Donna Moore | 96 comments Hi All,

I am trying to find a book I read whilst at high school - 1975-1978 - but probably published earlier. I think it is quite similar to Walkabout, but not it. I think there are two children, boy and girl, who are driving in the Australian outback with their uncle in a jeep or land rover type vehicle. They have a car crash, which the children survive, however, the uncle is killed - he is thrown forward onto the steering wheel, and the steering column pierces his chest.

I remember the children trying to get a large drum of water off the vehicle, when it slips and falls onto the girl's foot, breaking it.

The children then set off to find civilization. I am not sure if there are Aborigines in this book.
