I believe I read this somewhere between 1983 and 1985. It was definitely prior to 1988.

The lead character was female. A medical breakthrough had created a generation of children who had exceptionally long life spans and needed to be protected from others in society who resented this. There was either a school or a space station involved where children were being sent.

I could be slightly off on any of this information because, you know, we're talking 25 to 30 years ago.
