((a lot* Here's how I remember that: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com... ))
Xantra nodded. "That happens quite often, actually. People being drawn to the college, I mean." She glanced down at her bag. "I should get this stuff back to my office. I hope you're feeling a little better at least."

Bryn wanted to get up."Do you need any help?" She asked hoping to move around more. Her mind then started to drift back Merlin. She shook her head and tried to dismiss the memories. She could not start to think about one of the memories that could come back to get her at any time. Hopefully not here.
((^_^ You're welcome. There's now a book of Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened. It's on my wish list.))
Xantra shrugged. "Not really. But you're welcome to walk with me if you'd like. I just have a couple of things to check on in my office before I head home for the evening. Have you thought about what subjects you're going to study? You may be able to meet some of your professors if you wish to do so. I think the Dean is here as well. She likes to meet new students."

((shrugged* ^_- ))
"It depends. What are you interested in? Any area you want to improve your mastery in or learn more about? Those are the subjects you should take.
"Of course, I always recommend taking wind magic courses. I'm a little biased, though," she said with a wink. She turned towards the administrative building and began to walk. She glanced up at the fast-darkening sky and shuddered. Something was not right around here; she could sense a darkness pervading the very air they breathed.

"Old magic? Like the stuff Merlin, and I guess you, would have done all those centuries ago? Pagan rituals and such things?
"I've read a bit about it, but never studied it seriously. From what I read, it seems to be a lot of earth-related magics. I'm not very good with those. I can do some, but only really simple stuff. That's what comes from studying and using wind magic my entire life, I guess," she said with a small shrug.
She started walking a little bit faster. The darkness - not necessarily evilness, she knew enough of demons to know there was a difference - pervading the air was making her chilly. Goosebumps sprang up on her arms, making her wish she had a jacket or sweater.

"Yeah, that kind of stuff. Exept many people with the gift of the use of the old religon were hunted. So there aren't that many left today. You are lucky to be able to attept it and it not failing. Even if it did not seem it worked and only gave you a small result, you must have some far back old religon magic stuff goin on." Bryn was tempted to shift to escape the cold but enjoyed talking face to face instead of telepathicly.
((Xantra's Office.))
Xantra paused, falling out of step with Bryn. "I guess. Mother is an elf, but I don't know much of Father's family history. I was raised among the elves. Of course, some of the elves probably followed the old religion too." She frowned. "I wonder if they were hunted, too. Maybe that's why there are so few elves in the world."
((So, question: Does Merlin have any children? Or did he at some point in the past?... I bet you can guess where I'm going with this. ^_-))

Bryn noticed Xantra falling out of step, probobly thinking. "Well all kinds of creatures were hunted. Sadly, even for game." Bryn tried to push back the moments when she had to go on these trips. Sometimes she even saw her own kind being hunted.
((I know the old one had at least one: your character Merlin. That's who I was asking about, the younger one. ^_^
My idea was that Xantra's human father could have been a descendant of Merlin the younger. Which she finds out when she researches her father's family history.))
"That's true," Xantra said softly, nodding her agreement. "Terrible, horrible thing, hunting," she murmured.
She continued towards the administration building, deep in thought. Just how far back can I trace father's family, I wonder? Were his ancestors followers of the Old Religion? Among those who refused to convert, perhaps? Probably. According to Mother, he knew elves existed before he ever met one. So maybe he believed in the old ways... The old stories...

"Well, sadly I've seen far worse." She said with a sigh. "We had a son once. Haven't seen him in a what, 100, 150 years." She said trying to recall. "Funny thing is his name was Merlin too. Last time I saw him ha had changed his last name to, oh, what was it... I don't remember it was scottish I think."
((Huh? Why would him having a child sometime in the past prevent him from marrying?
He would be Xantra's father's great-great-something grandfather, most likely. Xantra's father didn't live much past 40. But his father or grandfather... Who knows? He could be as close as her great-grandfather.))
Xantra remembered something from her visit to campus the day before. She'd walked around and looked at the names on all the professor's office doors. One of them had been Merlin, which had made her grin at the time. Now, what was his last name? Forest? Woods? Yes, that's it.
"It wouldn't happen to be Woods? There's a new professor here by that name. Merlin Woods. He teaches... earth magic, I think." She shrugged. He didn't teach water or healing - the two disciplines most closely related to her own - so she wasn't sure she remembered correctly.

