I think Buckley may become a favorite. He seems both very down to earth and matter of fact. The kids sound like real kids, even with their being highly intelligent super spies.
One of the the things I liked from the first book in his Sisters Grimm series, is that the younger sister (age 7) asks her older sister (age 11) for definitions of some of the words, instead of his "dumbing down" his vocabulary. I think its an ingenious way to keep a younger, or less skilled reader engaged in the story without their feeling its over their head.

I'm so glad you liked this story. I read them earlier this year and really enjoyed. I plan to read the rest of the series once I've completed the Dresden Files.
I've been doing absolutly no reading for the last 3 months - give or take - its been all Netflix. So I'm going on a blind book date today, based off of a recommendation from one of our fellow MobileRead peeps - Mr. WT - aka Tom.
Polly! If that goes well I'll see about moving on to my hubby's recommendation:
Redshirts.Other than that It'll be back to Criminal Minds, Numb3rs, NCIS and then hopefully Castle and The Mentalist.
Numb3rs!! I loved that show. Like, actually cried when it was canceled. Like the others you listed, too, especially Criminal Minds.
Christa wrote: "Numb3rs!! I loved that show. Like, actually cried when it was canceled. Like the others you listed, too, especially Criminal Minds."Criminal Minds is so intense! I can see why Mandy Patinkin only lasted two seasons ... I'm about 6 or 7 episodes into season 2 now (Elle just forcefully resigned).
I had only watched the first season of Numb3rs previously, so right now its a rewatch but not for long. I like the Epps men, together. Their dad seems to be good about helping the boys understand one another - or at least helping Don understand Charlie. I think there needs to be someone to help Charlie understand Don, though. Does Amita fill that role - eventually, because I can't see Larry doing so. Larry confuses me; he seems more of a hinderance than a help when it comes to one on one social interactions, but he does seem to have a better understanding of human nature as a whole - at least when explaining it to Charlie.
Hubby went treasure hunting for all of NCIS for me..I think we have half of it, so far, and I'm hoping he can do the same for Castle and The Mentalist. I'm still mad about having to return the boxed set. I got to rewatch the first 3 seasons but it was really season 4 or 5 I was waiting to see...thats where I had originally stopped, once we canceled satellite! *Grump* The same with Castle, except we've opted not to risk buying the DVDs this time.
Oh, those sound interesting. I might add them to my TBR. I really only watch Netflix in the winter. More time. I am thinking of a marathon though because I get a new recliner on Friday! First piece of sitting furniture in decades.

Enjoy your new recliner. :)
I really like Netflix and wish they were able to show "everything"!!
If they don't have it I then look on Amazon Prime (although their seasons tend to be spendy, so if its not actually on Prime I don't buy/watch it) and then I go to Hulu Plus last (they tend to only have the last season of a show - and you still need to have cable/satellite to access some shows - like anything on CBS - which completely defeats the purpose!
Oooh I love recliners! Haven't had one in ages. :( I use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Crackle. Since I haven't had cable / satellite in years, I've gotten used to watching what I can find to watch instead of hunting specific shows. But I still never run out of things to watch.
I do collect some classic shows on DVD - Adam-12, Route 66 and Naked City so far. I want to eventually add The Rifleman and a couple of others if it's ever in my budget to do so.

Freeee you say!?! Ooooh...
Never even thought of Sony as a production house. I'm sure I've watched things by them, but just didn't put 2 & 2 together. I'll have to take a look.
Thanks. :)
AHHH, I just cruised the Crackle site myself. I never knew it existed either. Thanks, Christa. I found an oldie, THE TICK. SPOOON!! the animated version is much better than the live action version but they're both good for a laugh.
Spacechik wrote: "AHHH, I just cruised the Crackle site myself. I never knew it existed either. Thanks, Christa. I found an oldie, THE TICK. SPOOON!! the animated version is much better than the live action vers..."OMG I remember The Tick! Hubby introduced it to me! "SPOON!!!!!"
I used to watch Numb3rs. It was good until the formula (pun not really intended) became a running joke with me and the wife. The plot line in the show wrote itself every time. I did like the geekiness though. Math weirdo am I.
I used to like (a lot) those shows like Criminal Minds, etc. But as I got older I started to notice...most of the people killed on those shows (at the time) were women. O_o
I'm a woman. o_O
And it got scary so I stopped. Especially when Law & Order: SVU came out.
So that new Idris Elba movie? I can't even stand to see the previews. That shit terrifies me. TERRIFIES.

