Just bought The Witching Elm because a friend described it to me as, "historical fiction that left me feeling all pumpkin spice."

The Golem and the Jinni, Peace and War and A Brief History of Seven Killings, all basically brand new from the charity shops, for £4.50 in total.

Nice bargain

Margo I bought The Passage on audible yesterday. I've been indecisive on this one for ages as I've seen very mixes reviews but I finally decided to go for it after seeing an author interview.

Oh, Art sounds interesting! Especially right now as I am doing a Critical Reviewing writing class and we are deep in discussion trying to define what separates art from craft.

It's fun so far Jessica, even though there's also serious ideas underneath. I bet it's hilarious on stage - I'd love to see a performance of it someday!

Totally by coincidence, I just finished another play with a lot of similar questioning of what makes art. Red by John Logan, a play about the artist Mark Rothko. A much darker play but also good.

Both are very short, quick reads, about 50 pages each. Given that you're thinking over that topic of art/craft, I'd highly recommend both of them if you can find free copies at the library! A entertaining way to mull over the topic rather than reading a bunch of dry theory! :)

Milou | 105 comments In the town I am on holiday in now they have a shop called Bargain Books, and it's very dangerous... On my previous holiday I bought too many books to fit in my suitcase. So far I have done well though. In the week I've been here I only picked up:
The Mechanical for around €4,50
and The Death Collector for just under €3,00

They also have The Blinding Knife for €4,00, but I left it for now seeing as I haven't read/don't own the first book... I'll probably give in next week though

Milou I really enjoyed The Mechanical and it's follow up. Enough so that I read them back to back and am eagerly awaiting the final book in the trilogy. Also am about a third of the way through The Black Prism (first book before The Blinding Knife I believe and it is fantastic so far. Will likely move directly onto book 2 if it stays as good as it's been so far. Really interesting world and magic system.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments There's an old Hastings Records and Books (store) near me that is going out of business so I picked up Cibola Burn, Fuzzy Nation, and Beacon 23: The Complete Novel for 60-90% discounts.

I really wish there were better book stores like that near me. I basically have Chapters and a few used book stores but they have Terribke sci fi fantasy sections. To better describ this, in one of them about 40% of the sci fi section is old L. Ron Hubbard books.

Oh this is totally creepy. I have never seen this book before today, but I was browsing a charity shop today and picked it up and considered buying it. I put it down again - it is beautiful though and is what drew me to it!

I know, right? When Amazon has good deals its just so hard to resist!

I've picked up a number of ebooks lately, often a result of sales:
Rebel of the Sands
A Court of Thorns and Roses
A Court of Mist and Fury
The Paper Magician
Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions
A Gathering of Shadows
The Dragonbone Chair
The Winter's Tale

I met the author of The Paper Magician not too long ago. I guess she's a sister-in-law or something of one of my college roommates.

The First Law series is so fantastic. If you enjoy the trilogy be sure to check out the three stand alone's that follow and are set in the same series. the final standalone Red Country was my favourite of the six books.

I recently purchased:
The Blood Mirror
Wrath
and
The Art of the Mass Effect Universe

The Art of Mass Effect is fantastic. Getting so see concept art for all the species and characters was my favourite part to see how different things could have been.

Yes, Riordan is really good at writing sarcastic kids. Some writers try to do sarcastic characters but they just come off as bratty.

Speaking of local authors, I have not been able to corner Brandon Sanderson yet as he is NEVER HOME.

Right. My library is selling a bag of books (you fill a grocery bag with what you want) for a dollar, but there's nothing there I really want.
