Personally, I don't think Luke likes fantasy very much.

Who is Luke Burrage? He's wrong.

He is. Has a science fiction book review podcast.

One of the things I really like about Sanderson is his ability to create really interesting women in his books. If you skip the female POV parts in this book, you will miss a lot of what's going on in the story.
That said, I think the real weakness of The Way of Kings is that it feels like it's mostly world-building and setup. Yes, stuff happens and there's plenty of action, but it doesn't feel like it goes anywhere.

It'd be like reading Lord of the Rings, skipping all of the Frodo and Sam parts."
Actually, I've done that at times when rereading Return of the King ;) And, I skimmed Dalinar's parts when I reread Way of Kings. He's not a bad character but lots of his sections are just used for world-building and history teaching so I didn't want to read them twice.

That is the part I really dislike, and I skimmed most of it the only time that I read the book.

Yes, it's a beautiful book even if airport security will consider it a lethal weapon.

EDIT: Sanderson admits he doesn't know why it's that cheap either, but he also encourages you to get it.