(((HUGS)))
Some of the episodes of some of the shows are frightening!
SUV was one of my favorites before I left satellite.
I remember there being an episode or two dealing with Olivia undercover that were serious triggers for me. I think I cried most of the night.
But still, I watch...
I can't do it anymore. I wish I could because I really enjoyed those shows. I don't know what happened, I just flipped. O_O
MrsJoseph wrote: "I can't do it anymore. I wish I could because I really enjoyed those shows. I don't know what happened, I just flipped. O_O"I completely understand!
One should really not attempt to end a 6 month reading drought with a book like The King of Elfland's Daughter.Floridly verbose and dense! I didn't make it past the first chapter...
The drought continues, but at least my interest is increasing.

Thank you hon. :)
I can not express how happy I am to be reading again!!!!Thank you Abigail Hilton! I am 10 chapters (13% - approx. 83 pages) into The Prophet of Panamindorah, a complete trilogy.
I also want to thank my MR/GR family for their encouragement and support. Only fellow readers can possibly understand the frustration caused by a prolonged reading slump!
I finished a series! (Granted its only a two book series, but still! :D )Book #25

In a fit of OCD, this is what my entries will most likely look like in 2015.The only thing missing is the monthly goal number I usually put at the end, specifically for the series challenge.
I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it or not.

My other thought is to just copy the entire series entry over here (adding the I'll Try Anything Once info), instead of editing it to remove the series challenge info, as usual.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Thanks to a little Christmas money (aka Amazon Gift Card) I have overwhelmed my self with options and I would like help choosing how to end 2014/ begin 2015 please. The following selections are books I already or now own and they will help me to get a jump on one or more of my 2015 challenges.
All of them should be good for at least one spot in the "Anything Once" challenge as well:
Series Challenge (-10 pt penalty for being new):
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
FoF Group Read & Series Challenge (no penalty):
Dust ,
Red Rising ,
Gardens of the Moon ,
Seraphina ,
Lord of the Silver Bow ,
Ancillary Justice ,
Blood Song ,
The Madman's Daughter ,
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making , or
Dealing with Dragons
FoF Group Read:
Mr. Shivers ,
The Book ,
Bird Box ,
Swan Song , or
The Martian
MobileRead Bookclub Read (January 2015) & Series Challenge (-5 pt penalty for being a new series read for another group):
The Iron KingI wish I could just turn this into an actual poll! lol
Votes/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I decided to set up a poll on MobileRead: How Should I start off the New Year? Please vote...Thank you. :)
Thank you!!! Yes, The Martian was at 13, I believe, when I l checked this morning. Others have started picking up a little though, but not anywhere close to The Martian.
I'm considering picking my first 3 to 5 books based, on the final results of the poll. All choices will have to have a minimum of 5 votes.
The poll will be open until tomorrow (Jan 1st, 2015) night. Keeping it up for only 24 hours didn't seem like quite enough time.
It seems like you generated enough traffic to get a good list of ideas.I've already buried myself in the upcoming reading list. I think I'm at seven books penciled in already.
According to MobileRead: 477 people have looked at the poll, but only 18 (Which includes myself) have voted.
I don't believe unlogged in users (anonymous lurkers) can vote so you'd always have a lot more looks than votes. 18 voters is pretty good.I've posted two polls in Reading Recommendations previously and got 20 and 11 voters. I believe the polls are still open and they are more than two years old. 18 is a great turnout. :)

Gottcha. Well in that case, thank you. :)
So, according to the poll so far, my 2015 reading order should be as follows:1st place (14 votes): The Martian
Tied for 2nd place (7 votes each) : Ancillary Justice or The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
A very distant 3rd but in reality 4th place (with only 3 votes so far): The Iron King
Next would be Dust or Gardens of the Moon (2 votes each) and then The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making ( a single vote from someone other than myself).
The other books either received a single vote from me, or no votes at all.
That single vote would be me. It's cute, although slightly disjointed plot-wise. I love Catherynne M. Valente's language and her understanding of folklore and mythology more than make up for the disjoint for me. The Orphan's Tales is also on my list to finish the series this year. The first book of that was just so lush and thick. A book you take a deep breath and just wade through the beautiful prose.

Yes..I look forward to reading it. Thank you for your recommendation as well. :)

Ancillary Justice has just slipped into 2nd place with an 8th vote.
