of a series.

"Fourteen-year-old Freya, whose home has always been in East Germany, offers her view of the complex events leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall."

CLM | 311 comments Do you have a sense of the author's nationality? I wondered if this book was a possibility but doesn't seem to be part of a trilogy: Second Fiddle (I am putting on reserve, however).

CLM | 311 comments Any chance it could be by Leonard Deighton or Philip Kerr? Both have written trilogies set during this time frame with female characters.

Katharina | 14 comments I don't know the authors nationality but I think it was written by a woman.

This is written by a man, but the Wall trilogy by Robert Elmer? The first one is: Candy Bombers is set in 1948, the last one: Smuggler's Treasure is set in 1989.

Katharina | 14 comments Not the one I'm looking for, but it sounds interesting. I may read it sometime.
The last book is in the right time but the first two of the ones I'm looking for play earlier. The second book certainly plays in the 1930s during the beginning of the Nazi regime.

Possibly Judith Kerr's Out of the Hitler Time series, starting with: When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit

and ending with:
A Small Person Far Away

(BTW, I loved the first book when I was a kid and didn't know until now that there are more!)

Katharina | 14 comments I too read Kerr's series when I was a kid but I have those books at home so... not the ones I'm looking for but they are quite similar. It's definitely a step in the right direction.

Thanks for all the help I received so far! :)

Katharina, are there other locations besides Germany? (e.g., London/Britain, U.S., Canada)

Katharina | 14 comments No. The whole series takes place in Berlin.

Wow you searched for a long time.

Well I am a stubborn bastard. But in the end I found it, so it was worth it.

I remember I was looking for a book and I remembered the plot and the cover but not the name or author and I stumped all the librarians in the library...and then I looked up on a shelf next to me and found it haha!

The trilogy was named "Ein Haus in Berlin" by Waldtraud Lewin. I`m not sure it is available in english.
