Allegiant
question
Did you like Allegiant?
(THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS)
I hear a lot of people hated Allegiant but I think it's very real, like you said. It would have been too convenient if everything ended with rainbows and unicorns. Sure, the book wasn't a riveting read. It had a mixture of fast and slow. I really enjoyed the idea behind the whole faction system, finding out it was all en experiment... I really love the storyline but I just wish Veronica would have done a better job with it. Also, it's a little hard to wrap my head around the GD/GP stuff, personally. But I don't think Allegiant deserves the hate I see going around. Ultimately, it's Veronica's story and she can write what she want. If the readers dislike it then well, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle killed Sherlock Holmes off in The Final Problem but he wrote a book after that where Sherlock faked his death so maybe we'll have a rewrite of Allegiant? I dunno. Personally, I liked all the books. I actually respect Veronica a lot more now that she killed Tris. I mean of course we were all rooting for Tris and Tobias but that's not how the world works. Life's unfair and shit happens. This time, it happened to be Tris's death. And Tobias's grief was so tangible. The ziplining scene broke me. I think all you Veronica Roth haters need to take some peace serum and calm down. Killing main characters isn't new. George R R Martin does it all the time. Shakespeare too. I think Veronica was very brave to write the story the way she did and I'm proud of her for taking that risk.

Nope i hated the book with a passion and I've had time to really think about why. Ok yes I'm going to say it I didn't agree with the necessity of killing Tris as a morality lesson. VR has stated that from the beginning that was her decision to kill Tris. I believe VR did an excellent job in creating Tris's world in Divergent. It seems to me that in Insurgent the story started to unravel a bit and things just fell apart in Allegiant. I believe it's because VR was so hung up on trying to kill Tris. Ok she says she wasn't trying to shock us or be clever but wanted to be true to Tris's character. If this is so why did she write Tris's death in a manner that seemed to have been in a rushed? why did she write a death that seemed to be so unnecessary? If this book was a tribute to Tris it was a poor one. I think Tris deserved better than what VR gave her. VR was too preoccupied with killing Tris and she lost sight of every thing that mattered A GOOD STORY.
The majority of people do not hate the ending on the imaginary "happily ever after" principle.
I'm very happy with the way this book ended. I think the ending was the strongest part and to me it seems like it was the only part she actually fleshed out at the very beginning of things when she was pitching the whole series... The way she gets to the ending is very frustrating and her weak attempts to tie up loose ends were infuriating!
I've always hated Tris and read the series for so many other reasons. It would have been nice to see her character develop a bit more - it feels strange that a protagonist doesn't have more of a character arc but Veronica is still a very young author and this is her first attempt at a published series. I think it bodes well for the rest of her career and I'm interested in seeing what she comes up with next.
I wouldn't be surprised if she revisited this world as a more mature author and I could totally see her doing a "prequel" series in 5 to 10 years that explores how the factionless sector got so damaged or maybe follows Tris' mother's story because it has all the elements of an epic and we only got the highlights of it in the Divergent series.

SPOILER ALERT
Yes, I liked the book. Dont kill me for it...
Tobias, in my opinion, was kinda a jerk in both Insurgent and Allegiant and well, lets be honest, so was Tris. Tris and Tobias got along in Divergent and then in the rest of the trilogy they fought. Alot. And I did not like it. I did not like their fighting and I think is was not right. I would have liked them to get on more.
I accepted Tris' death but it did feel rushed. I mean, it was the right thing to do. and it fitted with Tris' character, to rush in and sacrifice herself for Caleb. But, you know, everyone likes a happy ending?
Overall, I think the book was very good and it had its up and downs. I hope she doesnt re-write it as thats what she thought was right for the story.

While I was reading Allegiant, I suspected either Tobias or Tris would die for the greater good. Tris from the start of the series was always willing to put her life on the line. It was nice to see her evolve and realise that she did have a life worth living for. I have just finished the book a few hours ago so need more time to process.
I thought Allegiant was amazing. Anyone who didn't like it because of the ending should read this blog post by Veronica Roth

i really liked it, i thought it was amazing. i was extremely sad about tris dying but i was still happy with the book. tris died a really heroic and selfless death and i think that made me love her even more. so even though i was sad the book was amazing
No, I was really disappointed with Allegiant, for a very long list of reasons. But, a petition for it to be written is going a bit too far in my opinion!
The saddest thing was that *spoiler alert* for a very long time Tris actually wanted to die, because to her it seemed the easy way out. It was sad that when she finally wanted to live, when she finally saw reason for life, she had to make that sacrifice. I guess it just made it more selfless. Nothing too selfless about allowing yourself to be killed when that's what you want..
Nope. I hated how it ended.
I wasn't sure about this book when I first started reading it. I had a hard time getting into it, as it seemed to move too slowly for me. However, I kept reading and enjoyed it once there was more action. I was surprised by the ending, but think it was probably an appropriate way to end this series.
I cried when tris died in allegiant. I felt it was un nessasary and wrong. I felt bad for four. How could Veronica Roth just kill of tris like that!!!!!! I was heart broken. All I could think about when I was reading the series was tris and four. And that's all I could talk about to. My friends actually yelled at me at one point. But when tris died I was so sad I couldn't even think about divergent without crying :( I felt Veronica Roth was so focused on killing tris that she forgot to realise that people who read her book would not like it. But other than that the book was absolutely Amazing!!!! I loved every bit of it......except you know tris dying and all. I felt connected with four and tris and if Veronica Roth hadn't killed of tris it would be the best book ever rotten p. not that it isn't already ;)
I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. My distaste had nothing to do with the ending, but rather the fact that the book was a little dull. The first two books were full of excitement, suspense and adventure. This one... not so much.
I gave it 3.5 stars; I thought it was better than Insurgent, but it didn't enthrall me the same way Divergent did. It overall seemed kind of . . . bland.
And I'm not as upset about the ending as a lot of people are, but think about it: What would we remember Allegiant for if Tris hadn't died?

