Hello. I am looking for recommendations for authors from UAE who have a book available in English. The subject doesn't really matter to me--I just want to read something by a person from UAE. Thanks!

Marijcke Jongbloed is a long-standing UAE author, having penned many wildlife books of the plants and animals of the UAE:http://www.goodreads.com/search?query...
But of particular interest is her recent book Morning Comes and Also the Night, written for her parents who were interned in a Japanese concentration camp in Indonesia during WWII. She came across letters they had smuggled to each other at the time that she was born - also in the camp.
It has 4 and 5 star ratings on Amazon:

Also by Marijcke is Fat Legs Don't Matter, the story of her life as a young doctor in UAE in the 80s. She then became involved with the breeding and rescuing the native wildlife and her profession took a detour into the Animal Breeding Centre in Sharaj, which she established.Unfortunately this book is having production problems but hopefully copies will be available soon.

Hii :)I also recommend reading this book "The Sand Fish: A Novel from Dubai by Maha Gargash"
Enjoy reading ~
It's slightly off track, but I just read a book based in Bahrain - The Meeting Point by Lucy Caldwell.
Osho wrote: "Hello. I am looking for recommendations for authors from UAE who have a book available in English. The subject doesn't really matter to me--I just want to read something by a person from UAE. Thanks! "Hidden Tears by Local author Mohammed Al Neaimi (book of Poetry)
How about Liz Fenwick's The Cornish House - or Jack Patel's Dubai Dreams by P.G Bhaskar - or Alexander McNabb's Olives - or Fat Legs Don't Matter by Marijcke Jongbloed (she left nearly 10 yrs ago but the book is about her life in Duabi) - or Nest of Vipers (and others by Linda Davies. Is that enough??? (Also The Sand Fish, mentioned above)
Another novel you could read is - URMA, by an Indian author based in Dubai. It's a great women fiction novel about an Iranain women's pursuit of her lost life. It's with a back drop of Iranain revolution. Available at many bookshops - I picked it up from Booksplus, Dubai Festival City where it was under the best seller shelf.
Interesting Tabrez, I hadn't heard of this one.Do you know the author, or have contact with her?
Just wondering about making it a book group choice and inviting the author.....
While browsing, just saw these interesting comments. @DubaiReader - I am Deeba Salim Irfan, author of 'Urma', that has been mentioned here. I reside in Dubai. You can contact me - deebairfan@me.com 'Urma' is available at Kinokuniya (Dubai Mall), Books Plus (Dubai Festival City - Most recommended shelf), Jashanmal Stores (http://jashanmalbooks.com) and Hyper Panda (Top 10 Shelf)!Look forward!
There's Ajwan by Nora AlNoman, it's currently only available in Arabic but I hear an English version is in the works
Hi Osho and everyone,I am a British mystery and humour writer currently working in Dubai. Modesty forbids I recommend any of my books, but am happy to connect with readers and writers based in the UAE to talk about books, life, the universe and camels.
Connect with me on Twitter and let's talk!

Desperate in Dubai and Galagolia... I haven't read them yet, but I am planning to. I've heard lots of positive comments about those two that convinced me.
I've wanted to read some books by UAE authors as well. Been living here for years, might as well take in the culture and learn more about UAE. :)
Hey Everyone!!!! Do visit the Muscat International Book Fair, stand number IH23. There is a company, Book Falcons that is offering a variety of amazzziinggg books!! Do not miss it !! :D
based in Dubai, though I am not a UAE national.Memories with Maya is a bitter-sweet romance grounded in technology and it's effect on personal relationships.
Settings in the novel are an intentional hybrid of Singapore/Dubai and Mumbai.
**caution**
The book might not be to everyone's taste as it explores subjects on Transhumanism, and the protag's shaky religious beliefs.
However, it is fiction and grounded in hard-science.
MwM made it's debut last week on kindle so get it at the promo price.
Kind Regards.