Bryn stopped in her tracks. "What! Crap, he can't be here. I knew I sense close and extremly close family here. But him, God if Jason finds out he'll have my hide." She said starting to worry.
((Ah, okay. That makes sense.))
It took a few seconds for Xantra to realize the other girl had stopped moving. When she did, she turned to face her. "Who's Jason? And why does it matter if he finds out? It's all in the past, right? I mean, it's not like your former lover is still alive." Is he?
How could someone hold her past against her anyway? She imagined this Jason guy was probably the girl's boyfriend or something, and her son - if it even actually was him - was from far in her past. So what did it matter?

Xantra nodded, biting her lip. "Maybe you should have told him how old you are. It's probably a good idea to tell him now before he finds out some other way. I imagine he'd rather hear the truth from you than from someone else. You should at least think about telling him the truth. With your son here, he may well find out very soon."
What the hell am I doing giving relationship advice? I can't even keep the same lover for two nights straight. Not since Him. Damn Him.
(( o.O Who the frak is she talking about?? Hell... ))

(( o.O Who the frak is she talking about?? Hell... ))

"I can't though. He'll get made go after my son and start screwing with him. I get that we are all old, but he doesn't have to know. It will keep him safe. That is part of one of the reasons why my hide is so valuable." She said ending with a shrug.
((I don't know; that's the problem. I've got to figure out who Xantra was just thinking about...
I have an idea of who it could be, but no way am I bringing that character into this RP. No. Just no.))
Xantra cocked her head slightly, confused. "Why would he go after your son? I can understand him getting mad, but why..." she let her voice trail off. She shook her head and shrugged, deciding she didn't understand men and likely never would.
She never had understood why He had abandoned her all those years ago. She hadn't cared about their differences, but he had. Why? She had no idea. It made no sense to her. They made each other happy; what did anything else matter?
((Damn. Not who I thought it might be. Blast. I sense a new character...))

"How long have you guys been together? I mean, if he would think your professor son was from an affair..." She was getting more confused by the minute. Though she knew wolves - natural, shifter, were, whatever - had tempers. Some worse than others. "is he an Alpha? 'Cause that would explain a lot. Alpha wolves are weird. Male ones anyway." I should know.
((OH! Okay, I know who it is now. Nope, not bringing him in either. Well, actually... maybe.))
((OH! Okay, I know who it is now. Nope, not bringing him in either. Well, actually... maybe.))

"Well we have been off and on. It's complicated. He is and Alpha we both are. He wouldn't give me a chance, that's the problem." She said putting her head in her hands. Still it's just why did this just become thousands of times harder?
((I decided to bring him into the RP. I've started work on him in the character creation thread. I've just got to find where I typed up his background. It's really long...))
That explains a lot, Xantra thought to herself. Two Alphas? No wonder it was 'complicated'.
"Off and on? For how long?"

"Off and on? For how long?"

"So... Wouldn't it be obvious your son was born before the two of you ever got together? I mean, he's fully grown and knowledgeable enough to be a professor. That takes more than eight years." Except with demons. Those bastards grow up fast. Too damn fast, some of them. The full-blooded ones anyway. She shivered at the thought.
"Well, anyway, I should get back to my office." So I can go home soon. This place feels wrong today. So terribly, terribly wrong. I wish... No, no good thinking of what might have been. I've got to stop thinking about Him. He would make me feel safer, though. She frowned slightly, then shook her head to clear it.

Xantra nodded. "Angels aren't supposed to mate with other species either. And yet, they do. I've met human/angel mixes many times. And one werewolf/angel mix." Which is what made me think of angels in the first place. Damn I miss him. I wonder where he is now...
There was no Light Magic professor yet, so she knew he wasn't here. Nor would he be here anytime soon. Which was good; she needed to stop thinking about him, needed to move on. Almost two hundred years had passed and she still wasn't over him. She worried she might never be. His refusal to acknowledge the connection between them could have ruined their chance for happiness. So it would be best if she didn't see him again.
"If you want," she said simply. She turned back around and began to walk towards the administration building quickly. It was too cold out here now for walking any slower.

((Thanks.))
"Thanks for the offer, but I'm alright. For now anyway. So long as we get there soon. If you don't mind, let's not talk anymore until we get there." She smiled at the girl and walked a little faster towards the administration building and the safety of her warm office.
Unbeknowst to her, the brass plague on the door to the office across from her own was now carving a name into itself magically...

