There is no way to remove a series from just some editions. All editions of a work are part of a series, or none are.

Apparently the alternate-cover edition was deleted - that file had the new (blue) cover that should replace
the old (blue) cover. The old blue cover is from the paperback distributor and is not suitable for online display; the new cover that was in the deleted alternate-cover edition was designed for online display and we expected it would replace the old (blue) cover when the default and the alternate were merged.
So, can we start over again? How can we have a different cover displayed for https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Also, the older 1st Edition of Yang Shen, Book I is still availabe in paperback on Amazon, and Yankee Mandarin is available as a free eBook from the publisher Old China Books (oldchinabooks.com). We have updated the descriptions for these two titles accordingly.

Thank you for resuscitating the "ace." Should we now go to the ace page and set this book as primary, then update the description and ISBN? Or will "Combine Editions" somehow combine the ace and the other 2nd Edition version? Actually, "combine editions" is a lilttle intimidating as it shows all the several versions and only one button, implying that clicking on the combine button will produce a polyglot creature like a Chinese mythical beast - body of a lion, head of a goat, feathers of a chicken: Yankee Yang God from the Mandarin Shen Book I.
Only the 1st Edition (red cover) shows in James Lande's Books at https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... the author's page. May we also have the 2nd Edition (blue cover) listed here? Would it be correct to assume that once we have the 2nd Edition straight, and it is made primary, that the 2nd Edition will them appear in James Lande's Books?
And, as we have pointed out, because both Yang Shen Book I 1st Edition, Yang Shen Book I 2nd Edition, and Yankee Mandarin are all available (and not out of print), should they not all appear in James Lande's Books?

If you bring up an example of both the old and new blue covers, click on each in turn and you'll see how much more clear is the wording on the new blue cover. The old blue cover, which comes from the paperback submitted by the printer/distributor, has lines at the top that are illegible as a thumbnail image, which appears to the potential reader as trashy and amateur, more so that the other blue cover, anyway.
In the GR Search, neither "Yang Shen" "Yang Shen 2nd Edition" nor "God from the West" bring up the newer 2nd Edition. Only the 1st Edition appears.

To answer your first question, yes, I would go to the ACE and set it as the default edition, as it is the most recently produced version and what's available on Amazon. But that's really up to you as the author. And yes, I have combined them all together, and that does sort of create a polyglot, but all of those editions are versions of the same book, yes? If so, then combining them is consistent with Goodreads policy. Moreover, it will pool all the accumulated ratings and reviews together, which is generally a good thing from the author's perspective...
Please do NOT change the ISBNs on any editions. They are all currently valid entries, and changing them is against Goodreads policy. The point of the default cover edition function is to allow authors to display new covers on reissues without vandalizing the valid data on old editions.
As for the red cover edition, the default edition is what appears on the author page. Unless set otherwise, Goodreads shows whatever the most popular edition is (whatever has been shelved by the most users). Setting the new cover as the default edition will change that. Instead, the new cover will show on your author page and will be the first thing users see when searching for your book.
To answer your question about all three books appearing on your page (and sorry to sound repetitive), because all three editions are versions of the same book, they have been combined according to GOodreads policy. You will only see one edition visible on your author page, and that will be whichever edition you set as the default.
Speaking of searching, the Goodreads search engine is... odd. Sadly, librarians have no control over it. Sorry!
And lastly, the series link that is dead will eventually go away of its own accord. Series are heavily cached on Goodreads, and changes can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate through the system.
