Is this a series?

Please remove the librarian's name and link to their edits from your comment, it is not permitted to call out users in this group.
I'd call that series a borderline case. But all the same author, and the titles (Reflections... , More Reflections... , Further Reflections...), all on the same subject, may make it valid.

If you have a question about a whether a specific series qualifies under Goodreads policies, that would be a valid thing to ask. (In this thread or by starting a new one). However, calling out edits by specific users -- naming names, and/or linking to their profile or logs -- is never permitted in this group. If you have concerns about a specific user's edits, please use the Contact Us link on the Help page, or flag the item(s) of concern.

Could you make these books into a series please?
Thanks!

Based on the reviews the characters do overlap between the books.

I have recreated it. I'm not going to ask "is this a series" because the answer is fairly obvious. I'm going to have to ask "is this NOT a series?"
The author every month for 27 years wrote an essay for "Natural History" magazine. Each book is a collection of essays. They are uniform in cohesive in terms of titles (all are subtitled "reflections in natural history"), authorship, format and content. It even says that they are a series in the book themselves! I think it would be hard to describe these as not being a series, but clearly somebody doesn't agree, so what gives them the right to keep deleting it?

None of those things makes it a series on Goodreads. More definitively, to be a series on Goodreads, it must apply to each and every edition of the books involved. That is pretty clearly not true.
Deleting.

"It must apply" - can you elaborate on what "it" is?

If so, should the individual series or the collection be the primary series on each book?

Being part of the series. In that case, it is clear that while some of the editions were published under that imprint, many were not.
In general, few non-fiction books meet the Goodreads definition of a series.

I am not familiar with these works, but it looks like they may have a common universe in which they are all set. Someone who has read some of them may wish to comment.

Sub-series should be first, pretty much always.

Thanks Miriam

Each book is a complete standalone with no crossover characters or story-lines, the common thread is that each book is written based on a Country Song that has inspired the author.
I was working with the author and had setup a series page that had each book listed without numbers indicating that the books could be read in any order but it has been deleted.
Books in this series to date:
Tequila
Ready to Run
Fastest Girl in Town
If this doesn't fall under the Goodreads series criteria is there still a way that we can have them grouped together?

No, I'm sorry.

You could create a Listopia List of them, but it won't show up on the book pages like a series link would.

Okay, thank you.

The link to Listopia list exists on the book page, but not in the obvious position. It (Lists with This Book) is under My Activity, Friends' Reviews and Readers Q&A.
It is not as straight-forward as series link, but still useful.

It is clearly not a series. Some books are exclusive Disney ones, and others are adaptations. I started to trying to make sense of "Bambi" as I was trying to shelve an old edition that didn't seem to be in the database, and went down this rabbit hole... I'm trying to separate the Felix Salten text books from the adaptations.
Should the name Disney's Wonderful World of Reading be listed in the edition field of these books and the series deleted or changed to a List?
Wanted to ask before I start this project. [If this is the wrong place to ask, I'm sorry. I read a lot of other Disney issues but didn't find this one.]

Yes, that's exactly right.

In searching, I've found some similar lecture books are in series and some aren't, so I thought I better check to make sure.
Thank you!

FYI--here's a link to the request for the series to be created. It's #33 on this page:

Thank you!

Hi Renee
Im not good on non fiction series but to me that looks like an imprint & if anyone wants to, a list could be created.
There looks to be other things that need fixing - that stuff in brackets, a Russian language one that has a description in English.
Unless someone more expert chimes in I would err on the side of caution and leave alone.

That's what I'm thinking. I was going to suggest a listopia list to the person who asked about it, but I wanted to make sure for now and for future reference. Especially since I'm anticipating being asked "why not?" And I basically know why not if it's an imprint, but I'd like to give them more specifics if possible. Thank you for replying!

My experience has been that veryfew non fiction series are series by Goodreads standards.

"Book 0.5" is said to be the deleted first chapter of "Dracula" from the draft manuscript, it was then published after Stoker's death.

It's a short. It was published by the author or his estate (his widow, in this case), as a prequel to the other work. Seems ok to me.

Anyone want to give a second opinion on #846? I don't work much with series & am always nervous deleting them.

I'm sure you're right - I'm just being a baby. I'll delete now.

Series number #2 & #2.5 do have a character in common (Killian) So those two books would be a series. I'm wondering if I should re-do the series with just those two books.

It seems like it is a collection in Russian (Сенсация в
медицине)- but the books have different authors from different countries and have nothing to do with each other, except for the general topic of covering human anatomy/physiology in a fun way.
I think it's a bit annoying to see the Russian series name under a title in Danish/Norwegian but apart from this, is there a valid Goodreads rule to remove the series, or a way to move it to the Russian editions only?
There is no way to have a series apply to only some editions of a work. In fact, if that is true, it is evidence of not being a series by the Goodreads definition.
Series removed.

the more I look at it, seems pointless to even make it Listopia. They all have Nebula Awards in the title.

Looks more like listopia since it doesn't have common authors or publishers.