Jasper walked with Fiona to the courtyard, since they were on their way the dormitory. "Fiona, do you think we can both take down Draven...His plan is to destroy everything. I'm not sure if anyone can stop him." Jasper swings their hands a little. "I have thought about a few things while we were at the library. We can talk about those things after we speak to your brother. He should the situation with us and my intentions too" They were approaching the dormitory.
"Maybe," Fiona replied to his question about them being able to take down Draven. "I'm not sure. I think we can do it with some more help.
"Yeah, he does need to know about the situation. Your intentions towards me, well, he'll pretty much demand to be told that. It won't matter to him that you're stronger than him, he'll still try to intimidate you." She smiled, amused at the thought.
"His room is right across the hall from yours, so maybe we should put the books in your room first. Just in case Seamus loses his temper." She frowned at that thought. It had been years since Seamus had lost his temper, but she remembered it well. It had been terrifying.

Sexy~The~T.A.R.D.I.S. wrote: "Marick smiled and walked out from the Maze with Tarii on his arm. He nodded, "You need to....feed?" He asked. He was somewhat hesitant to see her feed from a human....but if it would help her get better... "
"Yeah," Tarii said softly. "I'm not sure how long it's been since I last fed. You know I need blood every few days. I always have." She smiled sadly. Had he forgotten that in the decades they'd been apart?
"Sleeping would work, but feeding would be faster."

Tarii looked around. "I'm not sure. I've only been in the maze before. I don't know where anything is. But I smell food this way," she said, pointing towards the Student Center. "There should be people there. Humans, so I'll be able to feed."
((Night.))
((Night.))

((Sorry.))
He nodded, "Okay, then we shall head that way." He said..and looked around for a second, "Which way was it?" He frowned, not sure if he fully approved of her feeding off humans....but it was something she had to do to survive..
((It's fine. I just saw you were on and thought you might have forgotten about this. ^_^))
"This way," Tarii said, pointing again. "I don't know what kind of food that is, but it smells good." She took a step in the direction of the student center. It felt... nice and... right to be held by him, even if it were only because she was too weak to walk on her own. Her strength was starting to return already, but slowly. She would be able to protect the Prince, should something happen, but then she'd be out of commission for a while.

Sam watched the pair of them from the shadows of one of the dorms. Huh. He doesn't seem such a bad sort after all. I think he actually cares for her. So why was she even here in the first place? He shook his head; it was none of his business really. But he'd still like to know.
He went around the far side of the building and began wondering around campus, eventually reaching the Administrative Building. He could at least talk to the Dean while he was here.

Marick smiled, "Okay, let's get you something to eat." Or someone... He sighed, a bit anxious to witness her feed from a human. He walked toward the Student Center with Tarii.
Tarii smiled up at the Prince. "You're being fairly calm about this," she remarked. He was, too. She knew he wasn't a big fan of blood. Unless, of course, he was the one making someone bleed. Which reminded her, she hadn't seen him carrying his sword since he arrived here. How very odd. He used to take it everywhere. He also used to be more paranoid.
((Where should they go in the student center? The food court? There aren't any player characters there, so we can just make up someone for her to feed from and not have to wait on anyone else to reply.
Or reception? There aretwo three (mostly) humans there: Iesha's character, Garrett, and two of Demon Wolf's characters, Alex and Trick.))

Seamus rushed towards the girls' dorm in response to the text from Fiona: My room. ASAP. Something must have happened, something bad.
So you can imagine his confusion when he saw Fiona coming out of her dorm with another girl, a cute blonde. "Fi? What's up?" he asked, slightly out of breath.
~*~*~*~*~*~
"Seamus!" Fiona said happily, hooking her hand into his elbow. "Samantha and I are going to supper. You are going to escort us, brother dear."
~*~*~*~*~*~
"Why the text then? ASAP? I thought something bad had happened."
~*~*~*~*~*~
Fiona chuckled. "Nah. I just wanted to make sure you got here before we left. Good timing, by the way."
~*~*~*~*~*~
Seamus shook his head. Fiona was... Fiona. Irrepressible. Impossible to comprehend. For him at least.
"Miss Samantha? Pleasure to meet you," he said, giving her a small bow. He offered her his other elbow.

Especially if you knew Merlin. THE Merlin. Damn. Despite the girl not showing any concrete proof, Xantra had gone from thinking she might be telling the truth to fully convinced she spoke true. If the girl was pulling her leg, she would look like a gullible fool. Which she most definitely is not. Not normally anyway. The mention of Merlin was enough to turn any mage's head. Any female mage at least.
