Did Twilight give you weird dreams? Did you dream that you were a vampire and Edward fell in love with you? Does reading affect our dreams?

Adrienne Doing a scientific research paper for my writing class in college, and I would love for any responses considering this topic. Thanks so much! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1_7pE...

Kristen I can't say that I ever dreamt that...but I definitely incorporate what I read or watch into my dreams. I have a crazy dream life though, lol

Usually when I'm really into something - like say reading an entire series in a couple of days - I will have super specific dreams about that series.
I was reading the Harry Potters for the second time or something and I absolutely despise that Sirius dies and well, I dreamt he was to me what he is to Harry and he died and I was practically crying in my dream. lol It was really upsetting...

Kristen I took the survey. Good luck with me, haha

Adrienne thanks!

Susan Botes Hi Adrienne

I took your survey

Good luck

Mochaspresso I think that real life experiences tend to affect my dreams more than reading does. So does eating spicy foods and drinking wine too late at night, to be honest.

Deep If you give it too much thought, say you are obsessed with something then you might dream about it, whether it is a book or any real life incidence.
In my experience, I often dream of coding/logic if I had have a busy day doing programming.
And there are other similar scenarios.

Took the survey.

Adrienne Thanks everyone!

Jennifer Took your survey, hope you enjoy my dream. Good luck :)

Courtney Lee Took your survey.

Most of the time if I dream about a certain books its because I'm obsessed with it and I think about it often

Deep @Adrienne: Make sure you share your survey here. :)

Cassidy I took the survey... Good luck with my answers xD

hope this will help you with your paper!

April I filled it out. I hope this helps you with your paper for school.

message 15: by Robert (new)

Robert I took the survey, but the one important question not asked is what you felt before you went to sleep. Were you tired or did you go to bed because "it was time" to sleep? Did you fall asleep reading or watching TV in bed? There are sleep specialists who study this in detail and I would love to hear on of them discuss the impact of pre-sleep activities on dreaming.

Maryam not at all parts
but in some Thriller and Sensitive part YES

message 17: by Ruth (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ruth I was reading the part in the Twilight series when Bella is pregnant , and my friend was pregnant at the same time . I dreamt my friend had a similar baby to Bella's. The little girl was born and within 1 month she was running around with long hair etc, looking like a toddler! Freaky dream....

Sharon Wheater That didnt happen for me but when I am writing it does work like that, the only movies or books that bother me are horrors but thats because I am a wimp lol. They give me terrible nightmares :)

April @Sharon I agree with you. I can't read or watch scary movies because then I have weird nightmares and barely get any sleep for the next few nights. Don't worry- you aren't the only wimp here lol

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, reading affects our dreams. Sometimes book characters turn up in my dreams.

message 21: by Deep (new) - rated it 2 stars

Deep @Sharon, you wrote "but when I am writing it does work like that".
Exactly, 'cause you could never be as obsessed with something when learning (lets say reading) as in creating (say writing) something.

Annisa UuU Yeah it is really true. The fact is, Stephenie Meyer also get idea of twilight from dream right? :D

I totally agree, when i watch some films, read books, i dont get engrossed as much as i do when writing, my characters will invade my head sometimes when i am doing something....which i though i was going mad...to be told its normal.....and i will get inspiration, very strange, but also as Katumbria said, things come to you in dreams and daydreams.

Yeah I also agree with Sharon argument, writing is a way to solve the problem, it could be a great way to record at least the memory means. Stephenie Meyer did, and we can read the story of her dream. Yes, I had a dream like that, that there is someone who likes me, and we cuddle each other, may be the same as in the twilight did. LOL. Just got dream like that after read twilight.

