Savannah- Quad Motherin' Book Readin' Diva (quadmom2005) | 1549 comments About to jump off the IR wagon for another long hiatus if I can't lay my hands on something decent. I know its all needles in haystacks, but if someone could point me in the direction of a really well written IR I'd name an ovary after you (sorry, but I'm done having babies).

I only have a few wishes. That the grammatical errors aren't on every page and it has a hero and heroine with a REAL problem, not just something they are throwing in their own way. Oh, and I'd really like it if the chick didn't get on my nerves being stupid when its obvious the man is into her. And if he's rich, PLEASE make him normal rich. Not, billionaire-at-25-office-type-who-we-never-really understand-what-he-does-and-never-see-him-actually- work.

Too much? Please try for me.

Paganalexandria | 4065 comments Savannah here are a couple I really like:

Her Russian Billionaire (50 Loving States #2) by Theodora Taylor - yes he's a billionaire, but think more Dmitry Medlov (with better editing) than Christian Grey

Player's Ultimatum by Koko Brown - I liked that he was a Brazilian soccer star and the story is set in Europe.

Promise to Keep by Priscilla Poole Rainwater - A really touching and smart read.

Rescued by Arlene Lam - Normally leery of historical IR, but this was kind of epic.

Ugh, I hate that. It's one of the main reason I started a book database before joining this site. I got sick of buying a book, not realizing it was an old one with a different cover or something I forgot about it. I would take my list with me when on binge at the used bookstore to avoid doing exactly what you just did. This was before ebooks.

Ahem... did you download Whiplash (Whiplash # 1) by Yvie Towers when it was free the other weekend?? Maybe try it?? I hate to plug my own stuff, but since you're at the end of your rope and all...

Savannah- Quad Motherin' Book Readin' Diva (quadmom2005) | 1549 comments Thanks Monica! Will do.

Shiree, I don't really care about genres..I read them all although its really rare that I find a paranormal IR that I like. That's nothing to do with an aversion, its just the pickings are already slim in that department so obviously less so for solid writing. Normally I go for contemporary.

Yvie, I DID. Its just on my phone (since, as previously noted I don't have a Kindle yet, just a Nook) and it drives me nuts reading on it, so I tend to only do it when I have no choice LOL. But you're right, its there and I need to do it.

No pressure, Savannah. I do think you may enjoy it, though. I do think it'll be different, and if nothing else at least you didn't come out of pocket, right? Also, I really liked
Prohibited An Erotic Novel by Donnee Patrese - loved in fact - it blew me away when I first read it, and I'm patiently waiting on the sequel (I think it comes out in December...next year) . Another one of hers I liked was Diary of a Wanted Woman by Donnee Patrese . I think I have both to lend - diary, for sure. Let me know.

LOL, Savannah, I looked at your shelves to see if you'd read some of my preferred IR authors.

You and I seemed to haved liked Savannah Frierson a bit, and a little of Pepper Pace.

Mercedes Keyes? Check: you read Bomaw and gave it 2 stars. So, maybe the continuing saga of Shawn and Sylvia[ and extended family] was a bit to drama drama! It reads like a good soap opera (guilty) but I can see how Sylvia could grate on a reader's nerves.

Aliyah Burke? Check: you read the first book in the Megalodon Team series, Harrier's Healer, and you gave it 3 stars. So, I thought "hmmm". I like this series okay, but I haven't given many of hers over 3 stars, so....

I am going to go out on a limb and recommend:

1. S.W. Frank's Alonzo series. It's mafia-like and the heroines will make you want to both strangle them and praise them. But, this series, IMO, produces a darn good story(its self-pub I think, so not monumentally polished but very decent writing).
ALFONZO
Ascension
Anarchy
2. Shelly Laurenston's Pack and Pride books. This author writes paranormal, so if you like that, then she makes it interesting because her characters are from many ethnicities and backgrounds (or at least she trues to be inclusive) and I have had fun reading some of her stories, including two that feature African American or brown-skinned heroines. They're hawt and humorous.
The Beast in Him
Go Fetch!(this one is bk#2 in the series & it would be good to read the previous book first)

For hotter reads, I'd say Thierry's Angel (Chevalier Men #1) by Shara Azod Forever Jade by Shara Azod from Shara Azod's Chevalier series are "decent".

