Dace Maddox (dacemaddox) | 12 comments Hi all, I'm looking for a book I read back in the early '90s, when I was around 9-10, so it would be aimed at that sort of age range. It was set in either Tibet or somewhere in the Himalayas, and I remember finding it quite eerie as the characters spent much of their time lost in mist and fog and hearing creepy noises around them due to the Yetis.
I think the main characters were a man, and a young woman (or man?), though I'm not 100% sure. The younger party was definitely the most interested in the yetis. I think they were there exploring, or on an expedition, I don't think they were hunting for yetis per se. It may have had 'Cloud' in the title, and I'm pretty sure there was a cloudy mountain picture on the cover.
It was definitely a novel, not a 'factual' book. I remember it being a fairly slim book.
Sorry this was so vague, I'm hoping someone can help! Thanks.

Would it be called: 'The Way of the White Clouds' by Lama Anagarika Govinda?

Dace Maddox (dacemaddox) | 12 comments It says that's a non-fiction autobiography, and not a children's book so unfortunately that's not it. Thanks anyway!

Oh OK, sorry about that.
But, I'll keep searching. =D

Rachel (raachcakes) | 6 comments would it be "The City of Beasts" by Isabel Allende? it's in South America not the Himalayas, but there are definitely Yetis and a couple young kids accompanying a research expedition....

It is an excellent sentence.

Dace Maddox (dacemaddox) | 12 comments Kate and Lobstergirl - Ha ha, thanks :)

iiLov3Yuhh!! - Can't know for sure until I read it but I think you may have cracked it! Definitely sounds closer to what I remember, and I know Morpurgo is known for his excellent children's books. I can't wait to give it a read to find out for sure. The 'cloud forest' definitely seems familiar. Thanks!

Dace--be sure to come back and let us know if that IS the correct book. We all love a shelved mystery-no-more book.

Dace, was it "King of the Cloud Forests"?

message 16: by Dace (new)

Dace Maddox (dacemaddox) | 12 comments Hiya, I haven't had a chance to read it to check, definitely sounds right though. How do I change the thread to shelved?

Dace, I've moved it down to children's/YA solved for you. If, after you get a copy of the book, it turns out to NOT be the correct book, come back in, click on the little green EDIT button at the end of the title/description of your thread. Then select Unsolved to move the thread back up here, and say that it wasn't the correct book and we'll all get back into digging through the stacks mode.
