Josie | 1967 comments WOW! Way to go Brittany!

Okay, so thanks to Paris for keeping the lists up to date, it's just me left and then we've completed all of our shelves. So to let you guys know where I am, I'll be finished with all my books by Saturday night:

Vampires: Secret Unleashed - finished
Reader's choice: Warrior's Redemption - 75% done
Demons: Green-Eyed Demon - 50%
Supernatural: Come Alive - haven't read this yet, but I always read these books quickly

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments *chews fingernails* -- I think I've got my book picked if tomorrow's shelf call is Part of A Series or 2013. I'm likely to stalk the shelf announcement thread every hour ...

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Thanks for the update Josie. We are in great shape ladies. Lets hope the shelf called is ours and then one of the two non winning shelves.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Just checking in on shelf day ...

Josie | 1967 comments Vampires:

Secret Unleashed (Secret McQueen, #6) by Sierra Dean

Title/Author: Secret Unleashed by Sierra Dean
Date finished: 10th December
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Another interesting Secret McQueen book. This one I thought really showed how much Secret has grown through the series, and my incoherent thoughts are below in the spoiler for obvious reasons:

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments I'm still stalking the shelf announcement. (And expecting the stamp request thread too see lots of activity today.) Likely 4 more hours at least but just in case earlier ...

The supernatural stamp is still needed for our card's "B" column BINGO if "Part of a Series" shelf gets called.

Josie | 1967 comments Reader's choice:

Warrior's Redemption (Warrior, #1) by Melissa Mayhue

Title/Author: Warrior's Redemption by Melissa Mayhue
Date finished: 13th December
Rating: 3 stars
Review: I read this free from the XOXO After Dark site. It was a bit meh. Not very interesting characters or not much of a plot. I mean it was okay, but nothing really happened, it was all a bit pointless.
For example, (view spoiler)
The time-travel aspect was all very wishy-washy. No depth, no settling in for Dani, no sense of setting or of the clan. No mystery of who the secret villain was either.

Josie | 1967 comments Supernatural:

Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle

Title/Author: Come Alive by Karina Halle
Date finished: 14th December
Rating: 4.5 stars
Review: It was really great to come back to Experiment in Terror. We did learn quite a bit more about their world and the characters themselves. I wasn't overly blown away by the storyline on this one. All the voodoo stuff could've been scarier, the books where it's been ghosts and haunted places have been much more tense. Maybe it's because it's kind of unexplainable or intangible?
Dex's POV. I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would. I did miss Perry, but it was interesting to be in Dex's quite erratic head. I am looking forward to being back with Perry for the next one, especially as there seems to be still much more to explore, e.g.(view spoiler)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Yay!

LOL, and if both get called we need to decide which shelf to read first as both are BINGOs for other teams as well.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Haha good point Debbie.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Still stalking...

message 318: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Dec 14, 2013 02:09PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Ugh ... It's urban fantasy and magic.

So, are we done or are we continuing on for some sort of 1st, 2nd, ...placement deal?

I'm pretty sure in previous rounds once a BINGO, no more shelves are called even if the teams with potential BINGO from the shelf play on for 2nd/3rd place. Which we have no shot at.

message 319: by Paris (last edited Dec 15, 2013 11:22AM) (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Well ladies. No such luck for us today. The shelves are urban fantasy and magic

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Moderator cinfirms that's it, so 'bye all and hope everyone has a healthy, happy holiday season.

My read for a win would have been:

Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter, #6) by Nalini Singh

2013, Part of a Series, or Urban Fantasy Shelf
Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter, #6
Finished: December 14, 2013
Rating:
Number of pages: 374-384 depending on edition (I read nook at 384)

Review: Going in as a long-time fan of series, I knew for me that this one will also be about the characters. Oh, there's worldbuilding and a story/plot—but, this series is character driven. And we're back into Raphael and Elena's story. Yummy. And even if this book had turned out to be a bad one, I know that I would still definitely be continuing the series.

[Reading in progress, add review here]

Josie | 1967 comments Even though I spent all day reading for tonight, it was still time well spent LOL!
I'm still reading my demon book since I'm over half way. Plus I had a lot of fun playing with you all :D

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments I had a great time playing with you ladies. Too bad we got so close and just didn't get lucky. Happy holidays to you and your families!

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments I am going to read too Preethi.

Reading Black Heart (Black Wings, #6) by Christina Henry for Urban Fantasy and Endless Knight (The Arcana Chronicles, #2) by Kresley Cole for Magic.

message 326: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I'm sad it's over but well done team for no one dropping out. I know a few other teams did have players leave (for RL reasons, we all know it happens, and it's fine), but it's nice to finish with all 5 players :)

Demons:

Green-Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane, #3) by Jaye Wells

Title/Author: Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells
Date finished: 15th December
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This isn't my favourite series to be honest. I do like Sabina, but the other characters I don't particularly care about. It shows how much I care when I actually hoped for (view spoiler) at the end. Just to spice things up a bit.
The second half was much better than the first. The first half dragged, and some of the scenes were pointless. Mac could've been taken out of the book completely, the same with Brooks/Pussy Willow. I kind of thought her character was a bit cardboard cut-out and over the top. I also kept forgetting she was (view spoiler). The orgy scene I didn't find particularly amusing either. I'm not that PC but I was a bit uncomfortable with the word 'gimp' to describe the midget.
I don't know whether I'll carry on, there is only two books left so I might.

message 327: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments That's a great point Josie. I was really proud that we all stuck it out too. This was a great team!

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Yes, it's been fun and a great team.

Total utter bust at shrinking the TBR pile -- but fun.

Thanks everyone.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Well team 2 won and they won 2 ways. Pretty cool. That doesn't happen often in Bingo.

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments Welcome! Great game, ladies!

It's SOS' first double bingo! :D

message 333: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments I had a feeling it was the first time here. I think I've seen it once when I've played normal Bingo. It's rare. And so cool.
