SciFi: short story: aliens save two humans from Earth, which is about to be destroyed, but...
Ok, I don't recognize this short story, but there was one similar to it in an anthology devoted to "end of the world" stories where it was one of the Gods who did the saving. (view spoiler) The story that I remember was funny, as were about half of the stories in that anthology. Sorry I can't look it up for you--my entire library is currently packed in boxes and in a storage locker. Sigh, moving is horrible. . .
Not yet. Unfortunately I'm not getting the help that I was promised for the packing and all. So it's going slowly. I also haven't yet found a house that "speaks" to me. Sigh, but I'm also getting so tired of the disruption to my life that getting ready to move has done.
Unfortunately--no. We have finally found a house we like and are now in the process of offers/counter-offers. I can see the cover of the book clearly, but NOT the title and who the editor was. . .

Also, happy mother's day.
Not unpacked yet--we've been having problems with getting to closing. It's been re-set 5 times so far, but we think that the end is finally in sight. (Or at least, our patience is coming to an end. One more delay and we are just going to bag this house and try to find another really fast.)
Just--I finally found my book with the short story I was talking about in it. After the Fall is the book title. (And yes, ALL the short stories in it have to do with the End of the World)
The title of the short story I was thinking of is: Fire and/or Ice by Roger Zelazny.

Mainly focused on a girl who has been snatched by aliens (from a HS dance) just prior to an Earth destroying event (I think I recall it as 'nuclear war'? (but to my mind, now, that doesn't mean that all humans will die. But whatever the event was, that was the implication)). The aliens tell her that they've snatched a human of the opposite sex, and that they're the last two humans alive.
But they can't meet, because the alien ship has no facilities to help raise/life-support for a bunch of humans. So she's got to wait years prior to meeting this boy.
Finally the big day comes... (view spoiler)[and it turns out that the aliens differentiated the sexes based on clothing (prudes?) and snatched her dance partner... who was dressed as a boy, but is actually female - since she went to an all-girl high school, and the two girls cry. (hide spoiler)]
Additional detail: the clothing analogs were made of paper (or otherwise disposable); dress and overalls (iirc?), respectively.