I hate it. The first two books are great, but Allegiant was boring and sincerely I hate the final. I like happy endings and I don´t need tragedy apart of it happens in our world.
~~~~~SPOILERS~~~~~~~~~
I feel that Divergent was such an excellent book and story and had so much potential that to follow it up with Insurgent and Allegiant didn't do it justice. I had no problem with Tris dying, what I had the problem with was how little I seemed to care when it happened. I hate that after two books of Tris being the Narrator Veronica Roth decided to change it. For the first two books I had a Tobias I knew and routed for and I didn't know who he was in this book. Both Tris and Tobias didn't seem like themselves in this book and I couldn't find myself connecting with them the way I did in Divergent. I respect the themes Roth tried to add to this book. The idea that Science is the highest power in a government and that they have no respect for individuals and they are all just subjects in an experiment was interesting but there was definitely something missing. Oh and another thing I had a problem with was the romance scenes, I mean how many times do we need to be told that Tobias' hand is on Tris' cheek. In the other books the romance you looked forward to and it was electrifying, and romance/relationships change in real life which I get and respect but I didn't like how it was written (or how often) in this book. So I guess no I didn't like this book but I respect the choices Veronica Roth decided to make in writing it. It's her series.
I love this book too. Though the ending was sad and I cried. Yes I cried. I agree that it was very brave of Veronica to kill of Tris and that is why I think this is a good book. For an extrordinary book, you need an extrordinaty ending.
I liked Allegiant, it was better than Insurgent, but not as good as Divergent which has the whole 'new world' rosy quality to it. The changing POV was necessary for the end, but I didn't find it too distracting. The ending of the book really got me though. I didn't expect to like the book very much because the middle of the book was so incredibly slow with the drawn out explanations. I did hate how the action would change so suddenly. It would go from Tris's thoughts to something exploding with no action development. I definitely thought there were some too sappy gratuitous moments that felt naive to me between Tris and Tobias. I guess it appeals more to high schoolers who think their love lives are all important and world changing. I was really sad at Tris's death in the end. However, I see the purpose in it. I don't think she could have ever let Caleb sacrifice himself like that. I enjoyed how nature was allowed to take its course in the end where things were growing in every space in the city, and Tris was being returned to the earth. It showed the harmony in life.
I didn't like. I think they spent so much time explaining about the GD and GP, and the Tobias drama about being GD annoyed me. I understand that Veronica wanted to kill Tris, sometimes the books doesn't have total happy endings, but why not the death serum, why choose to let David kill her if he thought she was important for the experiment, why nobody kept a eye on him if that day was so important? Tobias bring the memory serum to her mother but give to Peter, and why Peter had to follow him? He could find a way to steal some memory to reset himself the same way Tobias did at the end. No sense at all.
She killed off main characters well i definitely have to read it. I was going to skip this one bc i figured it would end with an unrealistic conclusion but reading these spoilers i need to read it
I loved it. I kept wanting Tris or Uriah to somehow be alive at the end. There were beautiful parts written in it. The love that Tobias had for Tris was heart breaking. The zip lining part at the end was heart breaking, though i wouldn't have spread her ashes going down it. I knew someone was going to die i, but i thought it would have been Four. I love how Veronica switched it up. It separates her from other authors
throughout most of the story i think that i was fully on board with where it was trying to go. i think that there's a lot of great story line and character relationship development that we started to get.
what was hard for me was i was about 1/3 of the way through when i saw Veronica Roth on the Today Show talking about how the ending surprised a lot of people and maybe even disappointed a few. that threw me because that meant that for the rest of the story i was trying to figure out what the twist was going to be and what that meant for folks that i really loved to read about.
for a while i was equating the ending of this book to requiem where there were so many things that left me feeling a bit put off and empty but really it's not the same thing so that was an unfair comparison. i think that in this story - there were things that happened that i really didn't want to see happen and things that i wish had evolved more. that's not the case though and i get why she did it. in Requiem, it was so open ended that i'm glad that we didn't have that result.
all in all, i understand that Ms. Roth wanted closure on story lines, but i think that there was much more that we hoped for / expected that went unfulfilled.
I don't know. I thought it was so cheesy most of the time and the writing wasn't very good to be honest. Tobias annoyed me for the entire book and I just didn't care about his pain at the end of the book. I also didn't like Tris as much in this book as in the other two. It was just really disappointing in my opinion. Tris' death seemed really cheap, too. It felt like Veronica Roth just threw it in there to shake up the reader which is REALLY irritating because I love Tris' character and she deserves better than that. And what bugged me the most is that even though it was totally out of the blue to kill off the main character, it was still pretty predictable and just GAH not overly impressed with how this trilogy ended
