November 2013 Monthly Challenge - Suggestion thread
4. Sadie Hawkins Day (November 3rd): This is the holiday where the girl asks the guy to the dance. Read a book where the heroine is the pursuer or has what is typically a "man's" job (fireman, construction worker, etc).Any chance we can have another option added to this?
I read m/m so girls only MC makes this a bit difficult.
Is it okay if the girl with the odd job is not one of the two main (romantically) characters?
THanks for your consideration.

Though I would prefer and option that doesn't involve a female character at all since a lot of my books just don't have any female characters except the "mom"

I'm trying to think of another variation to help keeping the Sadie Hawkins theme. I will add the option of a character being a dancer in the spirit of the Sadie Hawkins dance.
Hah! Happy to be of service, ladies. I'm sorry I didn't think of it on my own. Thanks for the links, Fran. I was going to work on that a bit this evening. You rock!
I have a question - here in the 'Suggestion Thread', you have different options for the geography category, but in the Participant thread the other options are down at the bottom labeled as a bonus. Are they options for the geography category or a bonus?
Hi Kat!Tina, I hope you don't mind me jumping in...
The Fun Facts about Montana are meant as options for the Geography category, just as they are shown on this page, not as a bonus :)
Thanks Fran, that is was I figured. I just wanted it confirmed before I started picking out books. If it hadn't said BONUS in the participant thread I wouldn't have questioned it
Found this freebie on Amazon today...looks cute, a short Thanksgiving romance story -
The Bird Day Battalion
I have a question please...For #6, does it have to be a pregnancy or can I use a woman who unexpectedly becomes a mother of two children?
Penney wrote: "I have a question please...For #6, does it have to be a pregnancy or can I use a woman who unexpectedly becomes a mother of two children?"
Penney, I think it needs to be due to an unexpected pregnancy just because the category is about making babies. If she ended up with the children due to an unexpected pregnancy and the mom dumping the kids we can use that.

I recently listened to American Love Songs - funny, touching and oh so good! I thought the audio was especially good too! (Karen thought it was just OK, it is usually the other way around - she is usually more tolerant than me.) Either way, it was a fun book with a lovely story!
Question - Did the dancer part get added to #4? It isn't listed on either the participant or suggestion thread in the category description. If it is added, is the character dancing (like at a club or wedding) sufficient or do they need to be a professional dancer?
The dancer did get added to #4. I'm sure I saw it on the Participants post but now it's not there. Unless I saw it somewhere else?I'm pretty sure it said ' read a book with a dancer or someone who goes to a dance.'
Let's wait for Tina to confirm and change the post in both threads.
I'm glad you said that Fran, because I was positive I'd seen the same thing and now it's not there...nice to know I'm not losing my mind completely!
I copied it out of the post and that is what I had on my desktop stickie, but then I went back to see if dancing would be enough and it was gone… I'm so glad it wasn't just me!
I think maybe when Tina went back in to change the Geography category to include the fun fact choices it somehow got deleted. That's my guess, anyway :)
Yikes! I didn't mean to delete and play a trick on you guys...lol. I will fix it right away and hopefully not delete anything important in the process.
Tina "coffee and books" wrote: "Yikes! I didn't mean to delete and play a trick on you guys...lol. I will fix it right away and hopefully not delete anything important in the process."No worries Tina! Thanks for fixing it! I have deleted/changed words in a post when editing plenty of times, LOL.
Hi Tina! I think in the confusion about stuff accidentally getting deleted my question got over looked. So I'll just ask again! Is the character/couple dancing (like at a club or wedding) sufficient or do they need to be a professional dancer for #4 (Sadie Hawkins Day)? Would it need to be organized dancing as opposed to dinner and dancing at home? And I just know I'm going to read a book that has a ball in it and none of this is going to matter!
MountainKat wrote: "Hi Tina! I think in the confusion about stuff accidentally getting deleted my question got over looked. So I'll just ask again! Is the character/couple dancing (like at a club or wedding) suffic..."
Lol. I don't think they have to be a professional, but a dance, wedding, ball, etc would be perfect. Or even if the character dances at home enough that it is part of the plot or mentioned a lot it will work, too.
Thanks Tina! I thought of this while reading a book where the couple dances, but then things started blowing up too and I couldn't help but to think that I should have saved it for November!
MountainKat wrote: "Thanks Tina! I thought of this while reading a book where the couple dances, but then things started blowing up too and I couldn't help but to think that I should have saved it for November!"I hate when that happens....lol.
For the Red Planet category: Any chance Knight of a Trillion Stars might qualify? The heroine isn't a scientist, but she is a sci-fi geek. The H/h travel to another planet (his world), and quite a bit is made of the heroine having red hair.:-)
Julie, I would say definitely yes. I would definitely consider a sci-fi geek interested in the planets.
Carla wrote: "Is okay if I change my mind and change the book, that I post first place?"That's perfectly fine, Carla. A lot of people (including me) don't even post a list before starting the month, but just make it up as we go. I'm constantly shuffling what goes where, and even dropping books entirely and replacing them with something different...the joys of juggling multiple challenges! :D
Sorry it took me so long to respond. My home internet hates me these days. Thanks for getting that, KarenH.I am constantly shuffling my picks around.
I have a question - if I read Vengeance in Death, can I use it for N? The cover says Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb.
Hmmmm, no response yet? Even though I'm a mod now, I still don't feel right answering my own question. Does anyone have any thoughts?Oh well, I have other options - I just wanted an excuse to read this one. I might anyway!
Fran wrote: "Kat,Maybe PM Tina with your question? She might not have seen it."
Well, now that would have been smart!! It's ok, I was sweating things a little, then I sat down and found some other options. AND told myself (over and over) it is only the 21st!
I'm sorry, MountainKat. We had a tornado hit Tuesday and it knocked out all internet. If you haven't found anything else please feel free to use it. I loved the book!
Tina "coffee and books" wrote: "I'm sorry, MountainKat. We had a tornado hit Tuesday and it knocked out all internet. If you haven't found anything else please feel free to use it. I loved the book!"A tornado! How are you? I hope your house/community didn't sustain any bad damage.

I did find another option and have started it - really good so far! I just couldn't find an N book that interested me at all at first. I will be starting the In Death book today as well. I had to have a talk with myself and remind me that there was still plenty of time in the month!! I guess with starting to plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I got a little panicky, but I talked myself down! =)
