Recommendations for other thrillers with great plot twist/suprise ending

Off the top of my head, two come quickly to mind.

Fletch--Gregory Mcdonald
Primal Fear--William Bayer

They have both been made into movies so the surprise or twist may not be there if you have seen them. However, Fletch is well worth reading for the dialogue alone. So is the first sequel, Confess, Fletch. Marvelous humor, both.

A Kiss Before Dying by Ira Levin. It's an oldie, but a real goodie!! I also think The Butcher's Boy trilogy (The Butcher's Boy, Sleeping Dogs and The Informant) by Thomas Perry were great.

Presumed Innocent was soooo good ... I just discovered Hunting the Midnight Shark ... it definitely had some twists. You have to like action, though.

The lLast Dead Girl by Harry Dolan doesn't exactly make you wait to the last page to answer all of the twists and turns of the story but it's a thumping good read (to steal a phrase) all the way through. It was my first book by Dolan and I've just received his first two, Bad Things Happen and Very Bad Men. I'm finishing my latest (not hers but mine) Anne Holt book, Death of the Deamon and one of Harry's books will be my next.

Debbie, the Blood Work movie was lousy especially compared to the book. It was my first Connelly book and one of his stand-alone novels. He also has a series detective named Harry Bosch and another series called "The Lincoln Lawyer." I have enjoyed all of his books. I just finished The Gods of Guilt last week and thought it was a 4 or 5 star book.

The book was not exactly stand alone, but indeed the book was way better than the movie.

In addition to the authors mentioned, I recently discovered R.J. Ellory. My two favorites by him thus far were "A Quiet Belief in Angels" and "A Quiet Vendetta."

I also thought "The Given Day" and "Live by Night" by Dennis LeHane were fantastic. Although I must admit I hated "Shutter Island."

David Baldacci is an excellent author as well.

"True Crime" by Andrew Klavan is great and was also made into a movie with Clint Eastwood a few years back.

Definitely David Baldacci, though make sure you're getting a thriller. He also does YA and mainstream books. I just finished "King and Maxwell" this week and loved it.

Thanks. I saw the movie The Lincoln Lawyer and wasn't impressed. Guess I'd better quit watching the movies and read the books instead. I think I will try Blood Work. I liked the premise.

Read David Baldacci. Have loved most of his books, especially the first Will Robie.

Some of his earlier stand alone novels haven't been nearly as good as his Bosch or Lincoln Lawyer series. Those series are good though the last Bosch novel, The Black Box, seemed tired. That's the best way I can describe it. I'm looking forward to his next one, The Burning Room due out in November. I'm hoping that Box was just an anomaly.

John Verdon has written 4 books, all with the main character a retired NYPD detective of some renown. There are things in his books I don't like, to wit his interaction with his wife, but the twists and turns of the story kept me wondering until the villain was revealed. I haven't read the last one but I anticipate it will be as good as the first three.
