⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Jojo, I just got word from booklending.com this morning that they won't be able to fulfill my request for More than Meets the Ink. Since Lendle had an even longer wait time than BookLending did, I'm going to concede defeat on this one. As such, I've removed it from my possibles list and my to-read shelves. I've got its partner, Key of Light, also in my list of possibles this month, so I'm planning on making it a priority to get to! Thank you anyway for the pick, and I hope the rest work out better than this one!

Unfortunately, my costume has gotten too small for me...two kids will do that! But I would have been dressed up as a Star Trek Captain, if I could have!

MountainKat | 31599 comments Hina wrote: "Since we still have a another day to go....anyone dressing up tomorrow for Halloween?"

I don't have small kids anymore, so I don't have to do Halloween! Never was my holiday, but you wouldn't have known that when I was making costumes for the kids! Although the extent of decorations for us was always just some jack o'lanterns - one for each of the kids.

message 276: by ❆ Crystal ❆ (new)

❆ Crystal ❆ (crystal_wright) LOL.... I plan on going as a tired, disheveled working mother... It'll be real easy dressing for that one. LOL

message 277: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 384 comments Crystal - I'm with you on that one.

I'll be taking my son trick-or-treating tomorrow, but this is the first year in a while that I didn't do an all-out party for the kids. Last year we even did the cauldron with dry ice and all sorts of scary/fun foods that the kids loved like witches with hats made out of marshmallows and candy. We even did biscuit-wrapped hot dogs and called them mummies on a stick. This year it's sloppy joes. Ah well, at least it is my all-time favorite food.

message 278: by Debra (new)

Debra (countrymom6) | 166 comments No dressing up for me either unless tired mom is a costume!!?? But kids are using my old dresses from prom 20 years ago and a dress another daughter wore when I got married and the boys are going in jeans and button up shirts and dads cowboy hats as cowboys!! It's getting expensive to buy costumes for like more then one kid!! But our town is doing trunk or treat at the church and certain business also will give out candy and then certain areas that our small town neighborhood have house blocks that ppl hand out candy!!

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I've got one done already! November is the month of giving thanks and today I am thankful for a job that allows me to read during downtime! I started Santa's Executive this morning at 8am my time and just finished it! What a great read to prep for the holidays! I highly recommend it and thank you so much, Jojo, for making it a pick for me this month!

message 283: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I finished Silk Is For Seduction this morning. Not quite sure how I feel about it. Gave it 3 stars in my review, but it dragged for the first half of the book for me, to the point where I didn't want to finish it. I kept with it, and it did get a bit better, but it's one that I am unsure I want to purchase. I do know that I want to continue with the series, the supporting characters impressing me at least that much, so we'll see how things pan out after the second book. Started The Princess Bride this morning, but it is so cluttered with introductions, I haven't even started the story yet! Not sure I'm going to like that...

Yes it was great and there are plenty more in the series but each is a stand alone. Im reading now "Crossing Borders" so far very very good.

Yay! I'm so glad you loved it Christina - it is one of my favorites, well actually the whole series is!

When were you thinking of starting our buddy read of Simply Irresistible? I was thinking about the middle of the month if that works for you, maybe as early as the 11th? I could probably make earlier work if you wanted.

message 291: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Jen wrote: "Totally new to this, how does it work? Thanks"

Hi Jen, the best place to look is in the first post of the thread. It explains this challenge and gives tips too. Basically, towards the end of the month a thread for the next month is posted where you sign up for the challenge - you will have to wait a couple of weeks at this point for December's challenge to be posted. You answer whatever question in asked when you sign up and that helps to sort the participants into different groups. When sign-ups close, the picking rules are posted and the pairings are posted. Following the picking you rules, you pick books for someone else to read while a different person picks books for you. To complete the challenge, you just have to read one of the books picked for you. Hope that answered your question!

message 292: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Hi Joyce, I finished my first pick. I read French Cooking 101 today and gave it 3* - it was too short to have much depth, but enjoyable enough that I will pick up the second book to see where things go. Thanks for the pick! I plan to get to at least one more book, but hopefully more this month!

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Just finished another read...Too Hot To Touch! The Princess Bride really put me off with all the introductions, so I moved it to one of the reads that I might get to this month. Too Hot To Touch was really good, and I'm eager to start the second book in the series!