Other "hot" ones that may get 3+ ish stars are:
Sunday by Kaia Bennett , a stand alone.
Every Road Leads Back to You by Kori Roberts , cute story, also stand alone.

One that surprised me, Once Upon a Story, it is short, but has a sweet and simple story to it as well as hotness.

I've read so many IR stories that I'm sure there's more that could be worth mentioning. Hopefully a few of the ones above will tempt you not to fall off the wagon.

I will check back on this thread to see how it goes.

Meeeh, while I'm all for women owning their sexuality, I'm not keen on reading about anybody obsessed with sex. I'm probably a lil' too Pollyanna for those characters LOL.

Val, I'm starting the Alfonzo series this weekend. I got the sample of the first book and thought it was solid writing, I was just afraid to commit considering it didn't give me ANY indication of the relationship the two main characters would end up having so that's always a fear thing with me. I like having at least a HINT lol. But I've seen a lot of ladies whose opinions I respect say good things about it, so I'm gonna tackle it.

Laurenston seems to focus more on the paranormal aspect vs the romance aspect. I like it the other way around. I do like the genre though.

If I was honest, I'd probably go back and give that first Aliyah Burke book I read a 2, but I thought maybe I was being harsh. The heroine irked me beyond words...jumped around too much, was too weak willed in the face of an overbearing and TRULY emotionally abusive family. I mean, I've gotten into books where that was the case and the heroine was brow beaten but I understood. Burke didn't give me enough insight into her heroine to make me feel any empathy for her. She just came off lame. LOL

OK, can y'all tell the gloves are off with me these days?

I'm gonna go through the stand alones you listed and see if I can find something that peaks my interest. Its probably just the mood I'm in this week. Cantankerous!

I did anAlfonzo Buddy Read with a few gals, which has discussion questions for the first 5 volumes or so. There are about 12 or 13 installments right now. I still have 3 or 4 to read. This series focuses of romance and conflict equally. There's (view spoiler). IDK, what are your deal breakers?

Savannah, I forgot to ask, did you like it when you read it before? I was just looking at your latest reviews and you weren't lying. You got a whole bunch of stinkers back to back. No wonder you wanted to take a step back from the sub-genre for a second.

Sorry, been sick! Dang cold tried to take a sista plum OUT.

I thought it was ...ok. It just seemed like it meandered. A lot. And from my LIMITED knowledge of the era, it seems to me like this guy played Russian roulette with the heroines life in some ways. He was so....casual about it. Like oh well, I want her so I don't care therefore nothing bad will happen. That seems so unrealistic. And I never really felt like I got invested in either of them. I felt like I was being TOLD they had this great love. I didn't see it.

But the writing itself was solid I suppose.

Savannah- Quad Motherin' Book Readin' Diva (quadmom2005) | 1549 comments Vallsykes wrote: "what are your deal breakers?"

Deal breakers:
Heroines who deny deny deny the attention of obviously GOOD men for no apparent reason.
Inconsistent adjectives; ie, she has "ebony" skin, but the next page she's blushing all rosy cheeked and he's leaving red hand prints on her behind.
Misuse of common phrases.
An overabundance of grammatical errors. I may not know what I'm doing when I write a paragraph, but I'm not cranking out books.
Sex as a storyline. LOL In other words, they boink every other page and all of a sudden, its luuuurve. Pfft.

Yes you may! Read the synopsis and I am INTRIGUED. Where can I find the samples? I gotta say, your storylines sound refreshingly original:)Adding them to my list. Thank you!

Savannah, Gone With The Wind is one of my favorite books, so it might account for my love of Rescued. It's the best written IR I've found in that mold. You are so right about the hero's actions. My review did mention how the hero's behaviour could have gotten her killed. I think the unexpected road to HEA also cinched its place on my favorites list.
