Redirecting this to a new thread, from the big GR author merge thread.

I don't know why searching for St John returned no results the other day, because it certainly does now, but it was right before the entire site went down for some hours so I guess I just had bad timing.

I figured that it was possible these authors had staff approval for odd names, but it raises a couple of questions.

Does this mean pen names don't have to abide by the name rules or does this one have specific approval?

It'd be great if there was a standard place to note these ones so they don't keep coming up. In another reply for another author with an approved deviation from the rules, there is a note on the combine page. Could that be a standard place for staff to make a note, or some other indication? If there was somewhere we knew to go and look, then we wouldn't keep bothering you with repeat customers.

Banjomike | 5166 comments I hope these exceptions remain a decision solely for the staff. It could be bad if all librarians were able to approve odd names.

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments I wasn't in any way asking for that.

I would simply like a reliable way to tell so we don't keep posting the same people on the merge thread.

And since some authors already have a note on the combine page, could we standardise that as a policy for the ones that don't, and note to look there in the manual, or in the first post on the merge thread, so everyone knows about it?

I know. I was just pre-empting any suggestion that us ordinary mortals should be able to bend the rules like that.

There are a few other authors who have features in their names that are worth adding notes for.

I did this one a while ago (the note is visible on the combine page):

this is a profile that catches books intended for

AFTER the adder has removed MBA from the author name mistaking thinking it is a qualification.
