I picked up this book after I saw the review for the second one on Dear Author. I read the first few pages and I like Daisy already. Looking forward to reading it...someday. ;-)

Before I read this book I had the impression it came before the Mercedes Thompson books, although I am not sure why I thought this. Maybe just based on age of characters and the title of the series. It is happening at the same time as the other series. It starts when Charles Cornick meets his mate while dealing with a crazy pack in Chicago. Then, he saves her life and brings her back to his home just in time to go out on a potentially deadly mission, dragging her along. I really enjoyed learning more about the other werewolves Mercy considered her family.
I like the way Patricia Briggs writes and get caught up in her books every time I read one. I could imagine how hard Charles had to work to give Anna time to become comfortable with what she is and how she feels about him. The different relationships felt real to me, although it does take a little imagination to believe werewolves marrying humans and living with them through old age and death when they don't age themselves. It just seems that it would be very hard to watch your loved ones die time after time, year after year.
I will definitely continue with this series as well. So far, I have been very pleased with my ventures into PNR and UF and hope to try out more based on reviews from this group.

Week 2
Shelf 3: Romance
12/11/13 ★★★★★
Ellie St Clair, a psy-botanist, living on Harmony has moved to Cadence City to escape her broken engagement to Cooper Boone, Guild Boss of Aurora Springs. This is no small thing as Ellie has grown up in one of the top Guild families of Aurora Springs and has always had to do the right thing.
The reason she broke her engagement was because Cooper was not putting her first, he is a workaholic plus he had a few problems to solve when he took over the Guild. But everyone told him that Ellie was a sheltered little girl so he didn't tell her anything of what was going on. Needless our Hero underestimated our heroine, and as all the villans in JAKs novels always do too.
One villan in particular has followed Ellie to Cadence, Palmer Frazier, ex Council member of the Guild, and he has plans to use Ellie to take over Aurora Springs.
Both Cooper and Palmer are 'blue ghost freaks' and that is another secret Cooper has kept from Ellie.
Meanwhile Ellie has settled down in Cadence, made friends, opened her own business and been adopted by her own dust bunny, Rose.
Various adventures, dead bodies, drugs and an incompetent dectective later we have our HEA.
Love the dust bunnies and world building in these Harmony novels.

Paranormal Romance

In this book, Sascha is trying to hide her 'flaws' and be a perfect Psy until she meets Lucas. Lucas wants to use her to get access to the PsyNet world. Then she learns that things are not as they appear and her 'flaws' are really part of her abilities. And they start working together.
I liked the polar opposites between the group dynamics but somehow they manage to coexist in the same world. I like the Changling dynamic that puts family before everything and I feel sorry for the Psy group where everyone is out for themselves. This book definitely follows the opposites attract rule with Lucas and Sascha. The PsyNet world was a little difficult for me to picture how it worked and how she could shadow the others in it, but I understood enough to follow what was happening. Another series I will keep reading, as if my TBR wasn't long enough already. I am looking forward to trying out the Guild Hunter series.

EDIT: Sorry, I was sitting here for awhile without reloading page.

How's everyone else, apart from TC who is finished, liking their books?

Week 2
Shelf 4: New2You Series
13/11/13 ★★★★
Daisy Johanssen, half human/half incubus, brought up in Pemkowet by her single human mother, works as a part-time file clerk at the local police station and as the on-call liaison to the Norse Goddess Hel.
Pemkowet, has an Underneath ie the Realm of Hel. Thus magical creatures (eldritch) can survive in the human world there without fading and for a radius of about 10 miles. So Ghouls, Fairies, Sprites, Vampires and elusive Werewolves live fairly happily there as well as a human population, and lots of tourists eager to experience the otherness.
Surrounding the town are those that would like to destroy everything not human, so its a balancing act for Daisy. If she gets too angry she could trigger Armageddon through her demonic side, and she does have a temper.
Daisy has had a crush on Cody Fairfax since she was ten. He is a Werewolf in the closet and also a police officer. When a rich college kid dies, all the stops are pulled out to find out 'who did it' and Daisy is partnered up with Cody.
For a first in series book, there were some really good characters, great world building and lots of intriguing creatures. You can tell that Ms Carey knows how to write and I am very glad she chose to tell this story.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Sorry guys!! I have been super busy. :)

This was just ok. The steamy scenes were pretty dang steamy but I never connected with the characters and I didn't find myself cheering them on for a HEA. It either needed to be darker or shorter for me to give it a higher rating. Now that being said I've been on a YA and dystopian binge this month so that may have something to do with it lol.

Review: I loved the ending. I won't give anything away, but I am glad that everything worked out how it did. This is the last book of the Sookie Stackhouse series, and it certainly kept me entertained. Sookie is being targeted by unknown people and she gets arrested and framed for murder. A lot of people come and help her out. They help her figure out why she is being targeted and by who. This book has a lot of interesting things to throw you off to keep it entertaining. I enjoyed it. Usual there's lots of hot, steamy sex in these books, but there was only one. *Bummer*
All in all, I think this was a good conclusion to the series.

I'm not sure why I like these books as much as I do. I'll say what I said when reading the Dark Duet, it's like the car wreck in front of you that you know you shouldn't look at but can't keep yourself from looking anyways. Definitely recommend these to anyone who liked the Dark Duet. I connected with the characters and had RL not gotten in the way I probably would of finished this in one sitting.

Review: I was pleasantly surprised with this book. At first, it kind of seemed to drag by, but then the more I read the more interesting it got. In this first book of the series, Charley Davidson, is a grim reaper. She is the portal for souls to cross. She works as a PI, and her family thinks she is psychic. However, there is more to her that at first nobody knows. In this book, she is solving the murder of three lawyers and a missing boy. She is also trying to figure out who a mystery guy is. This book was pretty good. The characters were different from other books that I read, so it was definitely entertaining. I think I will read more in the series.

I must admit when I started this book, I was expecting it to remind me of the Matched series by Ally Condie which I already knew I liked. However, it is quite different and I thoroughly enjoyed it for itself. It took me a bit to figure out where it was taking place. The names seemed US but the country was called Illea, which turned out to be parts of the US many years in the future.
I liked the relationship forming between America and Prince Maxon. Being herself instead of trying to cater to his wishes is refreshing after all the cat fights and backstabbing among the Selection girls. I don't like that the girls seem to know nothing about the history of their country and the lady teaching them says it is just something they should know, not have to read about. It also seems as if the Prince doesn't really know much about his country and how it works even though he is working with his father.
I am left with lots of questions about what is really going on with all the terrorists and I really don't like one of the girls the Prince is keeping around, but the book wouldn't really work as well if she disappears too early. Also, I think one of the other girls is hiding something that could hurt America in the future. I definitely need to get the next book soon so I can figure out what is going on.

Review: This ending made me so anxious for the next book. Of course, it was ironic that I got into this book since it took me so long to even read it. The beginning when Claire was first attending MIT dragged on and on. I had trouble getting into it enough to read it. However, towards the middle when all the drama started with "VLAD" and Claire's gang it became a whole lot easier to read. I definitely will be reading the next book in this series because of the ending. (It comes out this month, yay!)
