I really hope now that Locke and Jean have escaped, they will stop being so badly outclassed. But I'm not optimistic.
It seems like Mr. Lynch thinks the only way to tell a story is to constantly make his protagonists look like idiots, despite being quite the contrary.
Meanwhile the flashback story is pretty good.

I read it as Locke getting knocked out by the poison first - then they take Jean out.
Nope. I disliked the final book of his first series so much plus the new series isn't complete yet that I'm not in a hurry to check it out. Your comment pushes it a bit further down my list too.
