I just started All the Rage by F. Paul Wilson, a Repairman Jack story. The first 30 pages or so are not all that great. Has anyone read this book and liked it or disliked it?I've got lots of other books to read if this one is a loser.
Thanks!
Finished reading"The Fifth Woman" by Henning mankell. My first book by a Swedish Author.Excellent book.If you have not read it do give it a try.Usually a super sleuth does all the thinking and finds all the answer. This book is different. It describes how a police investigation team functions. The police inspector is more or like any corporate manager. Paperwork, meetings, discussions, presentations, brainstorming etc etc and the ideas come from various memebers of the team.It brings out how painstaking an investigation process is.
Sounds more realistic. If any of the group memeber is a police person and has read this book please do let us know if the police function the way it is described in the book.Quite impressive.
My next book is Mystic River by Dennis Lehane.
I'm currently reading the third Lincoln Rhyme book - The Coffin Dancer
and really enjoying it so far
I've just started Even by Andrew Grant (who is Lee Child's brother). Only a couple of chapters in but his storyline is very similar to something Lee would write for Reacher. Liking it so far.
Just finished Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2-day read-- loved it) and immediately started The Girl who played with Fire... worth the month wait!
I'm hoping to rush thru dinner so I can steal away and finish book #2... and like you, I'm already looking forward to the next installment... love Lisbeth and Blomqvist!
I'm reading Mr. Timothy by Louis Bayard, and I just started The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I'm thoroughly enjoying both!
Just finished the marvellous Keeping the Dead - Tess Gerritsen. Will now read Genesis - Karin Slaughter.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Just finished the marvellous Keeping the Dead - Tess Gerritsen. Will now read Genesis - Karin Slaughter."I am guessing keeping the dead is the British title? Do you know what the American title is?
I would love to discuss Genesis/Undone when you are done with it.
I've also enjoyed several of Tess Gerritsen's novels. The Surgeon and The Mephisto Club are two of my favorites.JP O'Donnell

The Keepsake is the American version sweetie.
I can't wait to chat to u about Genesis/Undone when I am finished. Can I just ask, if u noticed the writing is smaller than her previous books or is it me lol?

JP, The Keepsake/Keeping the Dead is book 7 in the series incase you might wanna read it. As the 2 you have mentioned are part of that series x
Thanks for the update. I'll check out some of the other books in the series. I met Tess at a medical fiction writing program. She is also a great writing teacher.

Yeah I loved Keeping the Dead. But I will keep reading Karin Slaughter's book as I love her books. Can I ask if I need to read Triptych & Fractured before I read Genesis/Undone
Decided to get Karin Slaughter's Genesis on audio in the nxt week or so. I am now gonna read Gravity - Tess Gerritsen

Gave up on Gravity - Tess Gerritsen cos it wasn't my cup of tea. Now I am listening to White Teeth - Zadie Smith.
Finishing up A Plague on Both Your Houses. Pretty good, although there are too many characters and names for me to keep straight... my advancing middle age, or something... and the festering buboes are kinda gross too!
I've got a Maigret coming up next, which I'm looking forward to: Maigret and the Headless Corpse

I am listening to Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It has probably been almost 40 years since I last read it and I am really enjoying it.
I finished The Likeness by Tana French and also Hardball by Sara Paretsky. I liked both especially V.I. in the Sara series as the locale is always in Cgo. you always kind of know who the bad guys are but oh, what V.I. goes thru to bring them to justice. I look forward to reading the next book by Tana I think I will not read Into the Woods unless someone tells me it's fabulous. Will get started on "working stiff" by Annelise Ryan per your reviews I look forward to a good read.
Just finished the great Five on a Treasure Island - Enid Blyton. Will now carry on reading The Armada Boy - Kate Ellis.
JG wrote: "It's a fantastic read, Donna!"Oh Good! A lot of people have been telling me to read it and I saw that it was a quick read so...??
I am almost 100 pages in and so far so good, not great, but good thus far!
It was a group read in our Wild Things: YA Grown-Up group a few months ago. You're welcome to to check out our discussion over there when you're finished, if you'd like. I believe most of us loved it.
I am reading Mass Killers by Bill Wallace. It is a true crime book about killers that have killed more than one person - either by war crimes, or in an explosion or on a killing spree. A very good book. Well worth a read!
Ashley wrote: "I'm reading Mr. Timothy by Louis Bayard, and I just started The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I'm thoroughly enjoying both!"I liked Sweetness alot let me know what you think as I don't know anyone else who has read it.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Just finished the great Five on a Treasure Island - Enid Blyton."I was a big Famous Five fan - I owned the whole series - and Treasure Island was my favourite. A friend recently bought it for my children so I'm reading it again.
Just finished the delightful The Armada Boy - Kate Ellis. Think I will now read Case Histories - Kate Atkinson for my next book as I have wanted to know what her books are like.

HeadhunterHi,I am new to this group, but getting lots of great suggestions for books. THanks so much.
I am reading several things at once, which I usually do depending on my mood. I would recommend Michael Slade's books. THey are excellent. I believe they are mis-placed in genre at the bookstore. They are in the horror section, I am assuming because they are graphic with some of the crimes, etc. But it is not really horror like some Steven King, etc. They are really, really good mysteries. Start with Headhunter and work your way through them. THanks again for all the suggestions. Happy Reading.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Just finished the delightful The Armada Boy - Kate Ellis. I'll be interested in hearing what you think.

I love the Reacher books so much and would love to have another series or author that wrote books like his. I am going to look him up now and order something of his, any suggestions??? Thanks

It started out good but I quickly became disappointed with it. There were too many characters, and the main "hero" didn't figure out something that I thought was obvious. The story wasn't horrible, but I couldn't in good conscience recommend it. If you're curious I would suggest getting it from the library and trying it out. I love Child too, and enjoy most of the Reacher books. I have his newest waiting on my shelf now.
