Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I was in "Victorians!" for a while, and that was a good one too, but I left when I realised I'd never actually posted anything! Reckoned in that case I could obviously do without that one. The ones you post most in are probably your favourites, aren't they.

message 102: by Pink (new)

Pink Yep and I post here several times a day, its easy to get lost within some of the much bigger groups, so while they're good for book ideas and group reads, they're not so personal for discussing books or just having a chat

message 103: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I agree, this is about the right size. Just a few hundred. When I look at new groups though there are dozens which just have one member, or maybe two! Can't see the point of that at all.

Hey, Pink I though you said you were off to bed (on a different thread) about an hour ago! Time for me now I think. zzzzz

I will be finishing up "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy and "Bleak House" by Charles Dickens. Other than that, I am going to get to "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote and "Vanity Fair" by William Makepeace Thackeray. Hopefully I don't have too much homework so I can get to all of them.

message 105: by Pink (new)

Pink Yes jean I was off to bed, but between putting my book down and walking upstairs to bed with my phone I often find a new burst of energy!

Lissa, lots of great choices for the month, some I've read and others I'd like to.

I thought Bleak House was great! War and Peace has scared me because of its length so I look forward to hearing what you think of it once you finish. Loved Vanity Fair and am currently listening to an adaptation on BBC Radio, with the wonderful Stephen Fry narrating :)

I loved Vanity Fair as well. Great choice. Let us know what you think of War and Peace . I loved Anna Karenina so I should get round to it soon

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) That is such a good adaptation Leslie - I listened alongside reading the book a few weeks ago. Here's my review of Vanity Fair

I thought they managed to miss out quite a lot of the overblown passages whilst retaining all the wit and much of the actual prose. And for someone who's not that keen on Stephen Fry, I found myself thinking how perfectly he was cast!

Lissa, (or anyone) I've also done a review of "In Cold Blood" - an incredible book I thought - if you're interested.

Holly (hollycoulson) Frankenstein is amazing, Amber. It is amazingly written!

message 112: by dely (new)

dely | 5214 comments A new book came across my way so I must add it to my books to read in this month. It's Centosette (sorry, no English edition) and I have won it with the giveaways of GR. Every time I win a book I am too curious to read it so I start it as soon as I receive it.

I will!

message 115: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) I thought I'd have a break from classics, and read Mockingjay (the final book of the Hunger Game trilogy) after I finish Middlemarch. Hopefully I'll get it done quickly, I have way too much to read this month!

I could never get through The Silmarillion, despite the fact that I must have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy 15 times or more! I'll be interested to hear what you think once you are done :)

I think it is good to vary genres and/or literary styles. I assume you have read the first 2 Hunger Games books...

message 118: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) Leslie, I have read the first two. I enjoyed the start of the revolution at the end of the second book, but everyone I've talked to has really disliked Mockingjay. I kind of want to read it just to find out why everyone dislikes it so much!

message 119: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I'm reading Through the Zombie Glass right now which is a pretty good read and I'll go back and read the first book of the white rabbit chronicles series after The Child Thief which I'm getting from the overdrive ebook library next and may do it as a readalong.

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't mind Mockjngjay but it certainly wasn't the best of the 3 books. Great ending though!

message 121: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) Heather, everyone I've talked to hated the ending! I definitely want to know what happens now!

I have to agree, I think not having the actual Hunger Games in Mockingjay ruined the book a bit.

message 123: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) You're all making me really want to read it, and I still have 80 pages of Middlemarch to read yet! Hopefully I can get it started tonight though!

message 124: by Pink (new)

Pink I quite liked Mockingjay, though it was different from the first two books. I know that most people hated this one, so I'll be interested to see what you make of it Holly. Only 80 pages of Middlemarch to go (or less now) :)

message 125: by Holly (last edited Nov 05, 2013 10:30AM) (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) I feel like Middlemarch is coming together now which is great. Part of me doesn't want to finish, but the other half knows it's been a long journey and I'll be happy to tick it off my list!

Mockingjay is currently sitting on my bedside cabinet calling to me... I'm almost glad there is no Hunger Games in it. I found Catching Fire's games rather repetitive...

It is akways like this with really good books: on one hand you want to read quickly, on the other you'd never want them to leave you!

message 128: by Amber (new)
