Ooooh, good one!
I agree with the Victorian Thompson series. This is one of the few mystery series that I have never tired of. It's not a silly cozy read and I believe she is on # 14 of her series.
Joann, I still like some "cozy" reads, but most of them get up my nose with the totally over-the-top interfering heroine who always knows what's right for everyone and won't leave well enough alone. Not to mention the nosy townsfolk who always abound in these stories and spend their time minding everyone's business!

I would have to say I vote for either of these authors.
Thanks to Joannetork for nominating Dick Francis! He is a top favorite of mine. Nice choice! I'm going to nominate another one of my favorite authors.
Rita Mae Brown. Her books are probably considered "cozy" mysterys, she has written several stand alone books and one series (Sneaky Pie Brown mystery series). Her books, in my opinion, are only "cozy" in that the mysterys are solidly in the fast paced page turners that are "compelling" & "engaging". They are great fun to read without being up the nose over the top mysterys, I think. Besides, they are meant to be engaging fun mixed with a very real mystery plot. AKA "Cozy" right.? Check.... Outfoxed & Wish You Were Here.
I've been wandering around thinking that Laine Moriarty doesn't really write crime or thrillers as such so changed what is laughingly called My Mind these days LOL

Scott Turow
Hard to name one. You've probably already done Henning Mankell, whose Wallender novels are among the best mysteries around. So how about the Icelander Arnaldur Indridason, probably best known for Jar City, but whose The Draining Lake is a heartbreaking examination of a cold case and an old story of domestic violence. And he has written at least 5 novels (per the rules laid out by Donna)
Cyn (RaeWhit) wrote: "P.D. James"Make that another vote for P D James.....well it would be if I could nominate two!
