Sofia (sofiakennedy) | 65 comments =D love the quote. Where'd the idea of sparkly vampires come from anyway? Sunlight kills them, not makes them into sparkly vampires which is "supposed" to be breathtaking, but in my opinion, makes them a really girly. What happened to the vampire w/ fangs and drinks HUMAN blood and are evil??? All the authors that write about vampires make them all polite and stuff. It's stupid. And I read an article where people are blaming this nice vampire stuff on Buffy!!! They think that the whole Angel helping people thing and trying to be good is the start to this vampire stuff. The vampires in Buffy ARE scary, and Angelus is REALLY scary. Angel is even terrifying sometimes. I can't see why people can blame Joss Whedon for all of those terrible vampires in those terrible books. =(

Twilight continues to grow in popularity, more so with each release. I still can't understand why.

Admittedly, I've never watched one of the movies. The trailers, alone, are enough to prevent me from doing so. The acting seems incredibly bad. But what can I expect? The books themselves are lightweight. I think Stephen King once said Meyer can't write worth a darn. (Of course, he was contrasting her with Rowling, who's a fantastic writer. So anyone would pale by that comparison.)

What's the opinion of the latest Twilight movie? Anyone see it?

message 57: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (sofiakennedy) | 65 comments Yeah, and it was hilarious!! Like not purposely funny, just so awful it was funny =D Most of the crowd I was w/ in the movie theatre were snorting throughout half the movie. The script was terrible, and I found out a few weeks ago that the scriptwriter was a fan of Buffy and tried to become a writer for it, and was turned down. I can see why... It was just really a bad movie. And I SO think Stephanie Meyer watched Buffy. In an interview she said she was a huge Joss Whedon fan, but has never seen Buffy. That is just NOT possible!!!!! You can't be a Joss Whedon fan w/o seeing Buffy. And she was like "I'm going to watch Buffy back-to-back after I finish the series straightaway" =P

And I'm rewatching Buffy (4th season) and Riley said straight out, "Would if I'm the bad guy" which as most people know is what Edward repeatedly says. I know it's a little thing, but it cracked me up anyway. At least it was Riley saying it =D

For a hilarious parody of the corny-ness and awful writing of the Twilight series, check out "Emily and the Really Sexy Vampyre," written by Storm (half of the musical comedy duo, Paul and Storm):

This a really caustic review of the movie, a 45-min rant about the badness of it.

Duh! No contest!

I haven't read the Twilight series yet even though I have all four books, so... maybe it's unfair of me to dismiss 'em. I am already biased against them, but, who knows... maybe I'll enjoy them! I will already have Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson in mind when reading the roles of Bella and Edward and I happen to think they are both terrible actors. Yes, I've seen them in other roles, Kristen especially. She has the same mannerisms and facial expressions in everything she's been in that I've seen.

OK! Now I'll say something nice... they are perdy!

Keiko Ivinson (keikoivinson) | 15 comments Twilight is aweful! It's ok for a book, buy Buffy is just so amazing! Like the ending for twilight was soo bad, and the last episode of buffy was good ! It wasn't jut good
it was amazing! Soo deffinetley Buffy is better, the charactors are better and the plot is AMAZING! Nothing beats Buffy

message 62: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilycoal) | 2 comments I read the Twilight books before the fad. From book one though I absolutely hated Bella. She has no personality and no purpose other than being in love with Edward. No hobbies, no talents. Booooorrrrrring, snore. In the movies they never, ever look happy. If I was that miserable with someone all the time I sure wouldn't want to keep dating him. At least Buffy and Angel were happy some of the time and then had a real reason to be all miserable because of the curse. Then Joss had the sense to give Angel his own show so he'd get a life. And come on Edward and his "brothers and sisters" have gone to high school a million times. Like who would do that if you could live forever?! Only morons that's who! The only clever thing I thought was that twilight vampires sparkle in the sun which is why they have to keep out of it. I just don't think 10 year olds should be reading Twilight and getting the idea that girls should be empty headed and only purpose in life is to be in love with a man. Ick.

Yeah. You noticed that, too, eh?

I've never seen the Twilight movies. I hope to God I never do. The trailers, alone, are enough to creep me out. The acting is TERRIBLE, and the dialogue isn't much better.

I read part of one of the Twilight books once. I just walked into a Barnes & Noble, picked it up, and sat down at a table with it. I got about half-way through and thought, "I've seen all of this before. There's nothing new here -- other than really abysmal writing."

Bill and I saw a preview for New Moon in the theater, and we couldn't stop snorting throughout the 90-second trailer! It was the worst, most heavy-handed dialogue I have ever heard, delivered amateurishly by terrible actors. Not that even a good actor could do anything with a script that bad. If the trailer was that painful, I can't imagine how hideous the movie will be.

