Okay, to find a book to read on a particular shelf, you can either go through each page of the shelf OR you can do it the way noted below. Now the way noted below isn't necessarily the easier way to do it, but it can be less time consuming on occasion. You do need to know exactly what the name of the shelf is. I'll post an example in a new post.Lisa if you go to your books page and then go to the right hand side where it says Genres on top and see top shelves on the bottom you can search there. Usually there isn't more than 30 pages on the popular books and you just do a control F search on each page for the shelf name. It doesn't take long and makes sure you know if your book is on that shelf.
Just make sure that you know exactly what the shelf is when doing the search.
I didn't realize that Goodreads has recently changed the amount of pages that are available when looking at shelves. It seems like this way might be the way to go from now on. You used to be able to keep going (I had one where I finally found a book I wanted to read on page 212 of the shelf, obviously that can't work anymore). For CassieV's situation, she had a book
she was interested in reading. She would have then gone to the top shelves part of the books page (see above post on how to get there). She then would have did control F on each page to search the page for the shelf name. She was on Books I Own (Connecticut), but for the search process she would have needed to search books-i-own since Goodreads changes spaces into hyphens.books-i-own is on the first page of shelves and it shows it was shelved that way 9 times. So it definitely counts for that shelf. If the book was shelved under book-i-own, that would not count or i-own, that wouldn't count either. It has to be exact, which with some shelves can be tricky.
The way this may be more time consuming is that your first choice book or maybe even your second, third, fourth and fifth choice books might not be shelved using that specific shelf name.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm sorry I didn't realize that Goodreads had limited the pages on each shelf sooner.
No worries, it works perfect for me now, because I like to use the books I currently have checked out from the library so that I can return them, but I'm not exactly known for reading uber-popular new releases. Or uber-popular anything, most of the time (I like wandering the different library branches and grabbing books without purpose because they looked interesting, and do the exact same thing at thrift stores and book stores). There have been sooooo many times where I had, like, 20 different books checked out from the library, and I was lucky if even one showed up on the 100 pages the list gives you. >_<
I'm glad this way will work out for you. I wish I had thought to repost all that since it was back on like page 4 or something in this thread in the middle of a bunch of other stuff. lolI"m glad you're liking the game and continuing to play!
This sounds like a lot of fun. I would love to start a game if someone else is down. I would probably read about 2-3 books a week.

Bryn, I would be interested in playing a game with you. When would you like to start?
By the way, feel free to 'compare books'. You'll find we both rated a certain book 5 stars :)

I am totally ready to start anytime. I do have finals the next two weeks so I might be a little slow at first but it seems really fun. Totally checked out your read books. That is a really good one to have in common. ;)
ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to popular demand there is now a version B to the Monopoly game. When requesting a game please let me know if you'd like to play the OG (original) version or version B.
With version B everything remains the same except the property/shelves and what you need to read to own them or what you do if they are owned.
I'm also changing the Pennsylvania Railroad requirement for both versions of the game moving forward. For the Railroad change, if you are currently in the middle of a game you can use the new requirement. For the other property/shelves change please finish your current game (or abandon it) and request a new game thread.

When we post our completion posts do we have to do a review for each book as part of the post?Or is leaving a review optional?
They don't have to be long reviews Sally. Just a couple sentences saying whether you liked it or not.
Paris wrote: "They don't have to be long reviews Sally. Just a couple sentences saying whether you liked it or not."Thank you for answering - I actually found where it said to do the review after I posted the question - DOH!!! But was on my iPhone App and couldn't delete it :)
Moral of the story - read the rules Sally, read the rules!!! ALL of the rules Sally - not just the bit you think is enough!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!
hahah oh Sally I've been there done that. And posting from the app is a pain in the ass especially when all you want to do is delete things.
Hi, now that summer break is close I would like to play a B type game. Is anyone interested to play?
Yeah they can :) You know where you find the tasks for the railroads? On the next line down it talks about what to do if they're owned. :)

Alright so Nancy and Brianna want to play a B game? Or would you both like to play separately? Because I don't mind playing however many games :p I always say yes to new challenges (mostly).
I would like to play a B game with you and possibly Brianna
Both? You mean play A and B game?
I mean both as in play a game with me as well as a game with Brianna and I :p So we'd be playing 3 Monopoly games together and a Battleships :p
I'm not sure if this is right area to ask this, but with the Monopoly game you play in real life. Do you go by rolling again when you get doubles like you do in the real game?
One quick question: After landing on the Chance card 'Get out of Jail free' do you just roll again? Or is there a task you need to do?
Maddison wrote: "One quick question: After landing on the Chance card 'Get out of Jail free' do you just roll again? Or is there a task you need to do?"You just r roll again and "hold on" to the card for future use,
Do you roll again when you get doubles?
NancyMaire wrote: "Do you roll again when you get doubles?"Q: what happens if you roll doubles? Anything? Or just go on as normal?
A: Nothing happens with doubles. I totally forgot all about rolling doubles. At this point, it only means something if you're in jail.

Really? That's how it's done? Well crap. I've been doing it wrong this whole time (I thought it had to be on the 100 pages of the list, no exceptions). No wonder it was so freaking hard.
