MountainKat | 31598 comments It looks like all of the shorter ones I was thinking of you have read already. But I found several, maybe one will look good for you. I think I can loan you most of these too. ; ) Some of them are seasonal, I don't know, you might be burned out on that but I included them anyway. Most of the others I found were in the middle of the series.

Bear, Otter, and the Kid
It Had to Be You which is great, especially in audio
In Bed with a Highlander
All She Wants For Christmas
A Present in Swaddling Clothes
Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor
Secrets of a Summer Night

Fran | 12278 comments Thanks Kat!

But for this challenge there is a 125 page minimum. I have a few I would read on my shelves that are shorter, but I can't use them :(

I will check out the ones on your list that are 125 pages or longer :)

message 53: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I've got a few on my shelves I could use....

Can't Help Falling In Love
Let Me Be the One
Come A Little Bit Closer
In Bed With The Boss

Thanks again Kat! I just can't decide what I'm in the mood for. I have a few books to get through for other challenges first, and then I will decide :)

Hi Jane!

Yes, you can join in now and read the alternate books for Dec. and Jan. :)

Just make sure to post each title you read in a category so that you won't use that category in future months.

Welcome to the challenge and have fun!

message 58: by Jane (new)

Jane | 548 comments Thank you Fran, I will join in the other thread a bit later today.

I hope you are enjoying the challenge!

I know! Where did January go?? I just started my January read for this challenge today. I thought I had more time, lol.

message 65: by Krisden (new)

Krisden | 45 comments Question - and I'm sorry if this has already been addressed...

The rules state you can only complete one task per month. If you started your task for December but didn't finish until January, can that still count towards December? Or, would it count as two tasks completed in January (December and January)?

thanks!

Hi Kristen!

Great question! Thanks for asking it, I will update the rules post above with the answer :)

If you didn't complete your task for a specific month, in this case, December, then you cannot use it for January or any other month. You must complete the task that is meant for that specific month within that month.

But....I will allow that you may use the alternate task for the month you didn't complete and make it up during the next month.

For example....

If you don't complete December's task in time, when it is time to roll for January, you can roll, complete the task you rolled for, and complete the alternate task for December and it will count for December. You will be completing two new tasks for January and you may count one for December. Unfortunately, the book you didn't finish in December doesn't count for this challenge. Hopefully you can fit it into another challenge!

Susan A | 2160 comments Alternate Task:

Let's say I try for a Lg straight and don't get it. I use the alternate task. DO I just put this in the Large Straight position? It doesn't seem equal -- lg straight is 4 books of same genre, alternate task this month is one book....

I can use the alternate task over and over if I get unlucky with my rolls?

message 68: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Susan A!

You may try for a large straight and end up with a small straight. You may end up with nothing that fits. You never know. If you don't have a place for your roll, you should use the 'Chance' spot. Once the 'Chance' spot is filled, you can use an alternate task if you can't fit your roll anywhere. The tasks will vary, and some months will be harder.

I see your point, and I guess it could be easier for some participants who get very unlucky with their rolls and have to use their alternate task frequently. But they will vary and some with have several books to read.

So far my first two months have been 5's (which I could have used for 3 of a kind, so I actually had two choices for that roll) and large straight (which could have gone in the small straight spot if the lg straight spot was already taken.)

It isn't perfectly fair, but I was trying to make it fun and trying to keep the most participants interested and in it each month.

message 71: by ilona (new)

ilona (svaubajkama) Hi everyone :)
I would like to join this challenge, but cause I discovered it kinda late, do I have first to read alternative tasks for Dec and Jan, and then I can go on? Or I can start from February and those two months to make up any time?

message 72: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi ilona!

Welcome to the challenge! You will need to read a task for Dec., Jan and Feb. all in February. Please use the alternate tasks for Dec. and Jan. and you can roll for February, you are right on time for next month :)

message 73: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments Just to be clear, there is a 125pg min except for the novella category where anything under 125pg counts?

message 76: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I have to use my 'chance' this month. I didn't realize how difficult is was going to be for me to fit in a new author and have it be 125 pages or more.

I finally started it and so far it's really good....kinky, different good. America's Darlings America's Darlings by Gail Bridges

I think I remember seeing the 26th somewhere...let me check to be sure.

EDIT: Yes, it's in the newsletter that it's the 26th this month.

message 79: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Yes - 26th this month - 2 days before month-end and 2 days after. At least, that's how I'm working it until Fran tells me otherwise ;)

message 82: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2160 comments Oh no! I just now realized that in December I used a book that is too short.

I rolled 3 4s and used the 3 of a kind spot. Can I just delete that and use the 4s (4 word title) spot? I have a list of books I read in December and one fits.

Alternately, I read another book in Feb that is long enough for the 3 of a kind author.

Hi Susan!

Yes, if you read another one that month that fits, you can definitely change the title and the location :)

You can't use the Feb. book to fill the Dec. slot though.

message 84: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2160 comments Great. I'll change that.

Shan ~A~ | 1830 comments Didn't finish my feb book(s). I say above that I could read the alt for feb in march plus march tasks. So I made my march roll today. thanks.

message 86: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Everyone!

It's time to roll for your April task! Please make sure to roll some time between today and April 2nd.

Here is the April Alternative Task if you need it. The task can also be found in message #4 in this thread.

April Alternate Task- Read one book set in a country you do not live in and read one book set in a place you would like to visit (can be near your hometown or not).

message 87: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2160 comments I have to do the alternate task this month. I've already used the chance and my rolls don't fit elsewhere.

How to I mark it? Do I just pick one of the slots I haven't filled yet, like large straight, for example, and mark it as an alternate task? Or, does it just go at the bottom, after CHance?

message 88: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Susan A!

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner!

You can choose any open task you have and just mark it 'alternative task used' or something like that.

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Everyone!

June Alternate Task -

Read one book that has been on your tbr for over 6 months and
read one book that has been on your tbr for less than 6 months. If your tbr is newer than 6 months, read one of the 5 oldest titles on your tbr.

message 93: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1064 comments Quick question, for three of a kind, we are to read 3 books by the same author. Is it ok if the book is co-written by the author? e.g. Control is written by C. Cardeno and Mary Calmes. Can I use it if I am reading books by Mary Calmes?

message 94: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Teresa!
Yes, co - author is fine :)

message 95: by Fran, Moderator (new)