Anastacia (ana3) | 11 comments in my opionon i fell that even though i my self am a twilight fan i would have to say that buffy the vampire slayer is better because there is more that a child can relate to like how buffy is balencing alot. so i would say buffy the vampire slayer is far better than twilight( no ofence to the twi-hards)

message 66: by Keiko (new)

Keiko Ivinson (keikoivinson) | 15 comments i completely agree that Meyer took things from all the other vampire, and fantasy books. I see things from harry potter, buffy, and dracula! its just unimaginative and boring.

message 68: by Mary (new)

Mary (mary-elizabeth) | 2 comments I really dont know.. I mean I've read all the Twilight books, thought they were good, seen all the movies (so far)... but at the same time I've see every single episode of Buffy AND Angel. I don't know maybe I spend to much time with Vampires hahahahahaha. Stephanie Meyer didnt ruin vampires she simply created her own veiw of vampires. Not everyone's vision of a vampire tale is going to be the same. Here's an exsample: look at the story of Interview with a Vampire and compare the main myths of the and the main myths in buffy. In Buffy they dont sleep in coffins, there faces get all ugly and what not when they feed, they cant stand holy water or crosses. In Interview With A Vampire has none of this happens. I like both and theres really not a compittion for me.

message 69: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) Okay, so I've now seen all three Twilight movies to date and have also finally read all four books. The first two books were okay, readable, but much too much teenage angst for me, bland. The second book irritated me to no end, as did the movie. Bella is a very whiny, irritating character in both the first two books and films. In that respect, I think Kristen Stewart played her perfectly! I liked the third and fourth books, however. I was surprised. The third movie was quite entertaining, actually. No, I'm not a Twihard, far from it. I totally understand the teen appeal. It's the Twihards in their thirties that boggle my mind. I won't dis Stephanie Meyer for putting her own spin on the ole vampire mythos, even if she did borrow from here and there. Very few authors are completely original.

That said, I was pissed about an almost verbatim lifting of a line from Buffy.

Buffy rules! No contest!

message 71: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (bookworm12186) I like the whole sparkly, white thing look of the Cullens. But seriously vampires werent "in" until Twilight now its a fad. Buffy is it, it is the 90s, it show. Sure its a bit corny now, but thats why we love it.I dont know they are different. I love the character of Alice....on Twilight...but give me Buffy any day over top. Plus im sorry but i think only Twilight #1 was good..and I didnt like Kirsten Stewart as Bella, shes monotone.

message 72: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) I'm sorry, but that is bologna! Vampires were "in" way before Stephanie Meyer!

The character of Bella is monotone IMO, which is why I believe Kristen Stewart played her well. I had always thought she was a terrible actress until I saw The Runaways, which was actually pretty good. Still, she needs to quit it with all her personal mannerisms in everything she plays.

Don't be sorry that you thought the 1st Twilight was good. We are all entitled to our own opinions ^_^

the book was good..movie ok. Vamps were in but now its like crazy for werewolves and vamps. it wasnt as stereotypical sparkly haha.

i miss the days of buffy.

message 74: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) It's not just vamps and werewolves, but zombies too. I personally think it's the recent YA craze in general. When I was a teen there was no such genre. Even the classics, like Jane Eyre and books by Jane Austin, are being revamped -pardon the pun- for a teen audience, being released in trade paperback with black covers and red roses and such. Have you seen 'em? I think it's good, as it's getting more teens to read, but it's a bit ridiculous too, KWIM?

As for missing Buffy, I've been rewatching the old episodes via Netflix. I have 'em all on DVD, but at least once a year I like to watch them all again. It was such an awesome show!

I love the pun! lol. I think your right. It makes it not so desirable anymore , am i correct? Its like converse, i wore them and got made fun of when I was like 11 and now they are everywhere haha. Same thing, its a fad itll pass, and us true lovers of sya Buffy will still remain.

message 76: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (miranda_fall) I guess I'm the main demographic Twilight is aimed at... I did enjoy the books (although the movies are just cheesy) but Buffy/Angel are way cooler. They're just better written, better acted, better cast with better plots. Basically just better. The "vegetarian" vampires of Twilight are too fluffy. But the Twilight books seem to have this weird effect that when I'm reading them I think they're great and I get really into the story but once I finish I look back and realize how dumb they are... I suppose you could say we have a love/hate relationship :)

message 81: by Rikki (new)

Rikki Chadwick Finally someone says something against these books ... I know people who are so enamored with this book that began even in the face of the characters from it ... They all follow on facebook about them, they do not sleep at night not to be missed by some new information, and cried in days while Robert and Kristin are not together ... o.O
I do not like the books and movies of this type ... And I do not want to be retracted as a book in itself to become dependent on it ....
