You just suggest a book that you'd like to read in this thread and if someone wants to read it with you, they will comment. Then, you start a thread to discuss it. Sometimes other people will jump in on the discussion, but, like Colleen stated, you only need two people to get started.

Okay. Well let me know. If you want to reschedule it for sometime in January, I'm fine with that.

Hmmm. What if you read particularly fast, or slow...are there usually just the two?

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments Amelia wrote: "Hmmm. What if you read particularly fast, or slow...are there usually just the two?"

usually if it's a popular book or a widely read book there are atleast 3 people.

I read particularly slow, so I usally put in the request after I've gotten a 1/4 of the way thru the book

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

With me?

I know you are on #4, but I am starting the series this month. LOL

It is where you, and a buddy, read a book together, offer others to read it with you two, and start a discussion thread to talk about the book. Do you have any books you want to read with someone, and talk about it with?

@Tara . I'm into suspense/thrillers myself. What authors do you normally gravitate towards?

Hmm that's a different way to do it. Sounds interesting.

message 227: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Erin,
I like your idea! I would be interested except my genres don't match up with yours, except for an occasional mystery/thriller. :( Anyone interested in historical fiction, literary fiction, fiction, or non-fiction?

message 228: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Yes, it is a shame. I would love to find a small group of 2-3 people. It would be great if you started a group like that! :)

Cristal (Professional Book Procrastinator) | 4 comments I'm into YA, YA Fantasy, Thriller/Suspense, Romantic Suspense, Historical Fiction, Historical Fiction Romance, Mystery, Paranormal, New Adult, Adult.

message 230: by Karen (last edited Jun 01, 2016 11:22AM) (new)

Karen Hello!!

Any one up for one of the below to start around the 2nd or 3rd week of June?

The Choice (Romance)
A Passage to India (Classics)
All the Rage (YA)
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Fantasy, standalone but part of Game of Thrones universe)
Emmy & Oliver (YA)
The Golem and the Jinni (Fantasy)
A Monster Calls (YA Fantasy)
Woman of a Thousand Secrets (Historical Fiction)
The Apothecary's Daughter (Historical Fiction)

~~~~~~~
Also, regarding starting a small group with 2-3 people, I would be interested as well.
My favorite genres are Chick-lit, Classics, Contemporary, Fantasy, Fiction, Historical fiction, Romance, Science fiction, and Young-adult <----this is what Goodreads says and it's pretty accurate
I also like Horror and New Adult (as long as it actually has a plot and realistic characters lol)
Awesome!! What exact date do you want to start on? Is June 17 okay with you?
message 235: by Hayley (new)
Hayley Hello. I have never participated in a Buddy Read but think it would be fun. If anyone would like to partner up for mid-June or July please let me know; I'm open to any suggestions. My least favorite genres are Romance and Westerns but if someone is desperate to Buddy Read a book from that genre, I'm game.
Have a great weekend everyone!
message 236: by purplebookworm (new)
purplebookworm (puplebookworm) I don't really like those genres either! Any books you want to read? I've buddy read 1 before
message 237: by Hayley (new)
Hayley How about "The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories" by Ken Liu? I own the book.
message 238: by Hayley (new)
Hayley When do you want to begin the read? Or do you prefer a different book?
message 239: by Hayley (new)
Hayley @purplebookworm Not sure if I have to tag you in my replies as I rarely comment on boards or have conversations with people.
message 241: by Kristy (new)
Kristy (lilsis2307) | 43 comments I also like your idea, Erin. I would be interested in doing something like that. My preferred genres are: romantic suspense, mystery, thriller, paranormal mystery or romance, YA, NA, women's fiction... but I'll pretty much try anything once. I'm currently reading The Appeal by John Grisham and plan on starting The Big Blind by Nicolette Pierce this weekend. I've never done a buddy read before.
message 242: by Kristy (new)
Kristy | 16 comments Hi all.
I would like see if there are 2-3 people who want to read The Century Trilogy by Ken Follett?
Or maybe one of the following.
The Chemist by Stephanie Meyer
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
I would be interested in the long term tiny group idea as well that was brought up a while back.
My genres are fiction, YA, romance, horror, historical fiction, mystery/crime, thriller, Christian fiction, apocalyptic/dystopian. Really pretty much anything with a story line.
Thanks.
Hi Kristy,
Sounds like we read a lot of the same books. I've read all the ones on your list except for the Ken Follett trilogy. I loved Pillars of the Earth! It sounds great, but just coming off WOBBLE challenge I have so many others I've been putting off reading, that I'm not up for starting that long trilogy just now. If you don't get anyone else to read it with you, I was thinking maybe we could team up now with some other reads and then read the trilogy after the holidays.
Here are some I currently want to read:
The Condition by Jennifer Haigh
Furiously Happy A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson
Rosemary The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson
Redemption Road by John Hart
Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple
Moonwalking with Einstein The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer
The last one is non-fiction. If any of those appeal to you, let me know and maybe we can also get someone else on the thread to join us!
Awesome, Megan! Let's see how Kristy feels about reading it after the holidays.
message 246: by Kristy (new)
Kristy | 16 comments We can wait until after the holidays for the trilogy. :)
I would be interested in reading any of the books on your list as well. I'll let you guys decide which to read because they all sound good to me. :)
message 247: by Nanci (new)
Nanci | 1864 comments I'm currently reading Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything, so let's remove that from the list. Did either of you read, Where'd You Go, Bernadette? If so and you liked it, Today Will Be Different is another book by the same author. Megan, let us know what you want to read most on my list.
Does Furiously Happy work for you guys? I've really been meaning to read that, but haven't gotten around to it yet and it seems great!
message 249: by Kristy (new)
Kristy | 16 comments I have not had the chance to read Where'd You Go, Bernadette. Did you enjoy it? It's on my TBR list.
Today Will Be Different and Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things are both fine with me. They both sound good.
message 250: by Nanci (new)
Nanci | 1864 comments OK Kristy and Megan, let's read Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things. I'm so glad we've found a book to read together! Do you need time to get it? I have it now, so I can start whenever you two are ready. Have either one of you done a Buddy Read before? I've been doing some research and it looks like we decide on a date to start and then we communicate on our thread as to how we want to discuss it. For instance we could spend a few days reading and when everyone is at 20% discuss, or discuss chapter by chapter, or however we want. Looks like one of us needs to set up the thread in the Buddy Reads folder. I can do that after we decide on the date to start, unless one of you has done it before and wants to set it up. So to start let me know the date you want to start. Sound good?
