It was definitely somehthing worth reading, the concept was really innovative and interesting. And I am excited for the movie too! Especially because of Dylan O'brien :D

I am glad I am not the only one who isn't fond of that particular movie adaptation.

message 560: by Adriana (new)

Adriana | 3888 comments I thought City of Bones was alright. It's kind of what I expected based off other books to movies. Why can't they all be as good as the HP series?

Dana (elkins_88) | 458 comments I finished my 6th one a few days ago- Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

message 565: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 9th selection - Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I love Tudor/Elizabethan English history and really appreciated the story being told from Cromwell's perspective. It was the writing that I had difficulty with in this book. The author writes from Cromwell's perspective, but not in the first or true third person. It made it confusing to figure out who was speaking. Other than that, it was an interesting read and I'll be continuing with the series. Worth reading. 4 stars

9/10

message 566: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 27 comments I completely agree with you Megan I am 25%ish through Wolf Hall and that's the exact same reason I am struggling with it and I too love anything Tudor England based

Stick with it because it is worth it! I read the last half of the book in one day which made the weird perspective much more understandable.

Jodi, that's a good idea, but I decided to go ahead and read it now while I remember it. We'll have to wait a year or two anyway for book 3. I checked online, and he's still writing it! What did you think of the first book?

You will have to let me know how you liked it. I really enjoyed the first book. I found it to be really creative, imaginative and dark. All things I love in a book.

message 578: by Chloé (last edited Jul 28, 2014 11:41AM) (new)

Chloé (fullmetalclo) | 573 comments I've finished A Game of Thrones. I've just watch all HBO seasons this spring, before reading the book. The book is really good, so as is the TV shows, but it is quite similar, so it was hard to keep my attention to it, to read it fast enough and it is a big book, though the smallest of the five. So if you saw the show and you liked it, I would recommend the book, but you should put a bit of distance between both or you'll get bored, maybe. I do read book after show and movie quite often, but it is the first time, it is so similar that I could devour it fast. I certainly didn't expect that, I've watch True Blood which is also an HBO show, and I've read the books, and it is quite different, but it's not like that with this show, well not for the first season and first book.

12/13 Completed

What I read so far
Life of Pi by Yann Martel 5★ The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger 4★ And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini 4★ Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt 5★ The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith 5★ The Help by Kathryn Stockett 5★ The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern 5★ Beauty Queens by Libba Bray 4★ Please Look After Mom by Shin Kyung-sook 4★ How I Came to Sparkle Again by Kaya McLaren 5★ A House in the Sky by Amanda Lindhout 5★ A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin 5★

I would like to suggest some fun Non-Fiction. Welcome Kadijah Michelle! You can always try again when updating the list.

message 584: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 581 comments Update - I'm at 14/18

I've recently finished:
- Joyland by Stephen King - 3.5 stars - not scary, but not as good as the only other of his books that I've read, 11/22/63 (also not scary). I'm interested to try more, it's just a matter of not choosing the bone-chilling ones he's written!
- The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith(aka J.K. Rowling) - 3.5 stars - not as well-written as The Casual Vacancy, but the characters are more likeable. Am keen to read the next, The Silkworm
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - 4.5 stars - another powerful book by Hosseini about life in Afghanistan over an extended time period. Heart-breaking at times, but interesting to get a glimpse into a different world and to see how politics can affect day-to-day living.

message 587: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 11th selection - Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel. I enjoyed this second book - much better than the first. While Mantel still employs the same odd wording style, the writing was much easier to read and not quite as confusing. Definitely worth reading and cannot wait for the next book! 4.5 stars

11/10

Did you read "the eyes of the dragon" it´s not scary. It's a tale he wrote for his daughters or something like that. If you like fantastic medieval you might like this one.

No, I haven't, Chloé - I've looked through his list of books before and don't even recall seeing that one, but he's so prolific, it would be easy to not take all of them in! To be honest, it doesn't really sound like my kind of thing, but sometimes it's good to try things out of your comfort zone, so maybe I'll give it a try at some point! Besides, I do need a dragon for one of my challenges and I'm not exactly falling over any dragons in the books I normally choose to read!

Merja (merjafrob) | 488 comments I just re-checked the listopia book list and noticed that I have read seven (7) books from it! But can I count all those towards my goal because only one of them was in my original plan?

If it's ok, then I've completed my challenge by reading 7 books instead of 5 planned..
