Rick Sterling | 2 comments I read this book over 25 years ago and don't remember much about it but I remember enjoying it.

The main character is transported in some way (through reading a book?) to an earth like world where norse mythology characters exist. Several characters were (norse?) gods.

One memory is of it being so cold that the campfire froze and a character grabbed the frozen pieces and stored them in a bag to use later.

Daphne | 247 comments L. Sprague deCamp has the book "The Incomplete Enchanter" that starts out with Harold Shea going to Norse myth-land. I can't find reference to the campfire thing though.

Congrats Rick. Isn't Sprague a great writer? I have a lot of his books. Including one that is autographed. (I was his bodyguard a couple of times at sci-fi conventions, so we had a little bit of "personal" type relationship, so I knew him and his wife.)
