Second quarter - (view spoiler)[America is draining me! She only wants Aspen at the dance after she felt Maxon was ignoring her. After she found out this wasn't the case, she all but forgot about him. I understand that she can't turn her emotions on and off for him, but it seems like she is playing with the boy who is obviously still devoted to her, when she was two to share her feelings.

I felt so sorry for Marlee and her public caning. I wonder how long they have been inside the palace though, for her to fall so madly in love with Carter that they would risk possible execution to be together? Wasn't there a way for her to leave the Selection and then them be together, I wonder?

Following this, more Aspen, Maxon, and American love triangle discontent as well as the selection girls falling apart and having their own dramas. I can't believe their had a physical fight in front of the queen! (hide spoiler)]

I am sad about what happened to Marlee and Carter. It is awful that this is their punishment when this is supposed to be the future when this seems like this would happen in the 15th century and to do it in front of everyone and her parents.

I like America's family they are so sweet. Besides Kota, he is just using America now because she is in the Selection.

I love that Maxon talked to America's father about him staying with America. Her father is so kind, also ironic that he was talking to Maxon where America and Maxon always talk.

I hate that America is still talking to Aspen (and getting jealous when he talks to other girls) while thinking about marrying Maxon it isn't fair to him and if he finds out it will break him and she can't get over Aspen if she still is around him. (hide spoiler)]

I just hope America helps Marlee afterwards and still talks to Marlee no matter what she did because Marlee needs a friend after that.

Also, I hope America still stays with Maxon so maybe she can change the way they handle punishment and the laws because it is messed up. She might not think she is royalty material but she is a good leader and knows what is right and whats not in society. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[I really didn't feel much for this book. I didn't actively hate it, but nothing really stood out either. I wanted to focus more on the found diary entries rather than the back-and-forth feelings between Maxon and America and hope more about that will transpire in future books. Even though these are rereads I don't remember much, beyond book one.

I was confused by the rebels and how easily they managed to repeatedly infiltrate the palace. One moment everything would be fine and the next there were unknown individuals inside the walls. It seemed too sudden and I wanted to explore just how they were getting in so easily. Where were the guards? Why aren't they better at their job or why aren't there more of them placed around the palace perimeter? (hide spoiler)]

I don't understand why America is letting Aspen sneak around she obviously saw what happens when you do that. I think he is kind and has a good heart but Maxon isn't any less than him. She was just sure that Maxon was for her and now she thinks he is slipping from her when she isn't doing anything to stop it either. She is so blind sometimes it makes me irritated at her.


Also, Celeste had that coming especially after what she said to Anna. I just wonder if she is just being hateful to be hateful or if she was just born hateful either way it is rude. (hide spoiler)]

I like how she keeps thinking the prince doesn't care for her as much, when I think he really does.

I am soo happy Marlee is safe!!! I love that Maxon is secretly keeping Marlee here for America and was okay to give her away to marry Carter. I am so glad she wasn't going to get sent away and never see America!!!

I really didn't like Aspen discouraging America's abilities and how good she would be as queen because she has such a sweet heart to others. It proves when she was willing to tell good things about the girls although they are competing and her standing up for Marlee although that didn't really help much. I love that her father and the Princess told her she could be a great leader.

I wish America had talked to the girl about what she was doing because maybe the girl would have told her something or asked if she was okay to come off friendly.

I don't think America has the right to be jealous of what Maxon thinks of Kris when she is still talking to Aspen.

Also, I wonder why the King didn't speak to her that day like he did with the others. I hope it wasn't personal or anything. (hide spoiler)]

I still don't understand how she is getting upset about Kriss when she is going behind Maxons back and kissing Aspen.

I don't think I like the King he is seeming sketchy. I don't think he is giving Maxon "tests" because why would he lie to his wife. I could be wrong but I don't understand why the King doesn't like America and why he is lying to his wife.

Overall, I wish we could see other peoples point of view because I don't like how America assumes the worst and gets it all wrong and accuses people because of it and because I need to know more because it is all very confusing. (hide spoiler)]
