I would recommend this book for anyone starting the series. Then they could read each short story in order between the books. It would have been nice to have had this...some of stories provide some useful insight.
You both Rock! Thank you so much for explaining this to me - otherwise I would have been excited for a new book and disappointed when I realized it wasn't what I thought it was.
Anyway, I agree, it would be nice to have - I have a few gaps I would like to fill in:)

Yes. This was posted by another group member on another thread and from what I can tell, it is pretty accurate. It really helps to know this! I was kind of lost during book 4 b/c I did not read the short story in between.

Yeah, I think that One Word Answer should have been included in Definitely Dead because otherwise it's confusing. Also personally, I've read them all and I really don't much care for the short stories.
I have not read the short stories but i didn't have any trouble with Definietly Dead... what is confusing about it and/or what do learn about sookie that is important?
Well, it sets up the plot, because you just get the Hadley's dead at the beginning of the book, you aren't told how, why, or especially what her connection to the Vampire Queen is. But "One Word Answer" is about Mr. Cataliades showing up and discussing what happened with Sookie and what should and needs to be done, which is essential to Definitely Dead.

Can't wait for Season 2 on HBO - I am so Team Eric!
