Careful to not get the door dirty, Marcie grabbed he handle with her pinkies and opened it for Bastian. "This way, good sir," she said with a flourish.
"My thanks madam." He bowed as he passed and walked past the rows of books to the shop counter. He placed down a case and lit some oil lanterns, then headed into the back room. "The sink is this way!" He called out.
Following after him, Marcie made sure she didn't bump into anything else. Upon seeing the sink, she went over and turned on the faucet. Sliding to the side to make room for him to share, she commented, "Your kitchen is lovely."
"Thank you, I still enjoy normal food, even though it doesn't sustain me." He moved in and began washing his hands free from the thin layer of blood.
Drying her hands on a kitchen towel she found, Marcie held out to him when she was done. "I suppose that makes sense. If only there was such thing as a chocolate vampire or something. I wouldn't mind living off chocolate for the rest of my days," Marcie said, giving a laugh.
Bastian took the towel and dried his hands, chuckling. "I wouldn't mind that." He smiled and hung the towel back up. "Can I offer you anything? Now that I'm settled, I try to keep as much to a nocturnal schedule as I can, so it's still early in the day for me."
"Well, I spend late nights for writing, so I'm practically a nocturnal person myself." Marcie took the liberty to seat down at the kitchen table, folding her hands in front of her. "Tea is just fine with me."
"Well if you ever need somewhere to write, my shop is open and quiet." He began making a pot of tea, and got a small vial of blood as well which he put on his saucer. "Tea or sugar?"
She silently questioned the vial of blood, but decided that she didn't want to know. It's going to be hard to make the transition. "Sugar. Two cubes, please."
Bastian took the now steeped tea and poured her a cup, he then added two sugars and stirred them in. "Here you are." He then took his own cup and poured a little blood in, and stirred it. He looked up at her apologetically.
Marcie took the cup gratefully, her fingers feeling a little cold. Taking a sip, she noticed his apologetic face and she set down her cup on the saucer with a click. "You don't have to be ashamed of who you are. You're a vampire now and nothing's going to change that," Marcie said firmly yet gently.
Bastian nodded and sipped his tea. "Thank you for being so understanding Marcie."
Reaching out to place her hand on his shoulder, she smiled warmly at him. "No need to thank me. Someone should, so why not be me? I'm glad you trust me enough with the full truth."
Bastian smiled at her and looked at her. "I'm glad I can too, and it feels good to tell you." He placed his tea cup down and put his hand on her for a brief moment and then removed it.
Though she was surprised at the gesture, Marcie didn't show it. She suddenly wasn't sure if she was being too forward or she put herself out there, but her emotions were twisting up. Sean and now Bastian. She gave his shoulder a small squeeze before withdrawing her hand and taking a sip. "What else has changed since you've become a vampire?" she asked conversationally.
"Well, I've had to hide myself, and I can't go out into full sunlight without covering up. I've been reading up on vampire folklore, but I don't know if I have any powers, I haven't tried it yet." He sipped his tea and sat back in his chair.
"It would be interesting to find out. I hope you aren't part of the folklore of kidnapping girls as well, because I suppose that would put me in a dangerous position," Marcie said joking, giving him a playful wink.
Bastian chuckled. "You never know." He winked playfully. "I hope I have some powers, it would make up for the blood drinking and the weakness to fire and sunlight. At least I'm immortal, and I heal wounds quite quickly, although my hair never grows, I have to be careful about that."
"Oh, dear. Does that mean you can't grow an impressive beard or mustache? Gosh, I wanted to see that." She gave a mock sigh and shook her head. "Life is full of disappointments."
"I'm afraid not, I quite wanted one as well." He pretended to stroke an invisible moustache. "Some men have all the luck."
She put her hands up as if she was weighing invisible objects. "Being immortal versus growing a beard, I can't tell which one would be more satisfying for a man."
"I guess it would depend on how one spent that immortality." He sipped his tea and contemplated immortality. It was a strange thought.
((That reminds me of this youtube video I watched. "I'm in awe of my concept of eternity." Bravest Warriors.))"Maybe after you find your fiancée, you could spend it with her," Marcie blurted out before she realized it might be a touchy subject. The woman turned him into a vampire after all and not only that, but ran away as well.
Bastian's face fell slightly. "That was her reasoning for biting me, she left me a note explaining herself, so I came to find her."
Pursing her lips slightly, Marcie's brow creased with concern and thought. "But why run?" she whispered almost to herself. Looking up at him, she smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry for bringing that up. I suppose I'm being nosy."
"Don't worry about it." He said. He sipped his tea and thought for a moment. "She said she ran because she was ashamed for biting me, I need to find her and make her see that it's okay, I still love her."
Nodding her understanding, Marcie set down her cup. "Then I'm sure things will turn out for the best and she's lucky that she found a man like yourself."
"I certainly hope they do, do you have anyone in your life?" He asked, a brow raised.
She gave a shrug and looked down at her tea, a small smile curving up the corners of her lips. "Maybe, though I'm not sure if my feelings are returned."
Bastian smiled softly. "Well I wish you the best of luck in your trials of the heart."
Marcie gave a small laugh and took a sip of her tea, giving a small shake of her head. "Thank you. Knowing me, I'll need all the luck I can get."
"I'm sure everything will work out, and if it doesn't, then he didn't deserve you." He smiled and refilled his tea cup. "More tea?" He asked after stirring in more blood to his fresh cup.
"Please." She pushed her cup forward, tilting her head as she thought. "If only I figured that out sooner."
Bastian refilled her cup. "Sugar as well?" He took out the sugar jar and left it on the table.
"Thank you," she said as she took the liberty of spooning the sugar into her cup herself. Stirring it in absently, Marcie smiled at Bastian. "You know, perhaps when you feel lonely at night you could drop by at the newspaper and visit me. I'll be writing, of course, but a friendly face always boosts someone's moral."
"I'd be delighted to, thank you for the invitation." Bastian sipped his tea and then smiled at her, his teeth gleaming in the light. "And of course the same extends to you, if you ever need to come and talk, or need a different place to write, my shop is open."
Her smile widened. "That would be wonderful. And if I need to do last minute research, I have all these books to help," Marcie said brightly.
"That is true, and I have my personal store as well that you could use." Bastian said, sitting up in his chair.
"You have your own secret stash of books?" Marice leaned forward with interest, her green eyes bright in the darkness. "Are they the ones you gathered in your wanderings?"
"Yes they are, my rarest and most interesting ones." He smiled and clasped his hands. "I have some very rare and ancient texts as well as some very obscure ones."
"Perhaps I would have to hire you, since I can't read those kind of books," Marcie joked, raising her brows at him.
"Perhaps." Bastian chuckled. "A couple of them are in ancient languages, but I'll be here to interpret as needed."
"Of course." She smiled and gave a nod. Then she held up her finger and pointed at him, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "You might be careful though. I might be visiting you every night!"
Bastian smiled back. "Well I'll have to buy more tea then." He gestured to the almost empty pot on the table and chuckled.
"A small price to pay for spending company with a friend, I would think," Marcie laughed. "I could bring tea myself, if need be."
"Of course, definitely worth it, and I would be happy if you brought your favourite tea." Bastian smiled straightened his collar, but bumped it to the side accidentally showing his bite mark scars.
"Thank you very much," she replied. Marcie noticed the mark and unintentionally winced slightly as she imagined what it could be like to have the blood sucked from one's body. "I-I think my favorite is a strong, lemony tea. What about you?"