Loved it....only thing I would've changed was Uriah would've lived...sometimes,even miracles do happen...but I understand y he had to go too...
disliked this book. However, while I wanted a happy ending , I did not dislike the book because of the ending. I disliked the book because I did not feel she developed the characters or the scene in the Bureau sufficiently. In fact, all the character including Tris and Tobias seemed flat to me. The changing POV was done so terribly. There was no change of tone or feelings as you changed between characters. Only at the end when I knew Tris was dead and the chapters had no headings did I finally feel convinced I was in Tobias’s head. Prior to that I constantly had to check who was the narrator. I can see that perhaps she was exploring deeper ideas than I originally gave her credit for but, either she was too young or too rushed to pull off the deeper ideas and, instead to me everything felt contrived, boring or flat. I had hoped for better.
***SPOILERS***
I thought the ending was utterly heartbreaking and beautiful. It was so well written and i commend Roth for what she did..even if it broke our hearts. I think that it would have been too boring if Tris and Four lived happily ever after. Of course i miss Tris... there is a hole where my heart used to be! And oh god.. Uriah. I knew he was gonna die as soon as he volunteered to take Zeke's place in the mission. He was admittedly one of my favourite male characters. At some times i liked him more than i liked Tobias... :P
Four was kind of a bit of a jerk throughout this book. I mean, we can't blame him; finding out he's not actually Divergent when his girlfriend is, and then telling him he's "damaged". i felt so bad for him :(
I was just waiting for him to fall apart when he heard about what happened to Tris. Like, fall to the ground and sob, but he didn't. I guess it wouldn't have really been in his character to do that but still. I feel like he didn't react enough to the news. He did in his own way haha.
If i was him, i would have taken the Memory Serum. i would have wanted to forget. i still DO want to forget, but that wouldn't have done Tris any good. She would have been forgotten by the person who loved her most and that in itself is heartbreaking. I guess he made the right choice, thanks to Christina :) . I loved how their relationship flourished. I hope they stick together in the Divergent series afterlife :P
Did anyone else get the hunch before reading this book that either Tris or Tobias would die due to the book being written in duel perspective? I did. If it was written strictly from Tris's PoV we never would have known what happened after, you know. Clever Veronica ;)
I feel the same way, Alexandria. I mean I'm totally crushed about Tris but it is Veronicas story and she can do whatever she wants with it. And people keep talking about not reading anymore of her books and boycotting the movie. seriously? She said she thought Harry Potter should have died in The Deathly Hallows, you should have seen it coming.
I mean I am super sad that Tris and Tobias don't get to be together but it would have been so cliché if she had survived the death serum and they lived happily ever after. And I thought it was awesome that Tris takes Caleb's place. I think it really shows you a lot about her and I would have lost respect for Tris had she let Caleb die. I also like how VR doesn't make them have sex. being one of Tris's fears you kinda assume that its going to happen by the end of the series. There is that one place in Allegiant were you get to decide if you think they did or didn't which I thought was great, because I would have lost respect for Veronica if she had made them.
The ziplining scene was way cruel. But the story and Veronica Roth do not deserve all the hate and crap being said. Yeah its sad and unfair but just think about how amassing it is that this story has so much power over everyone.
I loved Allegiant so much. Obviously spoilers are ahead. The thing is, I loved that VR brought us to this "new world" because I think if she kept writing in the scenery of Chicago, it would be beaten to a pulp. So I liked that. Now the ending, a lot of people hated. And although I cried, and was incredibly sad, I loved that VR did that. That was totally something that Tris would do. It was in her character. Plus, what author kills off the main character? It's rare and I think VR was so brave to do that, because she knew there would be mixed feelings about it. People are going to die, and she put a huge twist in this book by, for once, killing off somebody that leaves a big enough mark on our hearts, and that is what gives the emotional power to this book. I can't decide if I like this book better than the first, I am going to say it was tied. Fantastic ending to this beautiful trilogy!
I really loved the way it ended but at the same time i'm conflicted because Veronica Roth killed off my favorite character. I think it was the only way she could have ended the series without it seeming like every other YA series and i admire her for that.
I LOVED ALLEGIANT! People r wimps and they r mad that she killed off tris, but that's what made it awesome! she took risks and its better than it would be if tris didn't die. for example, harry potter would be sorta lame if all those people didn't die. Sirius dying made you FEEL for the book!
If tris didn't die in allegiant, we would just have a boring story that almost seems fake because she would've been lucky to live. so tris dying also made it seem more real