I ever thought that it was true, even after I woke up, what we are doing in the dream it feels really real. it makes me ashamed that person face in my dreams is the same person as one of my classmates. Not my crush, but charming and mysterious. (just share a little story, too bad it is just because I read twilight and it affects my dream and it is only dream, but nice dream)

message 25: by Deep (new) - rated it 2 stars

Deep @Sharon: Yea, and maybe the dreams have something to do with the amount of brain you are using. I mean, of course you would use more of your brain in writing than in reading, then the thoughts might keep on hanging there in the subconscious and then when you are a bit restless in your sleep they appear in front, as a dream, or something like that.

message 26: by Deep (new) - rated it 2 stars

Deep @Katumbiria: Maybe you should start writing about it, if you feel like it and you think you can.

And since it has come to this, let me share the dream-experience of my kind-of-ex-girlfriend. She used to dream a lot (I don't know if she still does), and a classmate of ours was there in every single dream of hers. She hadn't had a crush on him, I can assure that, they were just usual class-buddies. She wasn't obsessed with him or anything but still there he was in every single dream.
I know it is kind of weird and hard to believe, but I see no reason why she would be lying about that.

And yea, you could induce this little piece of idea in your story if you ever happen to write it. :)

Sharon Wheater Dreams can be the most wonderful and the most terrifying thing for a human to experience, especially those that feel so real, hard to awaken from, its your brains way of processing information and filing it, but wow can it have the strangest effects on you lol.
Psychological effects from nightmares can terrify you from wanting to sleep and those wonderful ones can really make you want to fall back into them but if we have those dreams and you are that terrified or you enjoyed it so much then utilize what your brain is giving you and put it in words, one never knows, it could be something everyone would enjoy, just as Stephanie Myers did, would love to make her money lol!!!!

miriam Yes, if I'm obsessing over the book a lot and thinking about it, it will usually affect my dreams. When I was obsessed with Twilight, I had a few dreams about it. I remember one and it was about Edward. I was "Bella" and Edward took me on his back and we raced up the trees.

I hope so if i have capacity and talent to write there, it is just being my memory to remember.

But it is not bad dream right, after you read twilight. It is often nice dream to remember :D

Yeaaah, i wonder how Stephenie Meyer dreams affect her life, and her inspiration. And I also wonder how the host is made, is it also influenced by her dream or not. Just little curious ......

message 32: by Feliks (new)

Feliks Skew. The audience who reads 'Twilight' would have weird dreams no matter what they read.

No, I never had a bad dream! :)

miriam Feliks wrote: "Skew. The audience who reads 'Twilight' would have weird dreams no matter what they read."

That's true. I never quite understand my dreams.

message 35: by Paul (new) - rated it 1 star

Paul Harmon No but it game me nightmares that a hack writer whose grasp on writing actually borders on criminal, would destroy vampire mythos forever, create an army of brainwashed teeny bopper girls and pedophile adults who would make bad life decisions based on horrible cardboard characters(Twi-moms...so gross...Seriously WTH is wrong with you?)and create a whole zeitgeist based on something that is as ignorant as reality TV, The Kardashian girls and fixed talent competition shows and then I woke up and realized ...Dreams do come true...

Gerd See, see, Paul of Tharsus is back. Risen like Lazarus, it seems to me. :)

Paul Harmon My Lord god sent me forth to seek out and preach to the weak of mind Gerd, the masses under the influence of dumb forces, those too damaged to see the light. I can not ignore my divine quest. I shall not rest until the cloak of fecal matter known as Twilight and it's evil master The Dark Meyer has been cleansed from this world.

Paul Harmon See Gerd Apostles are already asking to help spread the Gospels and rid the world of Meyerism....which is ironically similar to vampirism which SHE helped destroy...

Sarbi Jejeje took the test, hope it helps. It was a fun quiz I love dream related subjects.

message 41: by Deep (new) - rated it 2 stars

Deep In Paul's favour...
He says (mind the capital h), 'The truth is,
whoever hates Twilight today will never come close to like it.
Whoever loves Twilight today will one day start hating it.'

Speciale Destinee Most definitely! When i read before bed i have some freaky dreams.
