jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments You know a book is bad when you often put the book down and take a break from it. This is something rare for me, but right now experiencing it as I'm reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I wasn't a big fan of that book. I didn't get it the way some people do.

Espcially when in the beginning, they describe her as "Average looking, unpopular and clumsy"

So true. Why not write it straight to the point that she is beyond beautiful? XD.

Sorry to say but I'm thinking of you Ethereal (Celestra, #1) by Addison Moore

Abbie wrote:I've read all of those.
I enjoyed HON until about book 8. They've been pretty awful since then.

I have the same opinion. But each time a new book comes out, I feel obliged to read it, because I don't like to leave a book series once I've read at least 2 books. And even though sometimes I read pieces of the book and I think, I really like this character, the fact that it just doesn't end, upsets me.

Its addictive isn't it. You feel like you need to read the next one even though its awful. I've ended up reading whole series that were rubbish because I kept thinking it would get better.

message 112: by Inês (new)

Inês | 583 comments Yes! And I just have to know how it will end. I mean I've spend so much of my time reading all the books and I want to read the end of it.

message 113: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
You just have to hope that the ending is worth it!

I just finished the last book and when I started making a rough draft of my review, I realized that I'm feed up with the characters. I just want the series to end already! And I'm so sick of everyone switching sides! Ugh. Plus I'm tired of the little reminders scattered throughout the books. Normally I like that, but for heaven's sake we're on book eleven, quit wasting my time reminding me of what already happened and wrap it up already! Ok, rant over. Lol

message 117: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Matthew I agree! Ohmygosh. It's like the character just seems like a cardboard cut-out 'cause readers would find her unbelievable.

message 118: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Sarah Yeah. I don't understand why others like it. I guess it's about taste. I heard that the movie is so much better tho.

message 119: by Tayla (new)

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) | 3057 comments You know a book is bad when you get halfway through and still have no idea who anyone is or whats going on.

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin

message 120: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments You know a book is bad when you read the summary and you pretty much know what's going to happen and how it's going to end. A lot of the "pop fiction" books here in the Philippines are like that. -.-

message 121: by Tayla (new)

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) | 3057 comments You know a book is bad when events from the book were in other books

The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa

message 122: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Savannah Have never read Noli Me Tangere before. Is it good?

It's just that pop fiction books here are all supposed to be like realistic and romance YA but they just lack the depth to be considered YA (to me, at least). They're really famous around some of my friends, but whenever I read the summary on the back cover, I can already predict the outcome. :/

message 123: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Savannah Since you're a Filipino, you might recognize them. Like "Diary ng Panget", "Secretly Married", "The Bet", "548 Heartbeats", etc.

message 124: by Tris (new)

Tris | 678 comments You know a book is bad when you can here all the background noise in the room. You should be buried inside of a good book.

message 125: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Tris Can relate. When I'm reading I never get bothered by noises, except when I'm not exactly enjoying the book.

message 126: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Savannah Yeah, I heard that DnP is better than the other local YA books. They ARE suckish. xD

message 127: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments I'm a Filipino, too, and as much as possible I steer away from books that came from Wattpad. Very judgmental, I know. :/

message 128: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Mei The local published "Wattpad books" (as they call it) are all cliche and don't really deserve to be called YA books. But some Wattpad stories are pretty nice. I tend to read them when I run out of books (and money to buy them).

message 129: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments I agree, they are cliched. The characters were also unbelievable and stereotyped, too. Well, some.

hahahaha!

message 131: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments I've read "The Bet" and "Secretly Married". The prose was fine, keeps you hooked to the story. But I can just predict every move they'd make. And yes, I agree about the characters! In "Secretly Married", I got so confused about Phoebe's feelings. She said she has no feelings for her husband and then she gets all jealous when her husband flirts with some other girl and she's all like "but he has a wife blah blah blah". And then in "The Bet", Drake has the stereotype bad boy "tsundere", which means he's only a bad boy outside and a softie inside. Ugh.

message 132: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Jamira, what year are you now? I take it you're not yet a junior HS since you haven't read Noli?

message 133: by jam (new)

I read that one about 2 weeks ago, and i agree. :( I used to really like Stevie rae until about book 6.
I liked a couple of the other characters too, but book 11 just wrecked it. I can't wait until the the next book comes out.. just because it's the last one!

message 136: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments You know a book is bad when its movie version is sooo much better.

Inês | 583 comments Abbie wrote: I read that one about 2 weeks ago, and i agree. :( I used to really like Stevie rae until about book 6...

The last one I read was book 10, because I read all HON books translated in my language, seeing that I can actually wait for the next book to be translated, and book 11 hasn't yet. But I seriously want book 12 to finally come out because I demand an ending!! :)

Jamira wrote: You know a book is bad when its movie version is sooo much better.

I've seen all Lord of the Rings movies and they are amazing so I thought I should give the book a try, but I just can't finish reading it, it's so boring, maybe it will get better but I can't reach that point, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it was written in 1954...

message 138: by Tati (new)

Tati The thing with LOTR, for me, is that in the book, the characters (especially Legolas) are very childlike. And in the movie, they're not, which is why the movies are better.

message 139: by Inês (new)

Inês | 583 comments Legolas is one of my favorite characters, along with Aragorn and Arwen. I guess I'm not finishing the book so soon then, I like the way the characters are portrayed in the movies.

I watched the movie and I really liked it. I wanted to know what happens next so at some point I'd like to read them, but the books aren't very high up in my TBR pile right now.
